Damn, that's good. It has been years since I visited Coyote Flaco and I'm so glad I returned. My mom wanted to go there for her birthday (she loves the place, loves the owner...lots of love) so that's where we brought her. It's so damn cozy inside, both the deck/patio as well as the actual inside. It's bright and super welcoming. We all had the house margs, which were super tasty. We ate a bit light. Mom had one birria taco and the Gambas Al Ajillo app, which is garlic shrimp: Sauteed shrimp in garlic sauce, served with flour tortillas. I ordered the platter with two fish tacos, my wife had the California burrito. So good! The waitstaff could not be more friendly and they check in with you just the right amount of time. The owner came over to say hello to my mom and when mom told her it was her birthday, the owner disappeared and came back with 3 shots of tequila, gratis. Nice. Oh and it's affordable to boot. Stopped in for cinco de mayo and altho there was a wait, my friend and I got drinks at the bar while we waited. Once we got sat at a table the service was great and the food was pretty good! only downside is I felt they needed music. Also they had a menu at the bar for specials and when we went to order the prices were different and they said that menu was a mistake so that was just confusing because why leave it out? overall I'd come again. read more

I took my brother and sister in law there for lunch- it was outstanding as always- generous, well prepared, authentic Mexican food. We had tacos with steak, enchilada Rojas combo and shrimp and scallops (Baja California)Service was efficient and friendly, not rushed. The ambiance is casual, upbeat and colorful. We also shared nachos supreme for an appetizer. They also have a great Happy Hour. Parking is easy and accessible. You can also eat outside on their enclosed porch. Delicious food. I had a trio enchiladas dish and it was fantastic and well plated. I also had a Don Julio margarita that was great to look at but didn't have a lot of flavor. I sat at the bar and watched the bartender make it fresh so I know it didn't sit long, but it tasted a bit bland nonetheless. I chose not to say anything though, which I'm sure if I had they would have tried to fix it. My choice, so I won't fault them. Service was great. The bartender was attentive and great to chat with. It was in the evening of the National Margarita Day when my partner and I came here around 8pm. When you walked in, the place was packed full of people and you can hear everyone chatting away, laughing, and just having a great time. The vibe was great, you can just feel the love and the warmth walking in and greeted by smiles. We received nothing short of great service here with a friendly intimate atmosphere. Luckily there were two seats at the bar, we were happily greeted and so well taken care of right away. We received waters, chips and salsa while we perused the many great authentic menu offerings. The chips were thick and you can tell they were homemade (can't stand those chips that can't handle a dip and just break off), not overly salted, and the salsa was thick, very bright and flavorful. Of course we ordered the house margaritas right away first and they are up there with the best. Great mix of slightly sweet and not overpowering, good amount of alcohol content, just a gentle rim of salt, served in beautiful glass with a proper straw that isn't paper and a lime wedge. I settled on the Chile Relleno stuffed with steak. It came out in no time at all. They seem very efficient and have everything down to a science. the Chile still had its spice which paired so well to the thick and tender steak inside. I probably could have eaten two more at least it was beyond delicious. The black beans were so flavorful compared to other places where they can fall flat and be bland. The beans and guac come in these homemade tortilla cup bowls. It was very unique, something I've never seen before, and it makes sense not only for easier clean up but it adds a special touch to the presentation of the dish that highlights each portion and its not just all hodge podged together with ladels on a plate. Lots of care and love went into this dish and every dish, which is rare now a days in an age where things just get cranked out and they lose their quality and lack luster. This is definitely one of my new favorite spots and I look forward to coming here more often! OK, here's yet another update. We come here at least once a week. Sometimes twice. By now we REALLY know the menu. Some of the best Mexican food in Connecticut. Service is great. Food is even better. Ambience has improved over the last couple of years, and so has the food. A newish item on the menu is the birria tacos. I can't rave enough about this dish. I promise you one and all that these tacos are among the best dishes I've eaten in 60+ years. ALSO, the casuela (seafood stew) is amazing, plus the churrasco (ribeye) is fantastic. I don't know what that chef is doing in the kitchen, but the sauces here are incomparable. read more

Phenomenal experience. I was introduced to this restaurant this week, it was so good I went back the next day with another group of people. I had no idea that this food was so good. This restaurant has been here for at least 20 years and I passed by it so many times. It is a small restaurant on the corner, who would have known that this was such a gem! The mini tacos are great the flavor is delicious and there's absolutely nothing mini about these tacos! The tacos are stuffed with well seasoned meat! We came for happy hour both times and the mini tacos were 2/$5. The 1/2 order of nachos were $6. The Margarita specials for 5 and $6 . The margaritas were phenomenal! The nachos were phenomenal! The refried beans on thel nachos where something like I've never enjoyed before. I have no idea what they use to season them but if they do not taste like any refried beans that I've ever tasted from any other Mexican restaurant. You will not regret your experience!!! One suggestion: if you plan to have a group, make reservations. If you plan to go on a Friday, no matter your party size, make a reservation; they will give you preference in seating over the walk-ins. read more

