From being out of town I checked the other reviews and decided to come here. I read the negative reviews and they complained about to much domestic wine at an Irish pub. Well the Irish aren't really wine drinkers. One guy said it isn't NorCal enough for him well your in the mid west bud. My family has been going to Donnelly's since long before it moved locations and for several generations, and we can't think of a single complaint! When I'm in town, I go here every year for my birthday dinner, and we've also reserved space for parties and various occasions. Donnelly's has a great atmosphere, their servers are totally on it, and their food is fantastic. My personal favorite is the wings -- I'm very picky when it comes to wings, but theirs are tangy, and huge! No wimpy wings here. I live here...I always pass it...I frequently mention going...yet never do like so many places. I finally did it and called in an order from work. I'm a tenderloin jerk always in search of the perfect loin. I ordered the giant at 7.50. At first I was critical...it was good size but I have seen bigger. I tore it in half for the study...perfectly cooked...perfect texture...great breading. The bun was large and toasted (I'm getting softer to this loin)...I took a bite and sparks flew. Great thickness of meat, amazing flavor, unique breading with perfect flavor...you don't need mustard or anything. You will be full when you're done! I ordered a size of fries which were hefty and EXCELLENT...cooked well and the home cut style. Another ordered the the chicken ceaser salad which was huge, fresh and flavorful. Someone ordered the ribeye sandwich and said it was tender and cooker perfect. Donnellys is a crowd pleaser of first timers! Will be back for a loin and fries for sure. Business was clean, welcoming and staff friendly, helpful and welcoming. Impressed...what a Peoria gem! read more

Great food and choice of beers. A good time!

I have followed Donnelly's from their old place,which was great to the new location. I think that the new restaurant is really attractive and very authentic. We went on Saturday for lunch--the day before St. Pat's. It was busy but we had no problems getting service and our food in a timely manner. The food was great , as usual and the wait staff was attentive. On the whole, I was not disappointed in any way. I give the experience a "thumbs up"! read more

I called knowing we would be landing in Peoria late and getting to the Restruant just before the kitchen closed. Once we arrived the kitchen had stayed open as promised for us and I ordered what ended up being the best wings I've had outside of Buffalo, NY. One of my co-workers ordered a burger which was also "very good" but I think she missed out by not getting the wings. All in all a great end to a long day, thanks to the staff keeping the kitchen open. I will be back. read more

They brought us a folding chair stuck on the end of a table so we could seat all 5 of us, expecting my wiggly toddler to sit in it. Instead it left my hefty sized husband to sit in one of the cheapest, tackiest folding chairs I've ever seen. He ate a $12 meal (pretty average price for their food) in a freaking folding chair. Then we get this stack of crumpled papers that are their restricted menus because of St. Patrick's Day. They only had a single kids' menu option and were out of one of the sides it had listed. We ended up paying almost $6 for a hot dog and cup of applesauce. The waitresses were all confused about who had our table and clearly irritable, despite how slow business was. The food was good but not worth nearly the prices they charged and definitely left the wrong impression. read more

I live outside of Denver now but when I visit Peoria I always stop at Donnellys for an Irish sausage sandwich. Best ever, you have to love it when the sausage flops over each end of the bun. Spiced just right and great with brown mustard. I also recommend the Waterford chicken sandwich,just a great sandwich. read more

Checked this place out on my way to St. Louis with a buddy and we were both very satisfied. Went around 1pm and the place was mostly empty so seating was not a problem. Our waitress was very attentive and responsive. Food came fast and the beer selection was phenomenal with close to 50 or more brews available and perhaps 8 on tap. I had the blackened tilapia Americus with Chipotle mayo and it was to die for. Highly recommended and will return. read more

I come here often. I always get the same thing cause i love it so much. The Waterford chicken sandwich. I would not call myself a chicken sandwich fan. In fact id probably only get it 1 out of 50 times when compared to to getting a burger... But one night, that 1 out of 50 happened and I ordered the Waterford chicken sandwich on my first visit to this place. And I'm hooked. I would call it the best chicken sandwich in Peoria, even though i basically have not had barely any other places chicken sandwiches. I feel like I'm saying "chicken sandwiches" a lot in this review. Anyway the thing is great. And I always get the mashed potatoes and gravy and those are always great too. They are all lumpy and good. I'm always stuffed like a fat kid at thanksgiving after this meal. Im knocking down a star though cause there has been many times I've asked for a beer on the beer list and they don't have it in (at least 3 times). Once I ordered a Lucifer beer that was on the list and the waitress told me the manager hasn't been ordering that one because of the name. Totally legit reason, i understand completely. (that's internet sarcasm, internet people). Their beer prices are a bit pricey too. Ive had a wide range of wait staff, from nice to weirdo to boring... But int the end they all did a fairly competent job. In the end I'm giving this place the "me" seal of approval even though my exploration with their menu has been non existent. read more

