Nikkei Ramen-ya 565…read moreEngland Ave Courtenay, BC V9N 2N2 (250) 897-4700 Open 7 days a week from 11.30am - 8pm except for Friday & Saturday (closes at 9pm) Street parking available around the restaurant It began on a sunny October day in 2016. Inspired by the shops of Vancouver, LA, and Tokyo, and driven by their love of noodles, Greg and Erin Masuda served the first bowl of authentic, scratch-made ramen that Vancouver Island had ever seen. Six years and 40 flavours later, Nikkei Ramen-ya still bustles; if you can't make it to our shop in Downtown Courtenay, you can now find our ramen at your local Vancouver Island grocer. From silky Tonkotsu to vegan-friendly options and crisp karaage chicken, we've got something for every craving. Gluten-free options are available Our review- We met a friend for dinner, we went early at about 4.30pm, it wasn't crowded yet. Ordered our ramen on an electronic kiosk menu board... By the electronic menu board, there are table # stand. Chose a number & put the number that you chose onto your order as identification. Then place the number stand on your table. The noodles were very good, nice soup broth... we enjoyed the noodles very much, we also added a side dish of green beans, dressing on the beans was like the Japanese spinach (Gomae). Beans was crunchy & with that dressing, it was yummy. Overall a very good experience, do check it out if you are in downtown Courtney. You will not be disappointed ! Place was clean with decent seats Come after lunch or before dinner, the place was crowded during dinner time.

The tea that was almost $8 tasted worst than free tea (that we usually get when we go for Ramen). The only good thing was the Karagee but 4 pieces for $12 ??? Place was clean but service non existence, didn't even offer water. We are from Vancouver and we go for Ramen at least every other week so we know that is not authentic Ramen.

An absolute gem in Nanaimo!…read more upon the recommendation of a very good buddy, on my way to tofino, i passed by nanaimo for a hearty lunch in this family owned Vietnamese restaurant. Staff and owner very hospitable and welcoming! never in my wildest imagination did i expect to find excellent Vietnamese food the city of Nanaimo. this restaurant puts many Vancouver restaurants to shame. Their level of dedication to their craft is admirable and impressive. For appys...We started with fried wontons and the beef roll. My on my, the wontons were crispy-liciously goood! They were not your typical chinese fried wontons...the wrapper is paper thin and had a yellowish colour. And its because they used the spring roll wrapper to make It, making it super extra crispy. The pork filling was hot and juicy. Seasoned perfextly With a touch of cumin. One bite, and you will be in wonton heaven. the beef roll was truly a unique masterpiece. Whoever thought of putting a friend spring roll inside a salad roll and enveloping it with grill beef is a total genius!! You get a plethora of different textures and flavour profiles. With every bite, you get crunchiness of the spring roll, smokiness of the grilled beef, green leafy vegetables, and juiciness of the pork filling...all rolled into 1 roll! How could you possibly go wrong? Its a masterpiece like that of the mona lisa! We also tried the beef curry. Succulent pieces of beef slowly simmered rich thai curry sauce, Complimented by soft jasmine rice. Not a vietnamese dish, but executed with perfection. Curry was rich and robust. Quality coconut Milk and curry paste was used. Now..unto the pho!!! the ultimate test of an excellent Vietnamese restaurant is the PHO. More specifically, the PHO Broth! the PHo here is nothing short of spectacular! You can tell bec of 3 important factors. One, the aroma. Two, the clarity of the soup ( aka i how clear is it). And three, the taste! ( how deep the beef essence is!) This place exceeded expectations and passed with full flying colours! One sip of the broth, reminded me of vietnam. It was absolutely amazing! Head and shoulders above many restaurants in vancouver. Plus, no msg was used. We never felt Thirsty or craving tea. I could tell there was a lot of time, labour, and love invested into making the broth. No shortcuts! Just sheer excellence from chef. I feel very blessed to have been a patron of such fine vietnamese cuisine. Definitely a must try when in the city of Nanaimo. Service was quick and efficient. Will i repeat? As many times as i can! ;) Cheers! Happy eating!

I feel a bit conflicted about leaving a review for a single novelty dessert, but I specifically…read morecame here looking for this one-of-a-kind item! And I haven't seen many other people reviewing it either. So here's a review for others like me. If, like me, you were going to Nanaimo and decided to look up the Nanaimo Bar Trail, you may have seen that the Noodlebox here offers a "Nanaimo bar spring roll." What a cool idea, right? I absolutely had to try it, but we'd already had a big breakfast, so my sister and I popped in here for a quite bite just to try the dessert. And they very kindly gave us three of the spring rolls instead of two, which is a plus! Unfortunately, though, the spring roll tasted... basically nothing like a Nanaimo bar. And I know it's a spring roll and it's going to be different, but this was a spring roll filled with banana and a sprinkling of spices. The custard dip was nice and the portion size was good, but there was nothing chocolatey about it at all, and the overwhelming taste of banana made me wonder if they were just taking a banana dessert spring roll and calling it a Nanaimo bar spring roll. So, while this sounded cool on paper, I did end up feeling that, while it was tasty, it wasn't at all what I had been hoping for. Overall the Noodlebox location seems nice and the staff were friendly, so I can't fault them anything else. I do think I'll make a point to return here for lunch next time I'm in Nanaimo, just so I can give the rest of their food a genuine shot - but we were on a wild dessert quest, and sadly, this point on the list didn't really deliver.

Service was good but the food was horrible, no flavour but oil and Medium spice was way too hot.read more
