Visited Donna's Margate location for their jerk chicken lunch special and was sadly disappointed. I should have turned and walked out after seeing the interaction between the cashier (Kaya) and an elderly woman in front of me who requested steamed vegetables instead of salad. Talk about nickel & diming... basically forcing the lady to pay $2 plus and then when the server dished out her veggies, told the server 'that's too much vegetables, put some back!' Never in my life would I accept such attitude. I go up to order and boric the lunch specials went up to $8.99 with a drink... Kaya bagged up everything and handed me. No drink cup... when I asked for the cup she very rudely told me the machine is broken and they're not giving out drinks! Any business that wants to stay in business would realize when something is out, FIND A REPLACEMENT TO KEEP YOUR CUSTOMERS HAPPY!!!! There was a fully stocked refrigerator with canned drinks, why not offer those I asked Kaya... the response was that the offer is only for fountain drinks. I hate to write this because I have been a loyal customer of this Donna's location for years, but my most recent visit will likely be my last. Over the past year, the quality of both the food and the service has declined significantly. The curry chicken with rice and peas, which used to be one of my favorite dishes, was extremely under-seasoned and lacked the flavor that Donna's is known for. On several visits they have also been out of plantains, with no effort to offer an alternative side or solution. What was most disappointing, however, was the overall condition of the restaurant. Multiple tables were dirty, making it difficult for customers to even sit down and enjoy their meal inside. It gave the impression that there is very little attention being paid to the customer experience. This location used to be a dependable spot with great food and service, which is why it's so frustrating to see such a noticeable decline. I truly hope management takes the time to address these issues and bring the quality back to what it once was. read more

Came here because I was craving some Jamaican food. I got the brown stew chicken with rice and beans and sweet plantains. They were out of cabbage which I was upset about. I was actually looking forward to it so I had to substitute for salad instead the food is OK they do give a lot of food but honestly, the brown chicken stew was a little bit dry for me And I don't know it was like lacking some flavor. We arrived to visit family and they recommended Caribbean food in Margate. We ordered the oxtail dish and the brown stew chicken. There is an older lady manager that has been sabotaging this businesses by purposely giving customers rude service as well as wrong portion sizes. The plantain were all burnt and couldn't be served. The jerk pork was majority fat pieces with only one piece of meat that was edible. The rice was good but the way the manager slopped the food on the plate made it look disgusting. This manager has no heart for serving food and the well-being of her customers as the face for this location. She is rude to the other workers which makes it awkward as a customer and she's rude to customers. I've given this location chance after chances spending thousands of dollars over the years but the buck stops now! I will never and make sure everyone knows how terrible the food and experience has been. Just moved from New York, and today I wanted Curry Goat. So I checked to see what's in the neighborhood. Came across Donna's and decided to check it out. First most the customer service was zero. I love their oxtail and husband loves their stewed chicken but holy hell the service is always ungodly slow. They definitely take island time to another level but we always just keep coming back because the food is delicious and the price is just right. We got the jerk chicken once and it was just a bit dry for us. We just stick with the oxtail and stewed chicken and love their slaw when they do have it. Most of the time they don't but def ask for it and get the slaw in place of the salad, it'll be a nice treat for your palate. It's not the Mayo based slaw like most places. Just got their #1 oxtail which I got with peas and rice, salad, and plantains. I asked for gravy overall. This was some of the best oxtail I've eaten in a very long time. The oxtail was rich and meaty. The dark brown sauce so flavorful that I was constantly licking my fingers. Their peas and rice is with red beans (habichuelas) rather than Bahamian "peas" and it's mixed into the rice like congris. A small order was still a Very large portion. The plantains were sweet, thin and well cooked. The "salad" was like a slaw in a vinegary slightly sweet dressing -- shredded cabbage, thinly sliced red peppers, carrots and cukes. Very refreshing. My husband's brown stew chicken lunch was equally delicious. Oh my god. Then there was the coconut cake. Got a slice to go but thought I'd just taste it.. wow. Moist. Most of the time I've been ordering my meals to go. It's very busy on location but I do like the oxtail and stew peas the most.

I can't say anything other than *chefs kiss* for this place. I was in and out thankfully there was no line. 650 pm and the food was hot ready and waiting for me. Everything was clean, there was a cook, a front service clerk and someone cleaning and sanitizing the space as I walked in. Everyone I spoke to was polite and the food is so good! The food is over priced and the portion sizes are not worth what they are charging the patrons. Their fritters are decent, however, went there last week and was sold burned fritters. On top of that it tasted like the oil wasn't fresh when they were fried. My wife chose the Oxtail I'm brown gravy and I chose the Brown Stew Chicken. If they ask you if you want gravy, say YES! GRAVY all over! Please! Don't be shy about eating your meat off the bone to get to every tasty morsel and there at lots of good sized sections of tender meat to enjoy! I asked for some hot sauce and vinegar (Southern thing ... South Jamaica in this case)to top my rice and peas which already had some savory gravy. The slaw is slightly sweet with a nice vinegar in with the cabbage, red and green peppers, carrots and cucumbers. Every bite of each was delightful with a pause to take a bite of the sweet plantains. I have reviewed the other Donna locations but never this one. I came to this restaurant today with my cousin. I ordered a large fried chicken with extra rice and peas with oxtail gravy and my cousin ordered a small brown stew chicken with rice and peas. After leaving the restaurant, my cousin open her container to find a fly cooked into the rice. So we had to turn around and return the food. I will say the customer service of the line workers can be improved. It seems as the workers move from location to location and the same workers are always rude. read more

This place is great! I'm a Jamaican who can't cook Jamaican, it's a 2019 goal, but I've been wanting a good plate of Oxtail, Rice and Peas and husband has had a hankering for a beef patty. We have seen this place for 2 years and we always go too late in the day so they are out of everything or we just never stop. Well, we won't make that mistake again. The food is amazing. The oxtail was delicious, the rice and peas was made perfect. The flavor was on point and the price wasn't bad. I paid for 2 drinks, a medium oxtail dinner and 1 beef patty and it cost $16. Was in a mood to try something different and decided to give Donna's a try. Totally not disappointed! It's in the plaza next to Penn Dutch market. Nothing fancy but the food is very good! I ordered the ox tail dinner which was very hardy serving! Melt off the bone meat, and the rice with pigeon peas and gravy bursting with flavor! It's served in styrofoam containers so don't get dressed up for this place it's very casual. Cash or credit is accepted and there is ample parking. Indoor and outdoor seating. Staff is friendly and quick! This will be a go to spot for me the next time I'm craving Caribbean food! Try them out! read more

It's been about 2 months since my last visit and it will probably be my last. The curry goat was tough as a goat and the gravy was thick and damn near tasteless. My wife's brown stew chicken had nice gravy but the chicken was almost all bones and hardly any meat. She ended up giving up and just throwing the whole meal in the trash. I have ordered about 4 to 5 times and each time the food was not the best. However, I believe in second chances, so I thought I would give it another try. I ordered the jerk chicken and a brown stew snapper. Unfortunately, the food was not good, again. As a Jamaican, I expected flavor and this was flavorless.
