Took my car here after calling and asking if they can repair a CVT transmission on a 2021 Honda HRV. After inspecting, they told me it was the rear differential and that they could fix it for $850, even though another shop inspected and confirmed it was the transmission. After I agreed to the differential repair, they called me back and said it was another problem, had to do with the transmission. I got the car back and sold it, these guys ripped me off. read more

TL;DR, charged $95 for DUCTAPE Brought my Acura Legend in to get brakes changed, and a new air-intake hose. The hose seemed to be a hard part to come by, and I needed my vehicle back ASAP, so I told them "Get the brakes done; if you can't find the hose, don't bother". I didn't hear back for a week. When they FINALLY got it back to me, they said the hose was "fixed". I was stoked; after getting my car back, I HAD to see this thing, so I pulled over & popped the hood... DUCTAPE The hose had been pieced back together with DUCTAPE. I immediately brought it back and talked to Don, the owner, about such a steep charge for... this. "Well, you don't understand, my mechanics had to spend a lot of time piecing it together from the inside, it was a lot of work!" No, sir; I paid for a professional job, and this is NOT a professional job. I could have done this myself. What's more, my instructions to skip the hose if the part couldn't be located were outright IGNORED. His offer: "I can see you're upset; I'll give you half your money back" Do not trust this shop. I don't like putting negative reviews but I want everyone to be aware of my experience. They do good quality of work here there's no doubt about that, but when I got my son's car back there was a huge dent in the lower driver side door. Unfortunately we didn't notice it until we got home because when we picked up the car the technician had to move the car upfront and he had the door open. I spoke with Don and he told me to take it to his preferred auto body shop to see if they could tell us what caused the damage. The auto body said it appears the door was slightly opened and a jack caused the damage. I went back and spoke with Don and he refuses to pay for it. He said they don't use floor jacks. A repair that cost me $400 is now costing me $900 since I have to pay for the damage. If you take your car here please inspect your car before leaving. read more

Bummer....we had a car break down in Tehachapi Saturday afternoon on our way from Colorado to Northern California and Don's Pro tech was the first mechanic we called, (mind you there is poor cell coverage in Tehachapi) and although I understand being busy, and we requested a diagnostic, they weren't interested in helping and said we can't even help you for weeks, try Bakersfield. Glad we didn't get back on the road based on the final DX of the car. I guess I should be glad for the honesty, but he didn't recommend anyone else in town and that's that. I almost never write online reviews, but in this case, it is the least I can do for Don and the rockstars at D.P.T. Auto Repair, and the above-any-beyond service I am thankful to have gotten is a story that deserves being shared. Two weeks ago on a Saturday morning, I left Oakland, CA on a road trip home to my family in Cape Cod, MA, in my aging Jeep Wrangler LJ. About 5 hours in, climbing the hills east of Bakersfield leading into the Mohave in a 100-degree heatwave, liquid started spraying out from under the hood. Searching in my GPS I found a lone garage open on a Saturday afternoon 10 miles up the road in Tehachapi that I was lucky enough to get to; D.P.T. Auto Repair. Don came right out and in about 5 seconds determined that I had cracked my radiator. I wasn't going anywhere. Though the shop was heavily booked up with other jobs through the following week, Don was very empathetic to my stranded situation and was able to locate a replacement radiator in his distributor's inventory system that he could expedite delivery of and was confident he could have me back on road Monday morning. At this point I was already thrilled because given my predicament at 4 PM on a Saturday this is the best scenario I could have hoped for. I checked into a motel nearby for a couple of nights since by the time I'd be able to make arrangements and travel back to Oakland I'd have to turn around and come back. Monday arrives and is when things start to go a bit sideways. The distributor was not able to locate the radiator in their warehouse that was supposedly in stock. D.P.T. called around to their other distributors to see if they could find one in stock anywhere, but a radiator for an '06 LJ is not a high-volume item, and the general consensus from the distributors was that one would have to get shipped from a factory in the mid-west, arriving at best by the end of the week. This reality was catastrophic to my plans, from the non-refundable lodgings booked across the country for my trip, to my girlfriend who was flying into St. Louis, MO end of the week to join me on the back-half of the road trip, to figuring out how to get back to Oakland, what to do with my Jeep, and how to at some point get to the East Coast. This is where the fortune that I happened to roll into D.P.T. really takes form, because most shops would have fairly concluded that they exhausted all reasonable options in their control. However, D.P.T. continued to make phone calls, check websites, outside their normal distribution channels, determined to solve my problem. This is not an exaggeration; I was at the shop at this point to witness. They finally located one in Lancaster, CA, about an