Donnelly's is the kind of place that you want to like. the atmosphere is nice. the first few timers I went there the food was good, however the last few times it was really bad. I had a tenderloin one time and it had to have been about the worst I have ever had, no meat to it at all. Tonight I went with six friends (at my suggestion) Four of us had catfish. Only one of my group thought it was good. two thought it was tasteless and mine I really believed was actually spoiled. I could not eat it. I was very disappointed. They were very busy so many people must like it but I probably will not be back. I told the waitress and she did bring me some walleye but I really did not get my money's worth. read more

I am so disappointed in the level of customer service the wait staff has! The first time I went, the bartender acted as if it is an inconvenience to get my drink. He was incredibly short and had lacked professionalism on all accounts! Against my better judgement, I went back. This time I went for dinner. We were told to seat ourselves but after nearly 10 minutes no one had visited our table. There were several waiters that walked by and even made eye contact but not once did anyone stop to check on us. I typically try to support locally owned businesses; however, when the standard of business is sub par, I feel no regrets going to a chain restaurant. My message to the owners would be to set yourselves apart in customer service because there are too many "good" restaurants out there that fail! Whenever my family and friends get together in Peoria the first place we go is Donnelly's. We come from Texas, Nevada & California to meet with our Peoria families.. The catfish was always the best any of us ever had for many, many years. However, the last 3 times any of us have eaten at Donnelly's the catfish was fried far too long and hardly edible. We kept hoping it was a fluke and kept hoping for the catfish we were used to eating in the past but, it didn't happen in the last 3 visits. Not only was the catfish overdone, but also a couple ordered the tenderloin sandwich. Both were so over-fried that even a knife couldn't cut them. Also, the restaurant acoustics are so bad that it is impossible to carry on a conversation. How disappointing. After all these years, no more Donnelly's for us. read more

First time I've eaten at Donnelly's since their move. I remember their rueben sandwich as one of the best. Today I ordered their rueben and it was probably the worst rueben I've ever eaten. What happened? The waitress was rude and very defensive when I asked about it. No attempt was made to apologize or offer a refund of some sort. Really nice informal place for supper. Met family here when everyone wanted something different... From really good (& big!) Salads to irish fare to burgers and fries. Nice selection of beers (including Guinness on draft) and good choice of brands for mixed drinks (not just the usual cheap bar brands). Our server was very patient with us, clearly experienced. The food was good, the service efficient and unobtrusive, and we had an excellent time. Read the whole menu... it's a hoot. read more

Great sandwiches at reasonable prices. I eat here regularly, and you can't go wrong with the tenderloin. The stack - roast beef au jus - is awesome. What you might not expect is that the wings are incredible - I haven't had better wings anywhere else in town. Good stew, bangers and mash, sausage sandwich, reuben, and on and on...They also have a great beer selection - guinness/harp on draft (of course), as well as old speckled hen, and a number of bottled micro brews. Impromptu stop here tonight. Hadn't been to the new location, but it's quite nice. Nice separation between the bar and dining area, nice mix of booths, tables, dark and inviting. Easy to sit back and relax with one of the many beer choices. I had some raspberry thing, it was on tap. My partner had a schocktop. We had cheese balls while we waited, nothing special, but something to nibble on with the beer. I will say right of the bat that I didn't order what I wanted because I got something I could split. It was a big tenderloin. It was big, it was crispy. It wasn't the best I've had, nor was it memorable. Next time, getting something to really review. The fench fries were OK, I think they may have been cut there. They just weren't all that tasty. They weren't all that crispy. In general, there wasn't anything that stood out nor was there anything really bad. That alone gives it a 3 star. Unless I have occasion to go back, I probably won't even think of them. They have a great outside seating area, and it was a great night for sitting out. Even in the heat of summer this would be a good place to sit outside. They have good shading, not on a hot busy street. Good for families. Casual, good prices. read more

After reading the reviews we were excited to check out this local spot. However we were disappointed. It is definitely a very popular restaurant. At 7pm on a Friday it was packed. Very loud inside. We had no wait. We were shown to our table were I had to brush crumbs from my chair. The menu didn't have too many Irish options and I thought it was a bit on the pricey side. They only serve shepherd's pie two days a week???? We were served our salads (white iceberg lettuce with no cheese) but didn't have any silverware to eat with and sat there for several minutes before taking silverware from another table. Our waiter never came by at any point to see if we would like another beer or to see how everything was. It was also odd that the entrance to the kitchen was in the same hall as the bathrooms. So the entire staff was always coming and going; it was hard to navigate getting to the bathroom. If I lived in this town, I would likely not go back to this restaurant. read more

What a great place! Great atmosphere, great service, and great food. They have a good mix of traditional American as well as Irish(-American) cuisine. I like bangers and mash, but the wings are really good too. A nice selection of beer, draft and bottled, is offered and the Guinness is pretty good out of the tap.
