This is one of my favorite go-to spots for lunch now. The food is absolutely incredible and is, most importantly to me, always fresh and consistent. I've never had an issue here. So far, I've had the picadillo (my regular order), the ropa vieja, sopa de platano, croquettas de jamon (excellent!), the croquetta preparada, etc. and it has all been delicious and fresh. Now, one of the absolute best things about this place is the coffee. If you love cuban style coffee, then you'll love this place. The coffee here is amazing and, in my opinion, tastes much better (and costs less) than the coffee you can get at any of the local cafe's and coffee shops. Don Carlin is amazing! My husband and I come here and order out from this Cuban restaurant all the time. The food is always done to order and doesn't take a long time to prepare and have ready. The food is good portions and I always have some leftover for lunch the next day. We just catered from this place also and they were sooo accommodating and the food still tasted absolutely amazing. The best little locally-owned Cuban place! My family has been coming here since it first opened (maybe 15-20 years?). The staff is super friendly, and always makes you feel like you're at home there. Had to go to Fort Lauderdale for work. My boss was telling me that Florida has great Spanish Food. I went to my hotel and did a quick search for Cuban food and Don Carlin came up as 1 mile away from my hotel. I plugged in the address and off to Don Carlin I go. The place can fit up to 20 people and you can tell it's family owned. The employees are super nice and the place is very clean. I ordered the following: Marquitas (fried plantain chips) with Garlic Sauce - so good, crispy and I love their garlic sauce. Oxtail Stew - This was not on the menu and usually when I go for Cuban food I always get the Oxtail stew. So I asked the waiter and he said they have it and since it's a special, they don't have it on the menu unless you ask for it. I gave this place 4 stars because I was hoping my stew will have olives and visible green bell peppers but it was just pure oxtail. It was still go but I would like to see a little color. When I'm in Fort Lauderdale again, I will definitely go here. read more

Great local Cuban food restaurant, definitely right on par with Las Vegas. My husband and I came here for lunch. They give you complimentary bread, which was good. We also got two ham croquettes, which were amazing. He My husband got the fried fish special, and I got the grilled chicken special for $7.99 per meal. Each comes with rice, beans, and plantains. I subbed out French fries for the beans. Both dishes were cooked exceptionally well and tasted great. The service was fast and friendly, and our waiter interacted well with our toddler. This is an updated review from my last one a few years ago. Don Carlin's is still a great family owned neighborhood restaurant in west Broward on Oakland Park in Sunrise. They have authentic cuban food still made with all the love and perfect portion sizes. The restaurant doesn't really have a menu posted online so I wanted to add their most recent prices and menu items. They have a weekday lunch special and they are also great for take out, especially in the Covid times we are in. They have sanitizer on a table outside as well as inside by the register. They also have small sanitizers for the tables if requested. There is also sanitizer just outside the men's and ladies wash room. They are following all safety guidelines! This family owned restaurant serves up some of the best ropa vieja and their mariquitas are my absolute favorite. Don't forget to ask for some house made garlic sauce on the side. read more

I've been a loyal patron of a competing Cuban restaurant nearby, but they were lacking and I went out in search of better options. Don Carlin, where have you been all my life? This small, family-owned business is great. It's so flavorful and delicious, we always enjoy our food regardless of what we order! To start, you're given warm, buttery bread with a garlic flavor to it- just a tiny hint, nothing over powering! These bread pieces are addicting so be warned! I absolutely love their Vaca Frita! So much, that I have yet to order something different! You can select between red or black beans, rice, tostones, maduros, moro, etc. they have all the usual suspects! Their Vaca Frita is succulent beef that almost "strings apart" with a fork, and is fried on a flat top to give it a crispy exterior. My husband always goes for the Chicaronnes de Pollo. These are tender chunks of white meat chicken, fried crispy but not breaded. These also come with all of the accompaniments, and are so flavorful and a family favorite! They have also have great Cuban coffee! It's very inexpensive and very good! Service is always quick, and the vibes are definitely homey. This is a great family friendly place to get Yo Cuban on! While visiting family in the area we decided to go with this authentic Cuban spot for dinner that came as a recommendation. My relative placed the order via phone for pick up. Let's just say we all had happy bellies at the end of the night. The Ropa Vieja was delicious, cooking exactly as I expected, the Palomilla steak was done well, the chicken breast was moist not dry and the shrimp creole was just good but not great. The dinner entrees came with a generous serving of white rice and black beans as well as fried sweet plantains. One meal can easily feed two people or have leftovers to be excited for the next day. Don Carlin is literally walking distance from my parents home and we order take-out fairly regularly. I remember when they first opened many years ago and the food was phenomenal! They dropped off on quality for a few years after they changed hands from the original owner and I'm not sure if the current ownership is different but the food quality has definitely gotten way better in he last year or so. It's a smaller quaint little place and the ambiance is just ok. They usually have a soccer game playing or the news on all of their TV's which I'm not really a fan of as Im not really fond of loud obnoxious TV when I not at a sports bar or similar establishment. My favorite food items to order are the Palomio Steak and the Fried Pork Chunks. Their yellow rice is off the chain and if you dine in you must get an order of the fried plantains with a side of garlic. You won't be smooching anyone for a few days but it's totally worth it! My mom loves their regular sweet plantains so if that's your thing they come as a side to every meal. Service was pretty good on my most recent visit as well. I've heard of this place since it's close to home but never tried it out. I've had it bookmarked for so long. We were craving Cuban coffee and decided to stop by to get some. The service was good and the coffee kept us up to party with our friend that came to town. A couple of days later, we decided to get lunch here. I ordered the cafe con Leche since I needed that wake up boost to start my day. It was perfect. They gave us bread to start and that was probably the best bread I've ever had. I'm not too much of a bread person but when it's hot and soft, I'm all over it. It was fresh, soft on the inside, and lightly crispy on the outside. There was a hint of garlic butter. I could eat a whole basket of it. I also ordered the ham croquette and the potato ball. I absolutely love it both! It's soft, crispy, comfort food. My main dish was a Cuban sandwich, also very hot and tasty. If you're in the mood for Cuban food and don't want to drive to Miami, this is the place to go!
