Visited August 29 2025. See my receipt as always. I was craving Mexican food and I found this great restaurant in Colusa ( Off Fremont Street). It was highly recommended by a friend and it did not disappoint! I got there right when they opened (11 am) and was greeted by a friendly and sweet lady ( Elizabeth). I was given complimentary chips and salsa ( love the habanero along with regular salsa). I got the lunch special that came with an enchilada and tamale (#3) along with rice and beans. WOW,,,UNDER 13 BUCKS! The tamale was my favorite with alot of flavor and the rest of the dish was super delicious as well! They have a large selection of beer ( wine also available). I love being able to sit down in an air conditioned restaurant and relax! I would normally spend over 20 bucks for the same dish! Wallet friendly! Seasoning was on point! Still had leftovers! The restaurant is very clean and the bathroom was spotless. Plenty of parking ! Such a great experience and will definitely be back for carne asada and albondigas soup! The lunch portion of fajitas was an adequate amount of food, although the beef was a small portion-it was a lunch portion. The service was good, the restrooms were spotless-as all rural communities tend to have cleaner bathrooms. The food came out in a timely manner which was appreciated. read more

Let me start this off by blaming myself. 1. I'm an idiot. 2. I should have known better. I'm in Colusa for work and went to yelp to figure out where to eat. This restaurant had some of the best reviews in town so I said why not. Stupid. I'm not knocking Colusans, but I should really know better than to trust small town yelp reviews. When your options are so limited...anything seems good. But if you're used to big city dining then the food here is decidedly not good. The service was great and everyone was very nice. But the positives end there. The moment I sat down I knew I should leave. But I felt bad. First clue: this is a Pepsi restaurant. Enough said there. Second clue: the menu looked like it was borrowed from a 1990s Chevys. They had Fajitas on the menu. Dammit Eli...just walk out next time. Fake an emergency! I ordered the nachos because I figured that next to quesadillas they are the hardest to mess up. On the menu the quesadilla looked plain white. No char marks, nothing. So if that was the menu picture I wasn't going to risk the real thing. The nachos came out fast. But they were not good. Bland flavors. Only some of the nachos had stuff on top. Seemingly store bought guacamole. To put it bluntly...these are white people nachos. If you're offended, then trust me, you'd love this place. So if you live around here, then I think you'll probably be cool with this place. If you're traveling through...maybe get a burger somewhere else. I feel like Colusa would be better at handling burgers. read more

More like 2.5 stars. When we saw this was a 4-star restaurant we decided to give it a shot, and were pretty disappointed. The chips, although warm, were tasteless, and the salsa not much better. I had the al pastor tacos, which were just OK: more like chunks of carne asada-sized pork seasoned with al pastor spices, nowhere near to what comes off the "trompa". These were full-sized "tacos" (in quotes b/c they were more like a cheese-less quesadilla) so it was a generous serving, but taste-wise rather mediocre. The beans were OK and I didn't taste the rice; the small scoop of guac was a nice touch, but pretty tasteless as well. My girl's tortilla soup was generous but bland: plenty of shredded chicken and some avos, but taste-wise not much happening. The service was attentive and nice but the food just didn't cut it, really. First clue should've been we walked into an empty restaurant on a Saturday at lunch time and the only other patrons were "gabachos", usually a warning. As someone else mentioned, the 4.5 rating will definitely make you scratch your head. The service was actually great, but the food was not good. Not a lick of seasoning on anything, and not to mention the fajitas were undercooked and crunchy.. i did like the refried beans and chips. Salsa wasn't bad either. Gotta add to the great reviews....we were forced into town because of a flat tire and after an excellent experience at the tire shop we forfeited why not yelp a place to eat! I have eaten here twice in several months, both times food was underwhelming to say the least. I asked if they made Enchiladas Suisas - Yes. Instead, I got chicken enchiladas with boring, tasteless green sauce. Not enchiladas Suisas by a long shot. I had asked for ranchero beans, I was served soupy refried beans. I ordered their chicken fajita quesadilla. The tortilla was cracked and dry, not toasted, only a few shreds of lukewarm chicken inside, nothing in the way of grilled tomatoes, peppers and onions that one would expect, just a little barely melted cheese = AWFUL. No salsa, no guacamole as shown on the menu, just a dab of sour cream on the side. Good thing there was extra salsa on the table. I get a way better quesadilla from my local taco truck for way less money. And, a glass of iced tea was $3.50! Outrageous!! Service is reasonably fast, but they cannot keep track of who ordered what for a group of any size. Both times I was here guests were served the wrong plate. Maybe I am just not lucky... others I know like the place a lot. I will choose another restaurant. read more

