The menu does not stray far from the usual offerings found in countless Mexican restaurants, but that is not really an issue. There is a reason that these foods are beloved and so popular across the United States. I would even go as far as saying that Mexican food is one of my favorite cuisines and is probably the type of cuisine that I dine out at the most across the board. I went with a burrito and overall, it was pretty good. If you are in Lake Mary, Florida and craving Mexican food, this is a good option. We stopped in to Don Julio's to celebrate a friend's 60th birthday with a group of 8. I have to say that service here was exceptional. Nancy and I were running a bit late because I was stuck at work for an emergency. When we arrived, our group were working on appetizers and placed their orders a few minutes earlier. Staff were extremely accommodating - delivered our drinks and promptly placed our orders. Amazingly our orders were out about 10-minutes after all of our friend's orders arrived, which is unheard of. Our server Emiliano L. must have gone out of his way to fast-track our two entrées to make that happen which we really appreciate, thank you Emiliano! Nancy decided on the Aguacates Rellenos with Grilled Chicken ($12), and I chose the Carnitas with Flour Tortillas ($21), I also ordered a Yuengling bottle ($6). I have never seen the Aguacates Rellenos before but its basically two avocado halves stuffed with the meat of your choice (grilled chicken, steak, shrimp, or sweet plantains) served with a portion of cilantro rice and chipotle sauce. I didn't get to try the dish but my wife seemed to have no complaints. The Carnitas were excellent. The roast pork was moist and flavorful the pickled onions on top was a nice touch, the refried beans, fresh romaine, sour cream, Mexican rice, and pickled jalapenos were a perfect match with the flour tortillas to make my mini tacos, they also provided a side of hot sauce from the kitchen which was actually quite spicy and had great flavor; made for a great taco! The restaurant was very busy on this Thursday evening, yet staff kept everything clean and orderly even the restrooms. My only complaint is that they tack-on an automatic 20% gratuity to parties larger than 6. Emiliano was exceptional so he definitely deserved the 20%; however, I believe this should be lowered somewhere between 15%-18% because that is the standard. If the customer feels that the server went above and beyond, they can increase using the suggested additional tip recommendations on the kiosk. Other than that, I would recommend Don Julio's for anyone looking for good Mexican food in the area. read more

I suggested this spot for a team lunch, expecting a fun outing and a great meal. Unfortunately, it turned into a lesson in sticker shock. The restaurant has changed significantly since my last visit. What appeared to be a reasonably priced meal quickly became much more expensive due to a series of undisclosed upcharges. I ordered a bowl listed at around $15, only to discover that adding protein came with an additional $5 charge--something that was not clearly indicated on the digital menu. In fact, none of the protein options mentioned an extra fee. The menu is only accessible through a QR code, and there are no printed menus available. Even finding beverage prices proved difficult. When I asked about drink options, I was told they offered several lemonades. Assuming the cost would be in the typical $4-$5 range, I ordered one. Imagine my surprise when the bill arrived and the lemonade was $9--with no refills. Our entire group was caught off guard by the final checks. Between the hidden surcharges, the unclear pricing, and the automatic 20% gratuity added to every ticket, the experience felt far from transparent. A meal should leave people talking about the food and the company--not trying to decipher the bill. Clear pricing and full disclosure of additional charges would go a long way toward improving the customer experience. Although they are delicious, In the small print it says happy hour prices only available to people sitting at the bar. There are ten seats at the bar in a restaurant that seats 162. The staff does not tell you this and charge more than triple for the same drinks served at the table. We went on a Saturday evening and the place was packed, but we were seated right away with a party of 4. The restaurant itself was very loud and it was hard to hear anyone else. It definitely had a very lively atmosphere, but not a good place to go if you are hoping to have good conversations. Our waitress was very friendly though and even with how crowded it was service was very quick The food was tasty and on par with other Mexican restaurants I have been to in the area! I wouldn't say it is anything special, but if you are craving Mexican it will definitely hit the spot. I later saw that they are known for their Birria, so that is likely what I will try next time. I visited twice while in the area for work and had a pretty solid experience. The large premium margaritas taste great and are reasonably priced. As for the food, I found it to be a bit of a mixed bag. Some tacos were great, like the birria, pastor, and fish tacos; while others not so much. My biggest gripe is they'll place a large chunk of protein in a tiny taco, which I find unpleasant to eat. The pork belly isn't crispy at all. I had one bite and that's it yet was still charged for it. They do the same with the ribeye and throw a spoonful of guacamole on it, and while I liked the fish taco I did need to use utemsils because again the protein is too big for the tortilla. I'd give this spot a solid 4 stars for the service and margaritas. The food was also pretty tasty but I do think I'll try different menu options if I ever return. read more
