This Hotel restaurant in the Westin Excelsior is providing first class service and excellent food at a fair price. The ambiance is relaxed, yet a touch of elegance. Wait staff here goes above and beyond. This restaurant offers a varied menu and first class craft cocktails.

Waited over 30 mins for a burger and this is what I got. Ooof I will be taking my business to Mr Ronald McDonald because this is embarrassing. Do better Doney. Im disappointed.

Yes I recommend this place. Food could use a little improvement (seasoning), but the service is excellent. I ordered the pizza and mixed green. The pizza needed a little more salt and more ripened tomato's. I would liked to had more basil on the pizza. I like my pizza that way. The tomato sauce on it was really good. The mixed green salad was really good. Overall good service, value for the food, location and service! I will come back to try other items on the menu!

    Pure delight and deliciousness!

What a beautiful location and excellent food and service. We are visiting Roma and found this restaurant as we strolled along the cobblestone roads of this ancient city. We recommend that you visit this restaurant and enjoy the beautiful wait staff and their hospitality. The bar and cafe staff allowed us to sit and watch the Paris Olympic opening ceremonies. We had cafe Americano and Mario brought us a complimentary dessert... it was scrumptious... all the staff at the Westin has been superb and professional.

The Doney is the hotel restaurant for The Westin Excelsior. It is actually quite nice and spacious and there is ample seating inside or on the lovely sidewalk patio, which has a Parisian styling. The menu has a variety of classic Italian dishes, everything we ordered was delicious. It is a bit pricey but the portion sizes were quite large and the drinks were strong so I consider it well worth it. The service was also very attentive and on point. Some hot afternoons after sightseeing, we just relaxed on the patio with an Aperol Spritz and Caprese Salad (see pix - that slab of Mozzarella is HUGE! ). The inside is nice as well (and well air conditioned if it's really hot out). I had intended to venture out to restaurants every night in Rome, but the top restaurants can book up weeks in advance, so if you are without reservations or just tired from sight seeing this is a great option for a great meal in beautiful space.

Had lunch and breakfast. Pizza fair. Spaghetti fair. Service horrible. Pancakes dense with little flavor. Eggs Benedict came with tart cups with mustard. They couldn't screw up the eggs and ham so that was good. Hot chocolate not good. Disappointed in Marriott.

Our last night in Rome we wanted to eat a bit lighter and a bit earlier. Got a 6pm reservation on Open Table. I had run by this restaurant in the morning. Beautiful location and patio. Wonderful Caesar salad- just perfect. Enjoyed it so much.

We went here on our first night as we stayed at the attached hotel and were starving for a meal. Lucky for us this restaurant was a fantastic way to start our vacation. The service was great and the servers even helped us with some Italian. We ordered the fried artichoke/mozzarella appetizer which was super rich and filling. The sauce it comes with was fantastic. I got the seafood pasta and there was so much fresh seafood I was very impressed. My mom ordered the lamb I believe and it came with a side of fried sea bass. I think the sea bass was a bit drier than my preference but my mom says the lamb was great. We got macarons for dessert and they were very delicious. Our table was right next to the window and faced the street so we had a great people watching view. Overall great restaurant and would recommend it even if you aren't staying at the hotel.

Have you ever had such a great experience at a place that you simply must go back the very next day? That's Restaurant and Café Doney, in the heart of Rome on the popular Via Veneto. Using the freshest local ingredients, the Mediterranean menu is tailored to fit the seasonal availability, ensuring each dish is at the top of its game. The restaurant design is a unique blend of casual meets luxury. With large picture windows that overlook the famous street, gold crown molding, an enormous sparkling chandelier, and rich chocolate-colored chairs, Doney's décor is upscale. However, there's no air of stuffiness here. It's elegance in a laid-back atmosphere which allows you to relax and enjoy the beautifully presented cuisine, delivered by friendly servers eager to assist. I first came to Doney alone, in search of a something different from the traditional pastas and pizzas. What I found was something superior - a place all its own - with excellent service, and outstanding food. I ordered the roasted loin of rabbit, and the skill of the chef was apparent in how perfectly the meat was cooked. Served with raw artichokes and cream cheese flavored with the salty bite of Pecorino cheese. I ate every last bit it was that delicious! I finished my lunch with a traditional Sicilian Cassata, a ricotta cake with subtly sweet pistachio marzipan, and a slice of chocolate cake, moist and decadent, topped with a thin chocolate square and strawberry. I knew right then that I would be back, and sure enough I was. When hunger struck in the morning, I headed to Café Doney, hoping to replicate my experience from the afternoon before. I didn't replicate, I exceeded it - if that's possible. For breakfast I chose eggs benedict with salmon. The eggs were poached to perfection. The pancakes were light and fluffy, and topped with fresh berries and a sprinkle of powdered sugar, they were delectably sweet and a great accompaniment to the savory eggs benedict. Two experiences, two meals, two different times of day. One conclusion: Amazing service, combined with a passion for quality Mediterranean cuisine makes Doney a definite place to recommend.

