If I could give 10 stars I would. Jeff went above and beyond for us. Our truck broke down on Hwy 58 in Tehatchapi at 4 in the afternoon. I called Murphys Diesel as they were closing and Jeff said to have the truck towed there and he would get on it first thing in the morning. He also let us park our Rv there as well. We were at the shop by about 8:30am. Fortunately he had the parts so we were back on the road by 10:30. We were so stressed and tired and he just made everything ok. read more

Murphys came to our rescue! We were traveling over the Tehachapi pass in our Gmc truck and travel trailer when we lost power and pulled over to the side of the hwy. Then the truck wouldn't start. Murphys was helpful on the phone and we had our vehicle towed to their shop. They squeezed us in the next day, identified the problem, and fixed the problem. We had literally just had the truck worked on in MorganHill the week before, supposedly fixing this same issue. Murphys knew exactly what was wrong with our diesel truck and put in a new bypass system (this model doesn't have a fuel pump). We were done in a day, able to stay at a nice park and get on the road the following day. By the way, the other diesel truck repair shop said they couldn't even see us for another 14 days! Thank you Murphys for your professionalism, in-depth knowledge, and consideration. They fit me in, worked with my schedule, checked over the truck and found an issue that a few other mechanics had looked right over. No one likes to have something go wrong with their vehicle...its an unexpected expense no one wants. I had that unfortunate experience the other day. I live local, have been in the area for about 2 years and have never took my truck some place in Tehachapi for repair work. I took my chance with Murphy's and was not disappointed. I came in assuming I had one problem and they immediately put my truck in the air and pointed out I had numerous problems. Issues that were pretty serious. They walked me through and showed me the issues I was faced with. I watched Jeff (the owner) get on the phone and call for parts. I have never met the guy prior to this day. I listened to him and felt confident he truly knew what he was talking about. During our business in the office Jeff received a call of a motorist stranded on HWY 58...he immediately dispatched one of his employees to the motorist...prior to the employee leaving a previous customer called and had an issue with an RV. The customers RV was stranded somewhere... Jeff informed his employee to stop buy stranded guy on his way out and help him. That impressed me too. It showed me he valued his work and his customers. After agreeing on the work and price, I needed to bring my truck back the next day. It was an all day project. Well, I had no way of getting home. Jeff said he would take me home and pick me up. Wow! I have never heard of that! Now, not stating this is the norm and happens all the time but I felt very fortunate that the offer was made. Upon completion of the work, I was able to have a short conversation with Jeff and got to know him a little better. I think I found a local mechanic I can trust...and he has earned my future business for all my vehicles. My recommendation...If you are in need of vehicle repair, maybe stranded somewhere, traveling through the area and stuck on HWY 58, you are looking for an honest mechanic, you want someone working on your vehicle who values their customers and stands by their work... My husband hauls RVs out of Goshen IN and broke down near Rosamond CA. He thought for sure the engine blew since we have almost 600K miles on a 2012 Dodge 3500 dually. I actually drove from OH to pick him up. We thought the truck was a goner. We then got a recommendation to call Murphys in Tehachapi. I made the call and Jeff said he could fix it!! Off it went. Once there, Jeff made a quick diagnosis and the Turbo blew. We ordered a new Turbo and did some other maintenance since it was in the shop. Jeff and crew worked past closing time to get us back on the road ASAP. We had a 2200 mile drive back to OH. Ugh. They all did a great job. Had my 6.7 f350 tuned and deleted in another state. The people that did the work did not do a great job. Bolts broken off in the manifold. So we ended up breaking down in Tehatchapee. Thank god we broke down near this town because we found this gem of a shop! These guys referred us to a tow truck driver, got him out there for us, and our truck over to their shop. It was a Sunday and they were not even working that day but they still answered their phone and came to the shop to get our truck and 5th wheel into their secure property with barbed wire fence all the way around it! Once they got to work on it Monday morning, they were fast, efficient, and cool dudes! Did not charge an unreasonable amount either! Excellent service! My husband and I drive a truck and unfortunately we broke down in Tehachapi, CA. We had to wait for a while on a tow truck but once we got to Murphys they got right on it. Although they gave it their best effort for a day and a half, the problem was out of their scope of ability. At the end they only charged us 4 hours labor and were completely honest about everything. They were very apologetic about their inability to fix the truck. They allowed us to leave our trailer at their shop while we were towed to KW in Bakersfield for further repairs. Well my story started back in July 2020 while going to the July Complex, I work on a Incident Management Team (https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Incident_management_team) while in route the truck wanted a new thermostat and clutch fan. MURPHY'S Diesel shop was closed on Sunday and aloud me to camp my RV at the shop so I could get repaired the next day! Thank you. After Numerous wildfires and 5000 miles of travel the truck made another request. Oct 30th with a blown head after returning from the RedSalmon Complex, Two other trucks effected before mine at the shop, so had to wait my turn. Both heads where rebuilt and bullet proofed. Nov 17th truck repaired and while doing a test drive the truck wanted a water pump. Clean bill of health... I drove the truck home and hour and a half and the truck got starved of fuel and got a New alternator and two fuel injectors. Nov 19 Newer bill of health. Thank you to the entire shop for my rebuilt F250 XLT 6.0 motor.. Still cheaper to repair than buying a new truck. read more

