Menu clearly shows cash and charge prices. If you don't want the rice and beans that come with lunch and want tostones (green) instead there is an upcharge which the waiter did not advise us about this. We're spoiled by the many Dominican restaurantsthat we visited in NYC like El Gran Castillo which has a larger menu and offers bread and more choices (rice & beans or salad & plantains) for the same price. We ordered pollo à la plancha with onions on top! I had it with white rice, black beans, and a side of avocado! My friend ordered the Mofongo with pork! The mofongo was really tasty! One of my favorite spot to go to for lunch. The usually have a lunch special that me and my kids love to have. Churrasco serve with rice and beans and 2 plantains. The steak was bland, the lobster was rubber and the "crispy shrimp" and calamari were soggy and rubbery. Very angry about the mistake and wait and also very disappointed with the food texture and flavor. The order came out to just over 300.00. We will Never order from there ever again. Horrible ! Last night, I went to Casa del Campo, a Dominican restaurant and lounge, with family and friends to celebrate both me and my aunt's respective birthdays. It was a ten-minute ride from where I live. It's located within a small commercial plaza, on Deer Park Avenue. At first, went I entered, the bar is in a right-in-your face spot, and adjacent to it, is a seating area. We got there at 7:30 pm, and the establishment was packed. The hostess told us to wait while the table was being prepared. Ten minutes later, we were seated in the dining room. At first, the ambiance and vibe is very bar-lounge like, music is blasting, and bursting with laughter from the drinking patrons at the bar area. The decor itself, left a lot to be desired. The bathroom decor was also similar. It threw me off that the toilets, in the restroom were black, too. Definitely, they need to clean it more often, especially when they are busy with lots of customers. In the main area, the ceiling was matte painted in black, the walls had white trim, along with what appeared to be a custom made either paint; but it also looked like wallpaper with some Dominican symbols, that was monochromatic in color. The chairs and tables were simple, along the wall, was a long, cream-colored lounge that went across the entire wall of the place. The lighting was dimmed a bit low. Despite all that, our server was an outstanding one! Very funny guy, with a great sense of humor. Throughout the evening, our needs were met to perfection. The appetizers were brought to our table. Fried calamari, stuffed clams and fried, breaded shrimp. The one that stood out the most, was the shrimp; although I wished it had more seasoning. The calamari was too chewy. Everyone had drinks. My mom didn't like her piña colada. I had a mojito; that would've been better if it had more mint. But I must say, that the main dishes themselves, were very good, and very generous with big portions! Everyone ordered fish and seafood. I ordered Linguini del Campo, with seafood. The platter is huge! It was hot, and delicious! It came with a couple of lemon wedges to squeeze on. I must say, it's the best seafood dish I've been eaten, so far. Overall, I would come back again, to dine, during the week, when it's more quiet and much more relaxed. This place is guaranteed to be packed on weekends. read more

I knew this place had to be god when we got there at about 9pm and there was still a half hour wait for the table! Waiting wasn't an issue as there is a bar area and they have music playing that makes you want to get up and dance. The restaurant had a large party that night so the host helped with drinks and came to periodically check in on us which was appreciated. The waitress took our order and that went well. I had the ropa vieja with maduros, someone else had the red snapper with garlic sauce, and the last a fried red snapper. The meals were served with a salad (kinda wet), fish soup(okay), and a chicken soup (good). It took a while for the entrees to come out, but that was understandable given that they had a large party and it wasn't an unbearable wait for the food. The ropa vieja was delicious! The fish in garlic sauce was also fantastic. The fried fish was meh. It was flaky, but dry inside instead of juicy as fried fish should be. The staff was understanding and took it off the bill. This was my first time here, on the recommendation of a friend that lives nearby and visits frequently. I found the service to be excellent, sitting at the bar and served by Lisa. I found the food to be marginal and quite bready, but being one that watches what I eat, I may be partial. Even so, the beef empanada was nicely seasoned. I didn't try the chicken although my girlfriend said the consistency was like chicken patte, flavor was decent. The ambiance was good, although there weren't many patrons on a Saturday at 3-5. When I arrived I spoke to a regular who recommended the roast chicken (raved about it!) and the pork chops. I imagine our service experience would be different if it were very busy and we didn't have the waitress to ourselves. But that's not unusual. I hear it gets crowded on Friday and Saturday nights. The decor was bland and nothing to write home about. They could definitely do much better. There were two televisions at the bar, I don't recall any others. While I wasn't blown away by the establishment, i thought that my service experience (Go Lisa!) went a long way, thus 4 stars. read more