I was in the area and I came here for the first time. I found this restaurant. The staff was very friendly and helpful. It's a decent size and there is an outside area. They have a great list of items; quesadillas, burritos, tacos, etc. I got the shredded chicken quesadilla. it came with a small salad, guac, salsa and sour cream. It was good, but I just wish they put a little more chicken inside. Plus side there is parking and street parking. I will come back because I want to give their steak burrito a try. read more

Casuela. Casuela. Casuela. A meal so nice, I'll say it thrice. This is by far one of the best dishes that I have ever had at Coyote Flaco. Think Spanish seafood with clams, mussels, salmon, scallops, shrimp and tilapia in a delicious broth served with rice, vegetables and guacamole. That's Casuela. This is such a great dish on a cold winter night! You have to try it. I am fortunate that Coyote Flaco is in walking distance from me. Their patio is so clutch when the weather is nice. Margaritas, tequila, chips and salsa, nachos...there are so many great choices and routes to take with the menu. The staff is always phenomenal as well. I love seeing the same faces each time I visit. Silvia is great! Coyote Flaco is in such a cool spot of Southwest Hartford. Off-street parking is available in the front/back and on the side of the building. I am also a big fan of the Coyote Wrap- spinach flour tortilla filled with rice, black beans, pico de gallo, cheese and your choice of filling (I do steak), served with guacamole and sour cream. While the food and drinks were absolutely delicious, I can only give this place 3 stars (being generous) due to service. I was not greeted when I first walked in and they told me to sit myself (it was not busy at all, only two tables with two tops were here). I had to wait about 8 minutes to be greeted by a server and no one came to checked up on me to see if I was enjoying the food. I'm a server myself and the minimum a server can do is check on their tables to make sure they like their food. I was honestly so disappointed because my friends talked so highly of this place. read more

Wow! This is the best Mexican restaurant I've ever had the pleasure of dining at. The atmosphere is clean, simple and aesthetically pleasing. More importantly the food is delicious and authentic. Not scooped out of a steam table like so many; but obviously prepared to order with all fresh ingredients. The margaritas were perfect and also obviously made from scratch, not some sugary pre-mix. While enjoying our meal, the owner, Sylvia, was omnipresent making sure everything was perfect. The staff is obviously close and works as a team. After spending the morning volunteering with Yelp to do gardening work in Elizabeth Park, we were sore, and tired and thirsty and in need of a recharge. Coyote Flaco sure did the trick. They weren't very crowded at all. We decided to sit outside on their big covered patio and ordered two cocktails- a Frozen Strawberry Margarita ($7) and a Michelada (a Mexican Bloody Mary). Turns out they were out of their Michelada mix, they drained every last ounce they had the day before (Cinquo de Mayo). So I switched my order to a Strawberry Mojito ($8). The drinks were both excellent, and fairly priced. Complimentary chips and salsa appeared. The chips were fine, and the salsa was pretty good- not too thin and not too spicy. We both ordered quesadillas. Their Spinach Quesadilla ($10) was stuffed with Monterey Jack cheese and spinach. Their Fiesta Quesadilla ($10) was a tomato tortilla stuffed with tomato, onions, mushrooms, and Monterey Jack cheese. Both dishes were served with guacamole, sour cream and a small side salad. My Fiesta Quesadilla was great! A nice portion with plenty of cheese and mushrooms, expertly grilled with a nice little scoop of guacamole. Bottom line? Our lunch, including two cocktails, ran $37 and the quality of the drinks and food were high. Our server, David, was pleasant and didn't rush us at all. read more

I was looking forward to dining at this Mexican restaurant since I was a student of NMSU in Las Cruces, New Mexico many years ago and love the food of the Mexican culture. Unfortunately, I was disappointed in the quality of food for several reasons. They did not offer shredded beef as a choice on my Chile Reno so I ordered the chicken which was cubed and tough. The refried beans and guacamole was delicious and fresh and the service was great. Our server was extremely attractive, courteous and pleasant. My wife enjoyed her enchiladas with mole sauce. If I ever return I will try the Chile Reno with cheese. I also observed the prices of everything to be much higher than the photos on the website. read more