My son in law took my daughter's vehicle here to diagnose a problem, as they were recommended to do so by Carmax, believing the vehicle was still under warranty. He was told by the employee who processed his paperwork there would be a $300 diagnosis fee which Carmax would cover. As it turned out, the vehicle was no longer under warranty and my daughter and son in law were responsible for the $300 diagnosis (for a bad alternator). After some negotiations, they were so "generous" to drop the diagnosis fee to $200. Still WAY over industry standards for diagnosing a simple problem. It's companies like this who overcharge warranty and insurance providers that raise rates for everyone. read more

My Cadillac SRX broke down in the middle of an out of state move from San Francisco to Las Vegas on the Tehachapi canyon and I was referred to Jeff's shop. I called and he told me to have AAA tow me to his shop and he would get someone on it asap. My engine light was blinking and the engine died. Having recently moved to the area I asked my neighbor who he would recommend for garage work. He recommended Murphys. He said they do good work but they are expensive. That was a fair assessment in my opinion. I did suffer from sticker shock when I saw the bill but in fairness my vehicle was in the shop from 8 am to 5 pm. The mechanic was late and instead of making me wait the owner started the work himself. My husband and I just started driving our RV back home on Sunday from visiting relatives in Tehachapi when our left brakes seized up. We called our brother in law and he told us to call Murphy's Diesel Auto repair. They have a 24 hour service and that they would take care of us. We called and spoke with Andrew who told us to get our RV towed to their repair shop and that they would take care of us first thing in the morning when the shop opened. Stopped in on Saturday, 9/22/18 about noon to get an estimate on work needed on my truck. I went into the shop, nobody there, rang service bell (which apparently didn't work). I yelled and a guy outside answered from across the back lot while he was talking with some friends. He saw me go in the shop but didn't say a word. When I told him I needed an estimate on repairs, from across the lot he said he'd be with me in a minute. Still chatting with his friends, I felt he was being rude so I decided to leave. As I started back to my truck he started for the shop. I told him "never mind". If he can't be bothered to help a customer, I can't be bothered to give him any work or my money. I've been a motorhead for years and have a fair knowledge about mechanics and diesels. Our motorhome lost power climbing the hill from Bakersfield ... at 9 at night. Jeff's top flight mechanic, Andrew, showed up at the Big 5 parking lot where we'd found a spot, and spent two hours in the cold and dark replacing two very cranky fuel filters. Turns out, while the nasty fuel filters were a problem, they'd caused much bigger problems. We ended up parking at Murphy's overnight. Jeff and Andrew got us in right away. Bad injectors, a major job, and not cheap. But I know costs and the kind of work necessary. When I pay lots of money, I know when I get full value. Five stars isn't enough for Jeff and Andrew. They give honesty, understanding, hard work and tremendous knowledge. After thinking about it, I'd have to say that, in more than 50 years of dealing with mechanics and shops, this one is the best. Not one of the best. The best. Our motorhome ran the rest of the way to Las Vegas like it never ran new. Hills that it would have climbed at 38, it climbed at 55 or more. Thanks, boys. I was visiting the area when I got a check engine light on my GMC diesel pickup. It was a "priority" code, meant only for GMC authorized shops, none of which are any where near here.