hour drive away, personally sent a tech to drive down and retrieve it, and returning just around closing time they stayed at least an extra hour to install the radiator, and by 7 PM I was on the road. Don even gave me a TechNet Rescue card that they are a member of so that if I had any problems during my road trip other member auto shops across the country would be able to help me (he actually gave me two in case I lost one) and asked me to let him know when I reach Massachusetts. Thanks to their amazing work and some determined driving I was able to catch up to my original schedule, reach St. Louis to pick up my girlfriend at the airport, and ultimately continue on to my destination, recently arriving at my hometown on the east coast for 4th of July. Unfortunately for me, D.P.T. is not exactly accessible to me on the other end of the state, but for those of you remotely in their service area: this is where you want to take your vehicle. I took in 2 control arms to have bushing pressed in. I supplied the bushings. He charged me 179 dollars! Both control arms brand new with bushings are only 150 for the pair with new bushings. Having over 328K miles & waiting at the last moment for smog isn't the brightest thing to do but Don & his staff were amazing. I needed to reset my "computer" and was unaware there's an actual process, when I stopped by they checked my vehicle and then gave me instructions on how to "reset " the computer. I was really thankful for their explanation and their helpfulness. Once Bella (my car) reset & Don checked again (free of charge) she was ready to be smog. She passed & they were really quick & inexpensive for all the services they provided. I was having a little trouble starting my car. Sometimes . I didn't mention it I took my car for routine check and oil change . They found my battery had a bad cell . I had gotten last battery through AAA. Still under warranty so I of course called them there was no charge . I am very pleased with the service at Dons . Always take my vehicle to Don's Pro Tech because they are the pros of car care. Their oil change includes a 33-point engine check & a tire rotation if you ask. Prices are way better than taking it to a dealership & extremely reasonable. I brought my F150 here to have my transmission flushed and refilled, evidently they cut the hose and left the old clamp on it and clamped it with a replacement but they didn't seat the hose correctly and we had a seap that covered the under carriage with transmission fluid and the inside cab filled with the odor. These guys are TOTAL HACKS!!! The REAL ISSUE is Don' is a Crook! Won't take care of his customers when his mechanic makes a mistake. Small town. Small business. Big shame on you Don for poor customer service. Going back to show Don the hub bearing that his mechanics ruined by using a air wrench and cross threading breaking off 3 wheel studs. This review is over due. Recently we had an issue on my Toyota Seinna check engine light turning on. We had been to Don's Pro. Technology Auto Repair once before a few years back for a smog certificate and and felt good about the experience. I am one of those people, if I walk into a Automotive Repair shop or a Auto Parts store I could be sold a kitchen sink, I am so ignorant of automotive related services. So when the check engine light appeared, I was a very worried. My husband and I took the van into Don's. When speaking with Don I felt I was in a safe place, and I must add, if I were ever to encounter anyone in the automotive industry that had such an overabundence of charm like Don, I would run in the other direction. But I am thankful that I listened to my instincts, which told me I was dealing with a man of integrity. Long story short, Don and his staff did a wonderful job fixing the car and did so the cheapest way possible without sacrificing quailty of workmanship. Tha itself, for me, is reason to give Don's Pro. Technology five stars on its own. There is something else I would like to address in this review that speaks to the integrity and honesty of Don's Pro. Technology Auto Repair, which I feel is very important. After we left the van for diagnois, when driving to a near by gas station I realized money that I had been carrying on me was lost. So, we decided to back track and Don's was the only place we had been before I noticed that my money was missing. So, when returning to Don's we looked on the ground every where for my three fifty dollar bills and asked Don and staff if, by chance, they had found it. Frankly, being that no one had seen it did not suprise me, as I am pessimistic regarding human nature in general. So, we drove home awaiting to the estimate which we were told would be the next day. We were about an hour away from home when my husband got a call on his mobile phone. It was Don's Pro. Technology Auto Repair, they had found the money I had lost. Frankly, that $150.00 is a small fortune to us and I was devastated that I lost it, but then, to have it found, what a relief, but before relief, my faith in human nature soared. My opinion of Don and his fine staff, I do not have the words! I will never go to this shop again. Took my car in for a smog check. It had a check engine light on, I understood it would need diagnostic and repair. The diagnostic according to protech was that the intake manifold was failing and it was going to be $1400. (It ran perfect when I took it i )Seemed like alot, however i need to get it smogged so I told them to proceed. A week later, they called me and said my car was ready to pick up. When I got to the shop the guy said that they had cleared