The melted cheese was cold. Well, it was all cold. I asked for some barbecue sauce because I did not see any on the plate. The sauce tasted like ketchup. My friend agreed. We pushed our plates aside. When the server, Morgan, came to our table to ask if we wanted dessert, we ordered the pecan pie alamode. It was wonderful. We were very surprised that she did not ask how our meals were. My friend and I agreed that we would tell Morgan our thoughts of the meal when she asks, "How was everything?". But she did not ask. Surprisingly, she didn't even say that she hoped we enjoyed everything. We were each charged 75 cents each for the tiny pods of sauce. Each of our tickets were $24. Yes we could have and most likely should have, shared our distaste for the taste and quality of our meals. Maybe Morgan doesn't like the food either. LOL! I hope this information is helpful.

She was very attentive and the food was great. Definitely try the white sauce because it was amazing! I love mom and pop types of restaurants and this one was not a disappointment. The atmosphere was great and we were not rushed to leave. Highly recommended.

We placed a to go order, over the phone. (It was difficult to even get them on the phone to begin…read morewith ) It took 4 calls, before the phone was even answered. When I arrived to get the food, *of course* I was prompted to tip for take-out. & YES, I did (even though you don't really deserve an $8 tip for *messing up on BAGGING an order). But, that's another rant for another time. 5 minutes down the road, we found we were missing an item on this $50+ order. AGAIN, We both called multiple times each, before the phone was answered. I explained we were *coming back*, because we were missing an order of onion rings. She said 'Okay, just bring the bag & receipt back in with you.' I get there, the original gal who helped me, would not speak to me or look at me. This really irks me because I gave this gal $8 tip for her to not even FIX her OWN mess--up. A different gal helped me. Proceeded to wait 15+ minutes for them to get the onion rings. Meanwhile, a couple standing at the counter begins looking thru OUR bag thinking it may be there to go order. Get the onion rings, go home, all our food is cold. Husband said the onion rings were not worth that ordeal. I am really bummed about this experience because I like to support LOCAL, and I LOVE the fried mushrooms & wings here. But, this has made me feel like I will no longer be generous on tipping *to-go orders*. If there was a way to rescind that tip, we surely would have because it was absolutely not handled in a way that merits us doing it again. ANSWER your PHONE. I am not trying to sell you an extended warranty or a time-share. & Don't expect people to be OK with paying for your mess ups. This is a prime example of why we will no longer participate in tipping culture for to-go orders.

Also came with the slaw on the top - good. The pork was tender and well-trimed, but I didn't catch much smoke. We had a side of fries, they were nice and fat, but not super warm. We had a side of green beans. They were a little overcooked but had a nice flavor, with a slight bit of a pickled flavor. Good value for the price.

This place has been holding it down since 1963, and they've got the plaque to prove it, proudly posted as a member of the Alabama Barbeque Hall of Fame. When you walk in, it feels like you just stepped into a time capsule where calories do not count and everybody knows how to properly pronounce "slaw." The ambience absolutely screams old school BBQ joint. Wood paneling. No nonsense tables. The kind of place where you half expect your uncle to be in the corner arguing about college football. Now let's talk food, because that is why we're here. The pulled chicken? Outstanding. Tender, juicy, packed with flavor. It showed up ready to win. If it ran for office, I would vote for it. That chicken understood the assignment. The BBQ chicken had that beautiful crisped skin that makes you lean in like, "Oh yeah, this is about to be serious." But then it hit the plate a little under seasoned. The sauce was on the thinner side too. Not bad, just more "light drizzle at a picnic" than "bold backyard pitmaster energy." And let me take a moment to publicly thank the potato salad. Special shout out. Creamy, balanced, and clearly made by somebody's grandmother who does not measure anything and does not need to. All in all, Johnny's is a solid four stars. Historic, nostalgic, and when they hit, they really hit. I'll be back, mostly for that pulled chicken and potato salad combo that had me considering a second plate and a nap.
