Just WOW I can't even begin to describe the flavors for this food. Oxtail is a MUST! Pictured is a small plate with jerk chicken wings, cabbage and rice and peas with oxtail gravy on top. I saw they had this lunch special and for ~$8, it was a no-brainer. With the Lunch Special, you can get any of their chicken dishes - I went with jerk chicken. Unfortunately, you can only get white rice. I was able to get it with some oxtail gravy which helped a lot! The oxtail gravy was sweet, savory, and well-seasoned. It soaked into the rice and added so much flavor to each bite along with the jerk chicken. The jerk chicken was well-seasoned, mostly moist, and very tender. The chicken skin had all of that jerk seasoning on it; insanely good! The fried plantains were also fresh and nicely made. All in all, it was super filling and at a great price! read more

We were looking for some good Jamaican food and had a feeling that Violet's would be the right place! When we arrived, there were a few other customers in the store but the line moved along pretty quickly. We each got our meals within a few minutes, one jerk chicken and one curry chicken, both served over rice & peas with cabbage on the side. We ordered smalls but still received very generous portions. I didn't expect to finish my whole plate, but the curry chicken was amazing, especially with their pepper sauce. The rice was great with the gravy on top. The cabbage was perfectly cooked. The sorrel was very nice and we also grabbed some patties to go. The service was also very friendly! As we sat and ate we saw a lot of customers coming in and out, it's def a popular option in the area, and the kitchen kept bringing out more and more food so that they didn't run out of anything. read more

Place was clean and service was decent. Really had a craving for some Jamaican food and this place popped up on Yelp. I had stew chicken & rice and peas, rice and peas had parboil rice , which I dislike but it was cooked really well, flavorful but not salty, the stew chicken in my opinion was mediocre & cabbage was meh. Stopped in randomly for some lunch. The place was not packed so I able to get food to go quickly. Upon entering the staff was friendly and greeted me. There were a few places to sit however the space is more of a takeout place. The menu wasn't obviously present but the food was laid out to be seen by patrons. I opted for the curry chicken with rice and peas. I liked that they had 3 different kinds of rice to choose from. I will have to say that I was not a huge fan of the curry chicken. The sauce was a little thinner than I'm used to and lacked flavor. Also as I started to eat I noticed that some pieces of the chicken were not completely cooked all the way through. I ended up cooking it the rest of the way in a pan at home. The rice was good and so were the plantains and cabbage. Violets Jamaican Restaurant...I think it's the best I've had here in JC since living here and gives me Brooklyn Atlantic Avenue West Indian Day Parade family feelings!!! The Pattie's are what I'm going to dare say better than Tastee's in Jamaica and if you know then you know that's a big up to this chef at Violet's!! This is as close to the Caribbean as JC is gonna get!! And there's a lot of us here but this restaurant is my 1 right now next to Harry's Daughter then the commercial of Golden Crust. Here's the chicken, spinach and lastly beef patty...the flakiness on these patties is lighter than Tastee's and dare I say BETTER!!! Golden Crust can't hold any candle next to Violet's!!! Twice I've ordered from this restaurant and twice I said it is the best Jamaican food I have had. The Curried Goat exploded with flavor in the mouth, rice and peas, vegetables and sweet plantain is spot on as well. Violet is the sweetest lady in the world. I've actually been coming here for a bit. This is the only place in the entire world where I eat cabbage. I will not eat cabbage anywhere else I went there tonight and bought a variety of their juices - sorrel ginger, pineapple ginger, reggae medley and more. Violet's is great, friendly service and I love to support local businesses. If you want fish, order in advance as made to order and so worth it! First thing I loved was how clean the place looked and the warm family feeling I felt. The food was LL looking and smelling good in the buffet style setting that they serve us from. Mrs Violet and Lori were amazing to say the least and treated us with the utmost respect that all customers deserve. I drove all the way from Verona NJ and trust you me I'm coming back.. I'm proud of this business it represents us people of color well, but the restaurant it classy enough to cater to all ethnic group. Disrespectful and Unprofessional Behavior I recently visited this restaurant and had an incredibly disappointing experience. The owner's behavior was completely unprofessional and disrespectful. During my visit, I kindly let the customer behind me go ahead of me in line because I wanted the kind lady that always makes me feel welcome when I visit, to take my order. This seemed to upset the guy who I presume was the owner, who then proceeded to confront me in front of everyone present, yelling "aint nobody got time for that" that either he would make my order or I would be left without anyone to serve me. As the other customers laughed..... This not only made me feel embarrassed but also highly disrespected. It's disgusting to see such a lack of customer service and respect from the owner of a restaurant... As someone who values good service, a welcoming atmosphere, and patronizing the very Few black businesses we have in this city, It Saddens me to say that this experience has reinforced many of the steroetypes I work so hard to defend against.... when it comes to visiting black establishments..
