    a green food truck
    Jessica S.

I always saw this bright green food truck whenever I drove on Manono Street in Hilo on a certain day in a week. I found them on Instagram (@jawjackergrindz) and found out they're usually in Hilo on Fridays! It's located on the lot of the S. Tokunaga Store in Hilo every Friday. They also have set dates for Kailua-Kona and Waimea unless there's an event. For the Hilo date, there's ample parking around mainly on the unpaved area. I was actually stuck between ordering their Korean tinono and the Krispy pork belly. My roommate decided to get one of each and share, so I got the Krispy pork belly. Bad idea because I had forgotten I didn't like my pork belly crispy LMAO. But the food itself was good! It came with a side of kimchi and corn and a ton of rice. The pork belly was coated with a sweetish and vinegary glaze which was very subtle. Like I mentioned earlier, I didn't like my pork belly crispy... So I gave a lot to my friends in exchange for theirs LOL. But they both loved the crispy pork belly! The Korean tinono was basically like pork adobo without the heavy sauce. It just had the vinegar. This was verrrry good. The meat was very tender too! I should have chosen this instead. My other friend got their roasted garlic truffle New York steak. YUM! This was delicious. Lots of garlic truffle flavor that wasn't too under- or overwhelming. This food truck has an overwhelming amount of options but once you get your eyes set on something, you won't regret it! The food here is good, and I believe having a bright green food truck really draws in the customers. P.S. You can also text in your order in advance!

Technically we caught this place's food truck but boy was it amazing! I ordered the Steak Peuhle (sp?) and ordered a second plate to take home for the midnight munchies. Sooo good but a tad bit expensive - perhaps not considering the location.

This food truck did not disappoint! Amazing poké, wraps and burgers! Ate at this truck for lunch daily during a conference at our hotel and everything I ordered was delicious!! Highly recommend!

Perhaps the oil was bad or the beef was spoiled but we were very sick after! Also very rude when ordering.

Lots of free parking across the street. We arrived at 2:45pm n they close at 3ish. We ordered shrimp sari sari and torta talong. Portions were big for us. It was so good. Reminded me of my grandmas home cooking in Philippines We also had halo halo popsicles. It was so refreshing as a to go treat. Service was so good. All from counter to serving food were polite n patient while we eat after they close. Wish we found this place earlier in our trip. We will definitely be coming here to eat again on our next trip. Can't wait to try more dishes.

Our server was so sweet and she took great care of us, offering to put our kid's order in first and all of the little thoughtful touches you want when you are out in a packed restaurant. They have alcohol, but you have to ask (no menu). We got a couple of bottles of Asahi ($7) which was ice cold and went great with our food. For the meats we got the brisket (10/10) and the pork belly (7/10...probably because we weren't entirely sure how to cook it. Crispy/well done or medium still a little juicy? Not sure...it was all really good just not as good as the brisket). There are a lot of TVs (on every wall) and they were all tuned into UFC which was 100% fine for us but our 6 year old daughter had some questions! Thankfully live music started at 6pm and the guy was wonderful! Our kid was pretty interested in the performance AND the ice cream for dessert. $4 for a huge scoop of Tropical Dreams for the win! We will definitely be back to 4K! Pros Very reasonable prices for Hawaii Tons of easy parking Fun to cook your own meat! Full bar Very friendly service Cons No adult drink menu

We can't wait to come back and hope to have her as our server again. Also.... I must say that this is the only Roy's that has a chocolate peanut butter soufflé. They serve the food family-style but still high-end which was exactly what we were going for so we were not disappointed. Cocktails were great and the vibes in the evening are very nice for a more upscale night out. Food came out a little slower than expected and by the time our Korean fried chicken main course came out we were almost full and had to take it togo. But everything was really good regardless, my favorite being the mushroom salad even though it was a little difficult to chop up since they give it to you as a whole head of butter lettuce. The chicken was really good and really juicy, paired nicely with the side of pickled cucumbers

The restaurant itself is quite tiny with limited indoor seating, bar seating, and a stretch of patio seating. We were seated at the bar and had two various experiences with the two bartenders that were looking after us - the gentleman who was the bartender was extremely kind and attentive. He was engaging and made small talk with us. The female bartender was quite rude and cold, and I debated removing a star for her poor attitude and service skills. Service aside, my husband and I decided to try a few different items, including the Szechuan garlic noodles, pickled cucumbers, aji tamago, and Lion's Mane salad. All four dishes had wonderful flavor and were the perfect amount to share and leave full without being overwhelmed. I appreciated the freshness of the ingredients and the variety of spice. All in all, it was a tasty meal, but they definitely need to work on their consistency with employee service.