the code that was causing the check engine light to come on, but it had a pemant code that could'nt be cleared. He told me I would need to drive the car for a drive cycle (200 miles) and then they would be able to clear it. I spent 2 more weeks putting 400 miles on it. When I took it back, he still could'nt clear the code. I asked him what was next and he said i just needed to continue to drive the car until the code could be cleared but did'nt have a clue how long that would be. At this point, i called BS and told him I would just take it somewhere else. He just said go ahead with much indifference. So I left there and went to another smog station less than a mile away. The car passed the smog test without an issue. Basically, i wasted $1400 as well as a month of dealing with this because they don't know what they are doing. These people are crooks. Owner was extremely brash and hostile towards our situation. Our slave cylinder on the car that Don's Pro Tech installer was faulty and we wanted a refund. He told us wrong information about the clutch being out. He refused to even look at the faulty slave cylinder or at the repair receipt from the final repair from a 2nd shop without inspecting the car himself (we didn't trust him to reinspect since he told us faulty information about the clutch and screamed at us when we requested a refund for a faulty part on their shop). The 2nd shop we took it to fixed the slave cylinder for a 1/3 of the price and issues. Don't trust this shop with your cars. read more

I was 4 hours into a 2 week road trip when my car started acting up over the pass on Easter weekend. I got my car towed to Don's because they were the only place open on a Saturday and found out it was gonna have to stay through the weekend. My plan was to call up a taxi and go camp nearby and wait it out but the guys that worked at dons were all so hospitable and would not let me call the cab. Not only did they let me pack up what I needed for the weekend they let us grab some stuff from the store and told us to take our time and when the car was all fixed up and ready to go on Monday morning they came and picked me from the campground. The work done was slightly pricey but for the peace of mind and then to actually be treated like you matter when you're stressed out was the most amazing part of the experience. Sorry but I cannot recommend having any work done at DPT Auto Repair. Feel that I was lied to as they had the car for five days and on two separate occasions two different people (one of them Don himself) used the same excuse that the delay was due to them being sent the wrong part. Hard to believe they would be sent a wrong part two different times. Cost seemed reasonable at the beginning but each time they called about a delay something else had to be added for at least $400. I feel that having the work done there was too expensive. Took three different people to print out the repair sheet and none of them offered to explain what work was done or if I had any questions. We brought our truck in to have the heater fixed the first time it was just a vacuum leak and they said it was fixed we got it home and we had no heat. We brought it back they did a pressure check and called us up to come get it because it was fixed. It wasn't fixed still no heat. So we brought it back again this time they had to replace the intake manifold because when they pressure tested it they broke it. So they call us to come get it because guess what it's fixed. Get it home and NO HEAT. We take it back again ( I know it's completely our fault for being this stupid at this point) when we get there the guy tells my husband that I said they needed to check the wheel bearings, I never said a word to them about wheel bearings. Anyways 2000.00 later and we have NO HEAT STILL and our truck is now missing it never did that before. They had our truck like 5 times and couldn't manage to fix our heater but they sure managed to scam us out of 2000.00. BBB will be informed. Buyers beware of Dons Pro Tech. read more

We were headed to the Arizona/New Mexico on the start of a multi-week RV trip. We lost a belt coming up the grade into town and limped in to Don's right before closing one night. They said if we came by first thing the next morning right at 8, they'd fit us in. We did and we were back on the road by 10 a.m. the next day. Since we had planned to stay in Tehachapi that first night, we really didn't lose any time off our trip at all, thanks to Don's. The people were very courteous and the price was good too. They saved the start of our vacation. We've traveled a lot in our RV the last 13 years, and, although we try to keep the RV well maintained, occasionally you're going to need to get some maintenance help on the road. Dons was the only shop I could find and was a horrible experience the mechanic quoted me 100 for a diagnostic then don said it was 200 I told him the tech said 100 so he went out and came back saying the tech gave me the special price but its normally 200. Then they found out it was the fuel pump and way overcharged for the part 200 but they go for 65 and labor 600 I asked why it was so high and don told me its high because hes tha only shop in town and can charge whatever he wants to I asked my regular mechanic and he said the job would have been 300 to 350 at his shop Do not use this guys service he is a scam artist and should be put out of business I will never spend another cent in tehachapi this was absolutely the worst car repair experience I have ever had and the whole town should know that he is giving you all a horrible reputation read more
