I hadn't eaten anything all day and was ravenous so I decided to treat myself for a late lunch. Found parking right in front. It was pretty empty when I walked in. The waitress was absolutely helpful telling me all the drink choices. I decided on papaya juice. It was pretty watered down. Everything on the menu looked amazing so I started with a beef empanada while I continued to contemplate on my entree. The empanada was huge and delicious especially with the yummy garlic dipping sauce. The hot sauce was definitely hot! Finally I made a decision on the rabo encendido (oxtails) with a side of boniato (fried steamed sweet potato) and congris (Cuban black beans cooked with white rice). The servings were massive. The oxtails were seasoned to perfection and the hot sauce elevated the flavors. I enjoyed my lunch and had enough left over for dinner to share. This family owned and operated restaurant used to have a place in Boca, and I was so happy to find them again. I started with the beef empanada. I didn't love it, but the garlic mayo dipping sauce was good. The Ropa Vieja was very good, and the portion was quite generous. The shredded beef was slow simmered in a rich tomato sauce. I would order this again. The Carne Con Papas was also good. It's sorta like Ropa Vieja (same sauce), but the beef is served in chunks instead of shredded, and the potatoes were a nice addition. Just be aware it contains green olives, so keep that in mind if you're salt sensitive. My favorite part of my meal were the well done plantains, which were perfectly caramelized and sweet. The flan was absolutely delicious and the perfect way to end the meal. This restaurant has been here for many years and even though I had been here several times with the Orphans surprisingly the wifey had never been here! We were warmly greeted on our arrival and seated immediately. Our server Gabby was warm and very attentive and helpful. They have an extensive menu. As we wanted a lightish lunch we shared a 1/2 Empanada each one cheese and spinach and the other with ham and cheese. We also split a Pan Con Lechon (a Cuban Pulled Pork sandwich and every dish was on point, authentic and delicious! All washed down with a Cafe con Leche! My Wife had a jones for Cuban food and we have never tried this restaurant. First my Wife's churrasco was flavorful yet one would have to be a master of mastication unless one wanted to spend hours! I got it home and it was a clumpy mess of stuck together rice with very few carrots and peas and dried out chicken loaded with gristle. My guess, they threw in what they didn't use for the chicken soup and wouldn't serve in their restaurant. Not being able to hear our waitress explain some options, she was kind enough to turn down the volume. We started with a house salad, Italian dressing on the side. It was fresh and wonderful. I had Grilled Corvina topped with Shrimp. It was a tasty dish, though if not for the Shrimp, I would have left hungry, as the Corvina portion was very small. The side of Grilled Veggies was also quite tasty. My friend had Grilled Cod, also topped with Shrimp. It was very well prepared, and it was a generous size piece of fish. I tried this Cuban restaurant that I've been meaning to go to for a while that has mostly sat under my radar for the last six or seven years. I went for lunch, and I got an empanada and a pan con lechon sandwich. Caribbean Grill does not make its appetizers such as croquetas, papa rellena, and empanadas, it brings them in. That said, I happened to really like the empanada. The waiter told me that they recently changed the product from a Chilean or Argentinian style one that they were bringing in before, it has a really good sofrito flavor to it. My benchmark test for a Cuban restaurant is typically one of the braised/sauteed dishes or roasted meat dishes, such as Lechon, Ropa Vieja, or Picadillo, because this is where you can really taste the seasoning and the cooking technique. The lechon sandwich (which I always prefer to a Cubano) is excellent, it's very nicely marinated with a lot of mojo and has a good garlic flavor as well. I got mine with a little bit of extra onions on top. The meat is very moist, which is something that I look for in this type of sandwich, and the Cuban bread was also very good and toasted nicely. The restaurant has a full coffee bar, so you can get your café con leche fix here, also, they have wine and beer but they do not serve hard alcohol. I would definitely come back here, to try some of the other dishes. read more

