Thank you Campo Bello for satisfying my craving for Spanish food! I ordered the beef stew and a side of plantains...then added a side of yellow rice at the end. The beef was very tender and flavorful. The plantains were crispy on the outside and it just melts in your mouth. Oh my goodness, the food exceeded my expectations and it was worth the $9.45. I wish I had room for the tres leche cake, that looked really good too ( AND IT WAS ONLY $3/slice). There are three parts to the restaurant: catering, take out and sit down. The service was quick and the waitresses were all pretty nice. It was spacious, but it was sorta weird how the restaurant was divided... The owner here is very nice its directly across from Stapleton projects an there's a bus stop right in front so you may catch a crowd in front but they really don't bother just mind your business lol nice decent parking on the rear. The food is is great! They have a section for take-out and for eating in. They also have a section for catering parties. If you're eating in do not go starving because the wait is long. We waited yesterday for our food at least 45 minutes. As courtesy they should (like other restaurants do) serve some warm bread with butter to munch on as you wait. The portions are big!! I guess from all the waiting they figure you're hungry. The staff is very friendly and very attentive. Spanish music is playing all the time but not loud that you cannot speak. I am Spanish so I know about Spanish food and you won't be disappointed. The only set back is that the restaurant is in a not too great neighborhood. I've never encountered any problems. When walking in to the restaurant there is a sign saying seat your self, which is fine by me until 20 minutes past by and no one even brought me a menu. The sweet plantains and the beans came out ICE COLD and when we brought this to the waitress attention she said she could microwave them.... WFT? The beef stew was vinegarie, and bland. The meat was tough, and just gross. The only bright side was that it wasn't salty. My fiance steack, which was ordered well done, came out extremely bloody and also wasn't seasoned. I ended up not eating my food and would never come back here again. In all fairness I lived in Washington hights for 3 years and I truly love good Spanish food, so I set the bar pretty high, but I wouldn't recommend this place to anyone. read more

I eat here a lot... I've seen a lot of complaints about the service but basically you order your food at the counter and they bring it to you. Service is much better here than he majority of NY establishments. I've tried everything from los tres golpes to pernil to oxtail to the salted codfish salad and it's all delicious. The food was warm at best. Wasn't hot as I desired it to be. The waitress was kind. She showed me what side I wanted with my food in regards to the meat selection. It's was a quiet environment but the football game was on. They have a great selection of food for a reasonable price range. The cashier was basically trying to tip herself by taking $2. The food here is not the issue. While its not great it is good and worth it if in the area. However good luck if you dont speak Spanish. Living and working in the area I have gone there multiple times and everytime I leave I say never again. They ignore you while serving all the people who speak Spanish, then give you the stink face while serving you speaking Spanish to their co-workers obviously about you. Then they give you a plate half the size (and full of all the fatty pieces) that they just gave the guy that spoke Spanish when you ordered the same thing. But the best part is hearing them say Cabrone(dont speak Spanish but know enough that that word is an insult) under their breathe when you dont leave them a tip. excellent Spanish food served cafeteria style almost- if you're eating in you just point to what you want, have a seat, then they bring it to you on a cart. friendly staff, my only thing is the location- its not in the nicest part of staten island, i always wonder if my cars gonna have all 4 windows intact when i return to it. also, i went for dinner once and its def not as fresh and delicious than lunch time. i'm pretty sure it just sits out on the heating table all day. definitely recommend lunch though! read more
