They are open!!! They're back and better than ever! The new restaurant is beautiful. It's right across the street from the old location. It's larger, open, and bright with even more seating. The food is amazing as always! I feel there are even more selections. The ribs are to die for! And don't forget to ask for the green hot sauce. Disclaimer..no pictures. Feeding a house of hungry teenagers doesn't allow for pictures prior to eating! I ordered from here to get food for the group home that I help manage. This was the choice of eats by the kids. After looking at the menu we decided on two family meals; baked chicken and steak with onions. The family meals came with salad, rice, beans, plantains, and a 2-liter bottle of soda. Chicken was yummy and flavorful. Since we ordered two family meals, we got one white rice and one Spanish rice. Both delish. We also got a side of avocado. Avocado was fresh and vibrant in color. Although they have a "hot bar" we still waited for our order as it was made fresh. If you're looking for good Dominican food in LI, then you've come to the right spot! My wife and I were in LI to run some errands and we found Dominican Restaurant 5 on Yelp. OK, so the name is not exactly that creative, but the food here is as legit as it gets if you want to satisfy your Dominican food cravings. We dropped in at about 1:30pm and there were only a few folks inside with a few customers going in and out every few minutes. The restaurant was pretty small and there was a buffet-style counter to order from on the right and some booth seats to the left of the entrance. The aroma of the food absolutely overwhelmed our nasal passages and because we were starving we wanted EVERYTHING behind the counter! The process of ordering was very simple. First, we picked our carb (white rice, white rice and peas or yellow rice and peas). Next, the reason why you're here -- the meat! And then finally, the server fills up the rest of your plate (or box for take-out) with a small salad. The missus and I ended up ordering the white rice and kidney beans with beef stew and the white rice and black beans with pernil. Now you might ask why did we order white rice? Simple .... because you cannot add beans to your rice if you decide to order one of the other types of rice. So our verdict? First, the serving sizes of the dishes were incredible. Since we took the orders to go, we had boxes overflowing with rice and meats. The amount of food served was so large that we were able to eat some of it for lunch and still have a full dinner in the evening --- I kid you not. Oh, and did I mention that each plate came with 3 sweet plantains as well? Yes sir! Second, the rice and beans were excellent and the meats were good. The beef stew could have been a bit more tender and, as expected, the pernil was a bit dry, but as juicy as can be considering it was pernil. Also, at first, the server didn't give me a piece of skin or pork drippings, so I actually had to ask her to throw some in my dish. To sum it up, we could not have asked for more in terms of getting our bang for our buck. It came out to approximately $8.50 per plate, but since we were able to spread it out over 2 meals, it really came out to $4.25 a meal! Seriously?! And the food was right on point too with the flavors, quality and authenticity. We'll definitely be keeping Dominican Restaurant 5 in the back of our heads whenever traveling thru this part of LI. read more

Amazing food that's ready to eat! It's super small with about two tables to sit down so better to pick up food and go home. This is authentic home cooked Dominican food. The pernil, chicharon, rice and beans, oxtail, chicken with peppers is delicious and not overly salty like some places. read more

Great place for some quick and delicious take outs. I'm quite amazed at all the different types of food the neighborhood has to offer and Dominican Restaurant is an especially well welcomed addition. I had chances to try out Caribbean/West Indies food before and was quite happy that they offer quite a lot of different stew and meat options here. We got two box specials to go for dinner. The food are all out in display in a cafeteria style and the servers were very friendly and accommodating. Quite thoughtful of them to wrap up the boxes to avoid spilling since a lot of the food would be liquids. Oxtail Stew combo plate (~$10) - A very good representation of the oxtail dish, quite flavorful and the meat is very tender. Certainly one of the best ones I've had here in the NY vicinity. I wish they could be more generous with the portion though especially since its bit more expensive. But I understand typically oxtails are bit more expensive than other meats. Highly recommended if you've tried it before or if looking for some delicious food adventures :) Roast Pork combo plate(~$8) - In contrast of the oxtail the portion of the meat was quite generous. Although some part of the meat was tougher than I liked they're still quite tender around the edges. A bit lack of flavor compare to the other stewed meat I'm sure but I think paired with the rice or plantains this is a nice choice. They both come with side of rice, couple plantains and salad. There's also a cup of beans on the side as well. The Spanish rice with red beans were done especially well. Its a great place for a quick takeout since there's no wait for the food. Although they have seating areas from what we saw its mostly a takeout place. At first I thought the restaurant is on side of Deer Park Ave but it wasn't when I drove closer until I realized there's a small sized parking lot here so you most likely would be able to avoid street parking. Very happy to see there's so much variety of food here in DP and looking forward to return visits here for more delicious food here. read more

Yip, that was what I said but it is true. The Dominican dishes served here is very good. BTW this is #5 of 6 of this chain of restaurants. I originally wanted the oxtail but they were out so I setting for the spare ribs which came BBQ or baked. I setting for the Baked ribs lunch special ($9.95)- falling-off-the-bone deliciousness. The ribs looked dry but they were tasty & juicy inside. The sauce they poured on top goes great with the rice and beans (probably the drippings from baking the ribs). Dominican 4 in Farmingdale was my go to delivery spot when I worked in the area. Being that I live closer to this location, I tried it out. The restaurant shares a parking lot with Crazy Billy's along with a few other small businesses, so there is adequate parking, which is nice. There's an enclosed patio area in the front of the business that would be nice in the nicer weather. The restaurant isn't very big, and there aren't very many tables so it may get busy during peak hours. I had my usual steak sandwich, which comes with fries. The sandwich consists of sliced steak, lettuce, tomatoes & mayo. The steak was seasoned well and the fries were crisp and fresh. I was happy with my meal, no different than the other location. I also had a mango..nectar? I'm not sure what the exact name is but it's a mango drink that is DELICIOUS A few pointers I will give: it's better to order in advance if you are in a rush..sometimes the food can take a while. Another thing is I am grateful I speak Spanish because there can be quite the language barrier. I actually had to interrupt and translate for a friend so his order would be correct. This restaurant is a hidden gem and now my favorite take out place . The portions are very generous and most importantly the food is delicious and authentic Dominican style food . The sancocho here is incredible and one of my favorite dishes ! The workers are very kind and accommodating to customers as well . I took off one star due to my orders missing a side or being mixed up when I order ahead over the phone .
