We absolutely love Mate Factor and visit every time we are in Savannah. The cinnamon roll and Mayan mocha are my favorite items to order. They have a few breakfast and lunch sandwich options which are incredible. We always get a loaf of bread to take home. We are aware of the 12 tribes and honor their beliefs, as this is part of why the foods are so wholesome and delicious. This trip we met Earl Gray, the sweet cat who hangs out on the outdoor patio. I wish I had known before heading to this place that they only make lattes with Mate and not actual coffee. I had the Mayan Mocha and my husband got the Vanilla hazelnut. Both were very bland and runny. The Mayan mocha was almost like having cinnamon and sugar added to water. Even though the café was closed when I stopped by, Jeremy (hopefully I got his name right!) still waved me in, handed me a treat just for showing up, and gave me a quick tour. The iced Mayan and mint mocha were delightful. The sandwiches were solid. My boyfriend loved his turkey sandwich. This unique place offers a wood-heavy interior and exterior and a menu of beverages infused with yerba mate. While my "green chai" wasn't really green in color, the flavor was distinctive and the mate totally works with conventional chai spices. Ordering a little cake with pecans was a good decision, with sweet and hearty notes combining in the brief time it lasted in front of me. It was a very hippie place and was quite well attended, and staffed by someone with a travelogue not too dissimilar from mine. Mate Factor is my top coffee shop recommendation for "off the beaten path" in Savannah bc (1) their herba mate is something to experience (2) you will find one of the best Savannah souvenirs: house made bread loaves and (3) with both inside sitting and a cozy garden outdoor patio which is dog friendly(!), you will be sitting pretty while you enjoy your beverage. My husband and I were looking for a coffee shop while heading out of town to work while we had the dogs in tow. This place hit all the marks - wifi and dog friendly. Although we were searching for coffee we couldn't resist trying the herba mate and we are so glad we did! We learned it is the national deink of some South American countries and has a higher antioxidant concentration than green tea! I had it with oat milk and it wasn't like tea at all - it had its own flavor. With all the health benefits of herba mate, you gotta try it. Whether you sit at the garden area patio or inside - you cannot go wrong. Lots of intimate seating inside (not good for large groups). The patio is dog friendly so that was a huge benefit. Omg the bread. This bread is the unique souvenir you want bc the shop owners GROW THEIR OWN WHEAT AND HAND MAKE THEIR OWN BREAD!!