The food and drinks were tasty, though not exceptional. I'd return given it's value, except the service was honestly terrible. Despite our attempts to get attention, we were ignored while others were promptly served (this is for drinks, food is self-serve). My sister had to wave down a server to order her first drink. Later on, she was offered a second drink, but I was never asked if I wanted another. At the end, a server who I'd never seen came over to check us out. I think because he spoke English. When it was time to pay, he asked how much we wanted to pay. This was his way to ask for a tip, which is not typical in Italy, but since they profiled us as Americans immediately, i understand the attempt. My sister named the check amount and he processed it. After that, he said, "you know that that cost does not include a service charge?" She was taken aback and asked "oh, is there a service charge to eat here?" because sometimes there are service charges to eat at Italian cafes, but they are usually included in the bill. He laughed and said yes but walked away. This might be a tourist scam, as other reviews noted similar experiences, and the business stated tips are not mandatory. For locals, it's a great deal to enjoy a few drinks (around €8.50 each) and hang out with friends. While we were there it did appear to be the norm to camp out for a while.

This is not like the American version of Chinese food, they have to improvise on a lot of things. That being said the food is still good and edible. The waiters did not speak English only Italian so this gives you an idea of how this part of town is not touristy at all. They still manage to communicate with us on what we want to order. A couple of times i been here with my friends and someone just pointed to what someone was eating to the table next to us and the waiter knew that's what we wanted haha good times. In terms of staff they all were friendly even tho we did not understand 90% of what they said. The restaurant was clean and they did not let those annoying street vendors in, you know the ones selling light up roses or some robot toy etc. There are a lot of restaurants in the touristy areas that WILL let those guys in but many do not and this is one of them. So if you want to eat your meal in peace this would be one of them. For sure try it and you will experience this American favorite in a whole new light.

The waiters at first weren't that welcoming but I think it was because they couldn't really speak English as they spoke Italian and mandarin. If you do speak in English they do have some waiters that are able to communicate some words to try and help you out. Traveling through Europe there aren't that many places where we could find vegetables so coming to get what we were craving was great. I would recommend the pan fried dumplings, the beef and vegetables and some other Chinese hot plates. The all you can eat offer for 20 euro is definitely worth it. The sashimi was incredibly fresh and made quick to order. The various appetizers all were tasty and obviously endless. The only thing that keeps it from a 5-star rating was the lack of selection when it came to actual rolls. Although very well made and delicious, their roll selection was not very extensive or "wild" which I look for in sushi restaurants. A nice touch was the inclusion of a Chinese menu which was also included in the 20 euro price and all of them looked very fresh and delicious. I had the spicy shrimp and rice noodles selections which were both made very well. I will definitely be going back very soon!

I'm a big fan of Japanese food, having stuck to more traditional restaurants in the past to get my fill of sashimi, one of my favourite elements of Nippon cuisine. Imagine my delight upon understanding that I could order unlimited sashimi here (I was under the impression that certain, more expensive dishes, might be limited). The night started well with a copious selection of sushi and sashimi, ordered in conjunction with my five fellow diners. It's AYCE, so I focus on the fish, overlooking other delicacies that I usually enjoy, such as tempura and soba noodles. The seaweed is heavily vinegared without much other flavour. The tuna sashimi has no flavour at all, while the salmon is a little more tasty, probably due to its natural oil content. The experience is one of a feeding frenzy, without care for flavour or presentation: the sushi are fashioned expertly enough, but garlicky mayo and other California-style rolls are a bit of a turn-off. By the end of the evening, we've over-eaten and I have the sense of having binged for the sake of it, rather than enjoying what I usually consider an exquisite ethnic choice. Obviously, the restaurant's not to blame for the piggishness of the diners, but it's a formula I don't enjoy and which seems far from the central reason of why I go out for dinner.