When on my way to Miami in Dec. '23 for a cruise I had an out of this world urge for a Cuban and I found this place on Yelp. It was a little later in the day, maybe like 2 or 3 groups there, but not packed. I was shocked. The Cuban was out of this world! I also got some yuca fries and a Beef Empanada de carne. Fries were ok, and the empanada was good, but even better with the sauces that they had. It was so good we went back again when we headed back home. I got the Tostones Rellenos; not my favorite, primarily because I did not like how long they fried the tostones (I like them crispy and these were more mushy). The reason why I am giving this place a 4 is because of the nonsense that caused me to almost go off on one of the waiters when I went when I went to Miami again. The first time back in Dec. I noticed that there was a Yelp coupon for a free Cafe Cubano. There were two girls at the coffee station and I showed them and one of them asked how I would like it made, I told her, marked the coupon as used, and bada bing bada boom, done. Well when I went back this time, it was an entire ordeal. One of the girls that was there in Dec. was there. I showed her the coupon and she said ok, let me check with my manager, and stated but you would have to order something. Ma'am, I just walked in with my gf, her sister, and two little kids and we sat down at a table...guess what, we are going to order something, and in addition to that, it says it on the Yelp coupon. So I sit down and another girl comes and takes our order for drinks. We get our drinks and I ask about the coffee. The girl asked me to show her the coupon, I did, she takes a picture and goes and talks to the manager. Another girl comes and takes our order. Then shortly after the girl who I initially spoke to comes and brings the coffee. The issue arose when they brought the check. A third girl comes and asked me to show her the coupon, I show how was able to even though I had already marked it as used, and then she asked me to mark it as used, I do, and then she walks off. Would you believe that the first girl that I initially spoke to not even 5/10 seconds later comes up behind me and ask me to show it to her. I looked at her like, wait what, and proceeded to tell her that I just showed it to the girl that brought us the check, and marked it as used, and that I can't pull it up again. I don't mean to be rude, but don't get an attitude just because you can't understand or speak English fluently. As if trying to brush off my response, she says, oh I understand I understands, but can I see it again. I reiterate, I cannot show you something that I don't have the ability to pull up again, and proceed to highlight that the girl that brought us our check came right before her and watched me mark it as used. She just stares at me and says the same thing. At this point I'm annoyed, no, really I was mad, the veins in my head started pulsing and I was turning red, because it shouldn't be that much of an issue, I mean the coffee itself is $2.50, are you guys that hard up for money, you just got $110 for the food that we ordered, like come on. I ended up just getting up and walking out at the direction of my gf, who was able to get it resolved, because it just didn't make any sense to me. It should not take a total of 3 people, one who has interacted with me before in the past, and I'm kinda a hard person to forget appearance wise, to run a coupon for a $2.50 cup of coffee. I will say it is a really good cup of coffee, but come on. Yeah, I'll be back, just not even going to bother with using the coupon again, because, ain't nobody got time for that. read more

Then, we had the Cuban sandwich. It was a large portion with good flavor. Fries were bland, undercooked, and cold. The churrasco had the chimichurri on already and it was obviously cooked with it which made it very salty. Requested medium term and it was well-done. Congri was good and the maduros were great. Flan was harder than any other place we have had it. The 3 leches however, was very good. I'm sure they have good tasting items but it was an utter disappointment for us. Seems like it is the only Cuban restaurant in Coconut Creek so that limited our choices. Guess next time we have to drive further south for Cuban food. read more

This restaurant was a surprise in a number of ways. First it's location -- on the corner of Lyons and Hillsboro. It's not a place you'd expect to find a restaurant like this. Inside it's much larger than expected. And above all, the food was some of the better Cuban cuisine we have had -- even including our favorites in Miami-Dade county. We came for lunch. One caveat is that this is not fast food. You may have to wait a bit -- but it was certainly well worth it. Portions are also large here. Most everyone was walking out with take out boxes of leftovers ;we had our leftovers for dinner that night). I had their grilled chicken sandwich. There was a lot of sliced grilled chicken white meat on the sandwich along with lettuce and tomato. The large sandwich was cut in half so I was able to take the other half home. The Cuban bread was hot pressed/toasted (that the sandwich came on) and was great. Instead of fries, I got congris as my side for a dollar extra. The rice was mixed with small black beans seasoned with bay leaves, etc and also was very, very good. My husband got their roast pork sandwich. It comes with onions. He couldn't believe the amount of tender meat on the sandwich. He also took half home. For dessert, we shared their caramel flan. It was more yellow in color than expected (I imagine due to the eggs). It had the perfect amount of caramel sauce on it -- the yummy kind you just want to lick off the plate. I am so disappointed! We love this little gem. We booked a reservation for New Years Eve online. Received a Confirmation Text. We were texted again and asked to confirm our reservation. We showed up only to find that they were closed! No signs stating that they were closed-just a pitch black restaurant. When I logged in to see if my reservation was still there it said "the restaurant canceled your reservation"....the least they could have done was notify us that they were canceling the reservation. We were a group of 8 who had to scramble last minute to find a restaurant willing to accommodate us. So the staff here is very friendly and attentive! The restaurant is very clean and in between caring for guests, they were cleaning. We started with bread which was probably the best part of the meal! It was nice and hot and buttery and came with a really flavorful spicy salsa. If you like heat this salsa is for you. The sangria had a ton of fruit in it, it wasn't very strong. As for the food it was underwhelming. Not very strong seasoning, flavors or aromas which was disappointing. As we head towards the road of recovery, it's nice to finally start returning to some of my favorite restaurants. With a lot of latin food spots in the area it's been quite of a challenge finding which restaurants to dine in.