Ordered the Enchilada Roja because they came on blue corn tortillas but 'we don't serve them that way' even though the menu states otherwise. The plate was lackluster at best. There was a period of my life, '04-'09 more or less where I decided to stretch my palate. My roommate was from New Mexico/Texas, so he knew a lot more about Mexican and he (I don't know how he got this one) also loved Sushi and Japanese food. First of all: Taco Bell can go the H-E-double hockey sticks. When they (their manager) assert that a cash register is correct (which chargedme over $1.80 in tax on a $4.00 sale.) qnd me, a man with a FRIGGING PHD IN MATH is wrong that $5.80+ is not $4 with a 6.25% tax rate. Your 'all-knowing' manager failed 7th grad mathematics. He barely needed to ban me, I have NEVER WANTED TO RETURN. Chipotle....aside from its affinity for apparently under-cooking meats, they managed to produce a great fat burrito for a fair cost. The was one Mexican place, around Vernon Circle. It had god revies. Firs to fal, they're 'salsa' was basically Pico de Gallo, no flavor at all. It was so bland, even only those who liked 'Mild' salsa complained. Most Mexican places will be happy ot load you up on 'fluffy' rice and refritos...this place seemed more interesting in making money on sides ("Oh, you wanted those with your burritos? $2.99 extra."...WTF?!@) They did not impress. There are only 2 Mexican places I can recommend: Coyote Flacco was one of them, (In my book, it was 3.5-4/5, my roommate gave it maybe a solid 3) . He found the spice a little weak, found it a bit bland for a place and my roommate theorized they would need a little luck to survive over a year in Las Crucas. read more

They have a decent drink menu too - margaritas and some cocktails and beers to choose from. The flavors in the meat are so good and topped with the black beans over it makes it nice and juicy. We've been enjoying meals at Coyote Flaco for at least 20 years. We live in the neighborhood, and this restaurant is such an asset to our community. It is family run, and the atmosphere has always been so welcoming. From the warm chips and salsa brought to the table as soon as we're seated, the many delicious and varied dishes (along with the guac! the mole! yum!) to their margaritas, and dessert flan, we've never been disappointed. Whether it's a date night, or a meal with our kids (and now our grandkids) Coyote Flaco is really a neighborhood treasure. read more

I love Mexican food and was craving it and found this gem. After a long day at work we decided to give it a try and glad we did. It was about 7:30-ish on a Thursday night. Bar was full and people seemed to be having a good time. Theres only 10 tables, very small and cozy room. Waitress was super nice and friendly even being the end of the night and all. I had a passion Margarita and it was good. i also tried the spinach quesadillas and it was delicious. I even ordered an order to go to bring home. Prices are reasonable. Entrée start at $9 and very good portion. My sister had the chicken Mole and she cleaned her plate. Overall food came out fast and it looked and tasted delicious. Will definitely go again, would like to try the tacos and fajitas next. The fried tortilla for desser caught my eyes will definitely trying it next time. A chef friend told me not to order a steak in a Mexican restaurant because they don't do rare or medium rare. But the steak on the menu looked so appealing that I ordered it--medium rare. The waitress took the order and the chef delivered. The steak was perfectly cooked and the sauce was as tasty as it sounded on the menu. The only thing missing according to the Texan in our group was queso. But that steak rendered the absence of queso moot. read more

It's tast like blandness steeped in grease. Theres no kick There no taste(except for grease) the hamburger(?) Used in the tacos and empanada looks like someone puked their dinner up and put in grease soaked dough and called it food. The tacos are served with nothing but the hamburger(?) If you can even call it hamburger. The rices tasted like its days old and I dont eat refried beans so I can not comment on them. But we couldnt even eat our dinners because it was just so nasty. We wasted 40 dollars on garbage. Taco bell is more authentic mexican food than this place. Don't eat here! read more

We've been patrons of Coyote Flaco since it opened. The little kids, who were the only ones who knew how to work the credit card machine back then, are long since grown up, although you can still find them at the restaurant. The small place has gone upscale some, but still has the feel of the family-run place it is. The decor has gone more "Mexican restaurant" over time. I liked it better before they added the streamers and hanging beer ads. My wife gets the taco salad every time. She swears it's the best around. I'm not a fan, so I typically get one of the appetizers for my meal. I've found that's quite enough food; if I'm particularly hungry, I might get two. By ordering appetizers I skip the beans. The menu is extensive, and the food is fancier than you might expect. The enchiladas come with two different sauces, and the dishes are not as gloppy as they are in a lot of places. If you look at the pictures, you'll see what I mean. Service is excellent. They have a full bar and a happy hour with discounted margaritas that are my wife's favorite. The desserts are good. I particularly like the churros. They have outside dining, a parking lot plus street parking, and a few slots in front of the building that are mostly used for their flourishing takeout business. read more
