Wish I got that but I just wasn't in the mood for cake this time. I got bread pudding and mini sweet potato pie. Donna's Delicious Delights, the name says it all :) I love the staff here they treat you like family every time I walk through the front door. This is a small Black Family Owned Business. You walk in and to the right there is a food case where you order your meal. There is a variety of different soul food items each day, so you may want to call ahead of time if you're looking for a certain item. The day I was there I ordered the Lasagna, it was simply the most delicious Lasagna I've ever had. Although it did not taste like it was made in Italy, It tasted like mama made it. It was seasoned to perfection and enough to share, although I did not share. My sides were good too. The Mac and Cheese is the show stopper on every plate, make sure to try it. They also offer some of the best cupcakes my favorite is the key lime cupcake, they offer it with or without nuts. I like mine without nuts. I've also tried their red velvet cupcake and that come with or without nuts. That's my daughter's favorite flavor. Oh and the cakes, I don't think I've ever seen so many in one place before. The cakes are displayed like royalty in the cutest covered cake dishes. Looks like about ten are out on display all the time. The cakes are beautiful, some look too pretty to cut :) my favorite dessert is the mini sweet potato pies, I come in all the time ordering them. There is something here for everyone. Excellent soul food, cakes, and cupcakes. You know it's the real deal when you see they have key lime cake--cake that is, not pie--routinely. They also have red velvet cake and cupcakes, lemon cake, caramel cake and plenty of others. These are the great big multi-layer cakes famous in this part of the South and Donna does 'em right. The soul food menu is kind of extensive but I recommend a tip: go with the special of the day as it's going to be the freshest and probably best-selling. I mean, why would you get a roast beef sandwich when you can get oxtails on Thursday? You really cannot go wrong with anything here though and especially not with any of the cakes: lemon, caramel, and chocolate are my personal favorites but they always have a bunch to choose from. This place is awesome! It's a black family owned business. They are all very nice. The food gives you that southern style kitchen vibe. I've have their oxtails and rice, rutabagas, Mac n cheese, squash, smothered turkey leg, collard greens, red velvet pound cake and all of it was the bomb! It is a bit of a wait when ordering since it's one person serving. They do run out of some of their popular items so do come the earliest possible. The lady at the rental car place in the airport told us to try this place. We decided to take her up on it. And BOYYYYYY the food was ON POINT. The mac and cheese was probably the best mac I've had out of a restaurant. The crab rice was b-omb.com. Fish was poppin. Oxtails were huge and yummy. The food was well-priced!!!!! Oh and that key lime cake... MANNNNNN!! I had to look up a recipe and I'll be trying to make that at home because this place is out of our reach on a normal basis but if I did live in the state, i'd be back more frequently. I am so glad I found this place! While you won't find as big a variety of sweets that you'd find somewhere like Baker's Pride, their cupcakes are unmatched throughout Savannah! Glorious giant pieces of cake, deliciously moist and flavorful cakes, with very friendly staff. I've been looking for a go-to bakery for my sweets and I'm happy to say I've found it here. This is also the only bakery I've ever been to that sells mini sweet potato pies, which are fantastic. This place is definitely a must visit for anyone who likes sweets! I wasn't very hungry but I knew they had good crab cakes. Today it was kind of hard for me to enjoy it because the owner told me if I use a card to pay - the MINIMUM I had to spend is $10. I just really wanted a light snack, not a whole dinner. So I had to get 2 crab patties and 2 sides - not many sides to choose from; peaches, plain or bbq chips or pasta salad. The salad has no flavor. $10.17 :( They should have a $5 lunch box and $5 minimum on card during lunch hours. I was about to say to myself, "why aren't there more photos for this awesome place?" But I already know the answer. Donna's creations are so yummy and delicious, that it is almost impossible to hold back for the time it takes to snap the perfect picture. So, just let me take a word picture for you, if that's okay! Some of the best places I've "discovered" are those I came across by accident. I found out about Donna's because they are next door to the dry cleaners that my Dad recommended I try out. It was "one of those days", so chalk it up to good fortune. When you open the door, you get slapped (more like bear hugged!) with the warm delicious smells of butter and sugar! Although I usually visit well after 5 (they close at 6 during the work week), they still have a very good selection to choose from. Let me tell you about some of my favorites: the red velvet cake is to literally to die for - moist delicious cake with that tease of cocoa, lavished with cream cheese frosting sprinkled with chopped pecans. Some have expressed that the price for a slice of cake is too high, but you pay for quality. Each slice of cake is so generous that two people can share it and have plenty. But if you're greedy, you might not want to. My most favorite item is Donna's plain pound cake. I usually buy a whole cake because, price-wise, it just makes more sense than buying a few slices. However, because I know me and cake, I stop by Dad's and demand that he take half because, me and cake. Anyway, I am not a baker, so I don't consider myself an expert. But by far, this is some of the very best pound cake I have tasted. It is perfection - moist, sweet, and buttery on the inside, with that crunchy, brown, tender crust on the outside. I wanted cake and oh boy did I get cake! Along with all the beautiful three layer cakes, cupcakes, cookies, and brownies they also apparently have sandwiches and wings. I ordered a slice of the birthday cake sheet cake and a chocolate cupcake. My friend got the very last brownie (not pictured-devoured too quickly) and it was absolutely amazing. It was the perfect brownie. Crispy on the top and fudge-y and creamy in the middle. I am still envious that he got the last one. I'd have ordered one for myself. The birthday cake was moist and so was the cupcake. I loved the chocolate frosting on the cupcake. I think this place was much better than any cake I could have found in the more touristy downtown. You really can't go wrong here! I love entering the doors and smelling loads of icing, butter and everything nice. Cakes line every counter top! Cupcakes for miles! Pies, brownies, cookies and personal dessert sizes make it hard to choose just one item. They also have a lunch menu that I haven't tried but it's your normal soul/southern cooking. There is a min debit/credit card Amt you must spend so bring cash if you don't want to buy more. However that has never been a problem becuase I always buy more to share at the communal lunch table at work. I try to limit my visits to just a few month becuase my stomach and my mind don't chat concerning sugar levels and calories! First time trying this place and the experience was TERRIBLE!!! I went in to satisfy my red velvet craving.. I purchased 4 red velvet cupcakes for about 8 bucks.. cool. Told my husband they sold food as well and he wanted to try oxtails double Mac and cheese with green beans.
