After getting my mani & shopping at KTA, I noticed the bright " All day lunch buffet" at Don Kitchen sign on the business name, Had me at buffet so I walked in the check it out. Thinking Maybe for dinner plans since we were staying close by. Nice, clean and new business, the staff was friendly sharing more info. with me about their menu. ** note, this place is not a buffet, don't make same mistake as I did, strange the menu does state LUNCH BUFFET ALL DAY, I guess the take out food they have that day is a buffet, you just order your plates from the buffet and have option of dine in or take out. Like Chinese fast food. The selections they have when I visited looks good, many choices. Choose your special mixed plates, prices for plates are: One entree & one side $10.95 Two entrees & one side $12.95 Three entrees & one side $14.95 Chinese roasted meats such as Roast duck, roast pork and char siu pork also available. They also have Clear Noodle soup in house special broth, the choices are Won Ton, chicken, beef, shrimp, Chinese roast pork, beef spare rib, & roast duck from $14.95-$17.95. They have dim sum too, pork hash, rice cake & char siu manapua. I only tried the salt & pepper chicken, they use chicken breast which was on the dry side, I like the batter/flavoring. We spent way too long hanging out at the pool when we checked in at the hotel so we never made it back but plan to check it out next time. The clear noodle soup sounds good! Don Kitchen is a great addition to this shopping complex for Chinese food, dim sum and roasted meats. Check them out but don't expect a buffet style place! read more

Best dim sum ever! We were previously purchasing the Pork Hash, or Shu Mai at KTA stores. Both KTA in Keahou and Kona became very unreliable with merchandising the Pork Hash dumplings. A quick yelp search brought us to Don Kitchen and we were immediately hooked! The service is much more friendly than KTA. The food is fresh and hot, and it was perfect. Really appreciate their hard work and great food! read more

(Suggest they switch cheaper thigh meat w skin on for the lemon chicken, however, the sauce was light and lemony. First thing I'd like to say is the owners of this restaurant are very nice and will take the time to answer any questions you may have and to me that's the key to good customer service. Next, the dining room is very clean because it's a new place. The food here is not the best Chinese food I've ever had but, I've had a lot worse. Service was great and prices were good as well. Manapua was decent with good char siu marinade, pork hash wasn't the best. Fried noodles (soft) was good but I would get the gravy on the side. We also ordered the wor won ton mein and a beef and broccoli plate with fried rice, which was alright. Char siu pork was good. Crispy gau gee was in fact crispy but the filling had no taste really. Would I come here again? Probably not. BUT they do cook the food fresh, which is a plus. read more

Run by what I believe are two sisters and their cute, elderly mother (who is back in the kitchen cooking). This food is plentiful and hits the hunger spot. Prices are easy on the wallet. This is one of the best Chinese diner I've been to on the Big Island since I was a little kid. The best part about this place is that all of the servings are huge for the price, especially in Kona. Panda Express gives so little for the price! Living on Oahu, and working in the Kalihi District restricts any type of good food or heavy MSG killers. Yelpers who gave this place lower than desired reviews seriously has not been to Kalihi. Speaking to the owner there, it seems that it's a family owned and operated which is great since hiring outsiders usually produce less superior products vs family owned. That was a plus for me. The char sui Manapua is actually hand rolled and steamed , unlike here where everything is mass produced and fatty charsui! They use the one that is freshy made directly in house which I cannot find on Oahu, anywhere..yet. Thumbs up guys! read more

I'm glad I went in person before ordering on the phone as I was shocked when I got there! Everything was different in person than listed on line too... I asked the lady up front what was going on and she played dumb like she didn't know. After she knew she was had, She said it was a long time since they changed anything on line... She was very nice and did give me the online price when she saw I was torked. I would probably go back if I couldn't find another place but I almost walked out before I ordered. My favorite off the line is the noodles, sweet and sour pork, lemon chicken and pork belly!! My favorite thing to order is the crispy gau gee mein. And then another step, until you reach the counter. All the food on the line is screaming out for you to choose them. You won't know what you want because everything looks so mouthwatering. It's a basic Chinese restaurant with several prepared dishes on in hot trays behind the counter (similar to Panda Express' set up). You can select rice or noodles & your entrees. My husband and I were fans of the 3 item combo ($8.99). It was a ton of food.... great tasting... and we could easily split it for dinner. The fried rice is a million times better than Panda's; and if you like egg rolls, oh my god! Deffinately comparable to mainland Chinese food. I order the beef mushroom with extra beef & the fried rice of course, with a couple egg rolls on the side. Don't forget the sweet & sour sauce! The dish is cooked up fresh in the back of the house and comes to you in a steam cloud. Savory shiitake mushrooms, zucchini, mini corn, onions, carrots and a stir fry sauce of perfect consistency.
