Good tacos, good prices, small shop Came here on a whim. Missus liked the tacos here and wanted me to try. So we made the trek to give them a shot. Inside is all business. Sparse decoration and the kitchen takes up a majority of the tiny space. There are tables, but it's very much a To-go place. We ordered some tamales, some tacos and some chips. Went to the salsa bar and got a bunch of sauces to try. Drove to a parking lot to take pics and dig in. The tacos were a little overcooked and under seasoned. They tasted good and were dressed simply. They all needed salsa to really shine. The chorizo was the best bite. Just enough spice and seasoning to stand well on its own. The weakest being the ground beef, which was dry and not seasoned beef. The tamale was good, cooked in a banana leaf, good masa and the mole filling was hot and sweet which chicken used as the protein. A well balanced bite. The chips and salsa were basic but plentiful. Price was reasonable given the quality. It's not a date night Mexican place. It's a place for regular folk to get decent Mexican fare at decent prices, good portions, and basic but executed well tacos. What a find!! This quaint taqueria is serving up huge authentic flavors. With a couple booths to eat-in or a counter to pick-up the service is friendly and welcoming. I opted to order a couple tacos to-go and try their chicken and mole tamale on special. Wow!! The proteins were cooked perfectly with flavor - so all the taco needed was cilantro and onion - like they are supposed to be done. The tamale was probably the best I have ever had. Using a black mole inside the tamale the chicken was moist and tender. My favorite value was the salsa bar - at no additional cost you can choose from about 6 different salsas, from a variety of spicy levels and flavors. Also included is Jalepano, radishes and some other small things. A great idea that adds true value to the customer. Overall this is a taqueria that I will drive to!!! When I am in the mood for tacos I am here. I should also mention they do have a full Mexican menu with entrees and such. So many items to try to keep you coming back. read more

Been wanting to try this place myself. My kids have eaten their food many times and love it! Tonight I tried the Birria tacos and the Carne Asada tacos. Both were very good. Nicely flavored and the accompanying green sauce was very good too! Def will order from there again. We did an order pickup but the staff was very nice n the phone and in person. I frequently cover tacos in my Food Blog, and one day, one of the friends of the Blog said, you shouldn't be going to X, you should be going to Don Taco. Since I am one of the more trusting people when it comes to Food Recs, I vowed to visit. And I did visit earlier this year. I'm glad I did. Don Taco is up there with Hartford County's best. I arrived early on a Sunday. In fact, a bit before they were even open because I didn't notice that they open later on Sundays. In any event, they were nice enough to serve me and I got a chance to visit with one of the owners, whose name I forget, but he was very nice and he shared a lot about their business and his background. The taqueria serves a number of different things. I was there for tacos. They had a cool hidden condiment bar, which I loved. The restaurant is small, but there is some seating. I ordered a shrimp taco, pastor taco and carne asada taco. Each was great. The shrimp was tender to the bite. The meats had great texture and flavor. I liked that the tacos didn't all have the same filling. The pastor had huge pineapple chunks in addition to cilantro and onions. The shrimp had some type of alt crunchy slaw. Jicama maybe? The carne asada was more traditional with chopped onions and cilantro. The salsas were very tasty. All first rate. They also made fresh chips for me. Love Don Taco. I'm due for a return visit. Great place for hot fresh food! I stopped by Don Taco in Plainville recently. This cozy taco and Mexican eatery offers a variety of tacos, nachos, enchiladas, burritos, empanadas, flautas, and other Tex/Mex food dishes. The place has a few tables inside in front of the counter. I decided to order takeout and got some Birria Tacos ($9.99 plus tax for 3 in an order) and Fried Yucca ($3.99 plus tax) . The food was made hot and fresh and boxed and bagged to go in under 10 minutes. I enjoyed my dinner in a vehicle since I needed to continue with my drive. The birria tacos were excellent had tender stewed shredded beef, cilantro, cheese in lightly fried soft tortillas, served with a beef broth for dipping. The Fried Yucca was a good sized portion of deep fried golden hot yucca fries, light and crisp on the outside and hot inside. Tried a new place for National Taco day on taco Tuesday. The birria tacos were outstanding. The empanada was different from what I'm use to but also very good. Churros are crunchy sweet and yummy dipped in caramel sauce. Great customer service. Very nice people. I will be back. read more

I have now had their loaded nachos. One of the best loaded nachos I've had. It never sits too heavy. The nachos are light and crispy. I was disappointed once because they didn't make them loaded, I had just asked for olives to be removed. I spoke with one of the staff or owners of my disappointment. They were understanding and apologetic. It was a misunderstanding. If I didn't like the business I wouldn't have expressed my dissent. read more

Having grown up in Texas, and spent a lot of time in Mexico, what a gem of a place to find in Plainville, CT! It is pretty rare to find Oaxacan cuisine in the northeast US, but this place is the real deal.