We are visiting from the Bay Area and were worried about where to find yummy and healthy food for dinner. We have dietary restrictions - vegan, vegetarian and flour and rice free. We found it! This place had quick, friendly and excellent service. They took our special orders without compliant and put together an incredible and delicious vegan meal for me. We had the veggie enchiladas, veggie fajitas, quesadillas fajitas and shrimp fajitas. All very, very good! Vegetarians and vegans don't be afraid to eat here! Stopped here on the way through Colusa. Was very disappointed in the food. Yelp said 4 1/2 Stars. No way. Maybe 4 1/2 stars in Colusa but only 1 anywhere else. Hate to be credical but I have to be honest, and of course this is my opinion. Food was at least hot but that's the only thing. My wife had the tortilla soup with chicken. The chip were burnt and the chicken wasn't even real chicken. Chicken roll. Thick chicken lunch meat and it was grilled. I can't even guess what the chicken was like in their tacos or enchiladas. Just horrible. Again hate to rip on them because the service was great and I suspect our waiter was the owner. Just didn't like the food. Honestly, I will never go back. read more

Don Habanero's is a great local eatery. The food is consistently good and the service is wonderful. They close usually at 7:30pm, the latest of any restaurant in Colusa other than the Bowling Alley, Burger King, and Jeff's. If I had to mention one thing, is that their water needs to be better filtered. Colusa does not have the best tasting water, so its not the restaurants fault... But a simple filter would make the soda, tea, and water taste normal. The ice is ok ironically, because the ice machine probably has its own filter. But the soda machine mixes soda syrup, carbonation, and water together, and the water is not filtered, making the soda very off-putting. I would be willing to help install a filter, if the restaurant buys one, free of charge... that is how much I like this place and want it to succeed. We must order a Mexican Soda with ice if we want to drink anything non-alcoholic. Oh! One other thing. Refried beans CAN be made deliciously without lard. There are a lot of vegetarians, and health conscious people who would rather not have lard in the beans. Yes you offer pinto beans without lard but they are a terrible substitute. Try the beans without lard and add some flavoring that will make it taste the same. So this place gets 5 Stars, and it would get 6 Stars if the water issue was fixed. I will even help! :) read more

Ehhh, bland ordinary all American style Mexican food. Edible but memorable only in that I must remember to not stop here in the future. A roadside taco truck is much more appealing. Probably fine for people who consider catsup to be salsa. Waitress was pleasant. read more

Staying in Williams CA tonight, decided to try Don Habanero because of their great reviews. It's about 10 miles away and normally I don't go that far when I'm staying in a small town. My dining experience is starting out strong with perfectly fried chips and one of the best fresh salsas I've ever tasted. It's on the spicy side which is how I like it. I ordered shredded beef + pork enchiladas, trying two different sauces since this is my first visit. Their regular sauce is tangy & delicious - not like the sauce at 80% of Mexican restaurants which has a generic taste like it's out of a can. The second sauce I think was called ranchita and includes bits of chopped tomato, onion & melted cheese. Equally delicious. There are another four enchilada topping options. I'll definitely be back the next time I'm passing through because the menu has many more options that I'd like to try. I'm glad I went the extra mile(s) tonight. read more

So, this is a pretty nice sit-down restaurant. Very clean, cool in the summer, nice wait staff. What it's not is a good take out joint. If you're expecting a hole in the wall Mexican place, this isn't it. I ordered a carnitas burrito to go. It was a fair size and average taste/quality. But it was $16 freakin' dollars! Probably a nice place for a good sit down dinner, but this is not the place to grab a quick burrito. read more

Saw this place on Yelp since we were here for work and had a good rating we decided to stop in. My coworker ordered a beef taco and beef enchilada. But he got a chicken enchilada and no taco. So we asked for the taco and they brought it quite quick. It was a hard shell taco like from Taco Bell but bigger. Not authentic but my coworker said it was good. I ordered the carnitas enchilada with verde sauce and shredded beef enchilada. My favorite was the verde. Sauce but the other one was good too. Not bad for a small restaurant in colusa. read more

Let me start by saying, I had no plans to be dining in Colusa this night, and no idea I'd find such an enjoyable dinner! My fiance was hunting up here with his dad (his dad drove), and he found out he had to work the next day! With no ride home, I drove the two hours from the bay area to pick him up on a Friday after work (just the way I wanted to spend my Friday night, right??). Anyway, I made it up there to get him, and at this point I was kind of grouchy and definitely hungry. He suggested Don Habanero's as a local staple and my stomach said "yes as soon as possible please!" They were quite crowded when we walked in, but luckily there was a seat open that we were given. The owner (must have been) joked that "one day he'll have a bigger restaurant" and made me chuckle. I ended up choosing a combo plate with a tamale and an enchilada. Both were good. I should have asked for green salsa, though, as I prefer green over red, but the red was good, too. My fiance had one of the big burritos, the fajita burrito I think it was. Hands down best Mexican food that I've ever had at a restaurant. I grew up in the area, so good Mexican food was never hard to find, and now I live in the mission district of San Francisco and I could probably eat at a different Mexican restaurant every day for the rest of my life. That being said, I have now been here twice in the past couple of weeks. The first time I got a chile relleno & chicken verde enchilada with rice and beans and the second time I ordered the sopapillas and got 2 chicken and 1 ground beef. They also have the choice of shredded beef. We also ordered the coconut shrimp appetizer that was absolutely perfect. I'm usually pretty picky about my rice and refried beans too but theirs are phenomenal. Definitely worth a trip just to eat there. read more
