Don Julio Mexican Kut hen & Tequila Bar is an overall fun place to grab a meal and dine in an upbeat atmosphere with friendly service and is conveniently located in a shopping plaza so parking should not be an issue. The menu does not stray far from the usual offerings found in countless Mexican restaurants, but that is not really an issue. There is a reason that these foods are beloved and so popular across the United States. I would even go as far as saying that Mexican food is one of my favorite cuisines and is probably the type of cuisine that I dine out at the most across the board. I went with a burrito and overall, it was pretty good. If you are in Lake Mary, Florida and craving Mexican food, this is a good option. It is also not far off of the highway if you are traveling and want a pitstop for a meal. Overall, I will give it four stars. read more

Stopped by on a Sunday night and it was definitely busy, which gave the place a lively energy right away. Parking was easy since it's located in a shopping plaza, which is always a plus. Vibe & Drinks The vibe and ambiance are fun and social -- a great spot for groups. The drink menu is extensive with a lot of creative options, though some cocktails are on the pricier side. The mocktails leaned very sweet and juice-forward, which may be a bit much depending on your preference. Service & Starters Service was friendly but a bit slow, likely due to how busy it was. Once our food order was placed, everything arrived quickly, and the food runners were very attentive -- keeping our table clean. Every table is served complimentary chips and salsa, which was appreciated and a nice way to start the meal. Food The food was decent overall, though a bit underwhelming for the price point. * Carne Asada: Cooked well, good flavor, and a generous portion. * Shrimp Quesadilla: A little plain; the shrimp was slightly soggy and didn't stand out. * Al Pastor Tacos: Flavorful meat, though slightly salty -- still enjoyable overall. We stopped in to Don Julio's to celebrate a friend's 60th birthday with a group of 8. I have to say that service here was exceptional. Nancy and I were running a bit late because I was stuck at work for an emergency. When we arrived, our group were working on appetizers and placed their orders a few minutes earlier. Staff were extremely accommodating - delivered our drinks and promptly placed our orders. Amazingly our orders were out about 10-minutes after all of our friend's orders arrived, which is unheard of. Our server Emiliano L. must have gone out of his way to fast-track our two entrées to make that happen which we really appreciate, thank you Emiliano! Nancy decided on the Aguacates Rellenos with Grilled Chicken ($12), and I chose the Carnitas with Flour Tortillas ($21), I also ordered a Yuengling bottle ($6). I have never seen the Aguacates Rellenos before but its basically two avocado halves stuffed with the meat of your choice (grilled chicken, steak, shrimp, or sweet plantains) served with a portion of cilantro rice and chipotle sauce. I didn't get to try the dish but my wife seemed to have no complaints. The Carnitas were excellent. The roast pork was moist and flavorful the pickled onions on top was a nice touch, the refried beans, fresh romaine, sour cream, Mexican rice, and pickled jalapenos were a perfect match with the flour tortillas to make my mini tacos, they also provided a side of hot sauce from the kitchen which was actually quite spicy and had great flavor; made for a great taco! The restaurant was very busy on this Thursday evening, yet staff kept everything clean and orderly even the restrooms. My only complaint is that they tack-on an automatic 20% gratuity to parties larger than 6. Emiliano was exceptional so he definitely deserved the 20%; however, I believe this should be lowered somewhere between 15%-18% because that is the standard. If the customer feels that the server went above and beyond, they can increase using the suggested additional tip recommendations on the kiosk. Other than that, I would recommend Don Julio's for anyone looking for good Mexican food in the area. read more

I've been coming here for nine years and prices have gone up which I completely understand with inflation but the fact that now if you buy a meal "to go" you don't get chips and salsa but if you buy an appetizer, you get the chips and salsa. Please explain how this makes sense. Disappointing and ridiculous. We are regulars at this place both in persona and through Uber Eats. Today we ordered food specifically the large Birra Quesadillas and queso. To say it was awful is an understatement. There was very little birra for the $31, and they were not even warm. The queso was also pitiful. Not hot and no chips. We went on a Saturday evening and the place was packed, but we were seated right away with a party of 4. The restaurant itself was very loud and it was hard to hear anyone else. It definitely had a very lively atmosphere, but not a good place to go if you are hoping to have good conversations. Our waitress was very friendly though and even with how crowded it was service was very quick The food was tasty and on par with other Mexican restaurants I have been to in the area! I wouldn't say it is anything special, but if you are craving Mexican it will definitely hit the spot. I later saw that they are known for their Birria, so that is likely what I will try next time. I got the Enchiladas Rancheras which were yummy and filled me up. The chicken and veggies are all on top, with the enchiladas being filled with cheese. I loved the Mexican rice that was served on the side! Overall, we had a good meal, just wish the music was a bit quieter. I visited twice while in the area for work and had a pretty solid experience. The large premium margaritas taste great and are reasonably priced. As for the food, I found it to be a bit of a mixed bag. Some tacos were great, like the birria, pastor, and fish tacos; while others not so much. My biggest gripe is they'll place a large chunk of protein in a tiny taco, which I find unpleasant to eat. The pork belly isn't crispy at all. I had one bite and that's it yet was still charged for it. They do the same with the ribeye and throw a spoonful of guacamole on it, and while I liked the fish taco I did need to use utemsils because again the protein is too big for the tortilla. I'd give this spot a solid 4 stars for the service and margaritas. The food was also pretty tasty but I do think I'll try different menu options if I ever return. read more

Went to Don Julio on 4/09/2026 with my wife and stepson. The food was great but they never disclosed that they add an automatic tip to the bill which came out to 16.00. I added another 20.00 which was calculated including the 16.00 automatic tip. So an 80.00 bill plus the 16.00 automatic tip plus tax came to 101.00; I added another additional 20.00 not knowing a tip was already priced into the bill. The servers should alert you to the fact that their tip was already priced into and if we wanted we could add an additional tip. What a way to turn an 80.00 meal to 120.00 dollar mistake. read more

Wonderful place for a night out with friends! We decided to stop in while we were all in the area for dinner and drinks. We had such a great experience! The food was amazing. I had the steak tacos and they were out of this world! My husband ordered a chicken quesadilla and was so impressed with the flavor. We also tried the house hot sauce - WOW! This is definitely the place for some nice drinks too! Their cocktails are crafted to perfection. Everyone ordered stunning cocktails.
