Today we had a big overheating problem on our 3500 Dodge Ram when we got caught in a huge back up on the 58 when there was a major truck accident. We were afraid it was the water pump and ended up being towed to South Street Service Center. What an amazing team there. Our technician Chris took about 20 minutes checking the engine over and found a simple problem affecting electrical and the radiator. Once the owner came out and saw what the problem was he said he wasn't going to charge us. Talk about a relief! Not all service centers would have done that for us. Needless to say we headed to the closest store and bought some drinks and snacks for the team. Thanks again for being our rescue. We thought we were in for a major expense at the tail end of our vacation as we were heading back home to AZ. We are so grateful!!! read more

This place is awesome. I experienced an emergency as I lost my brakes and was able to drop my car off immediately. They squeezed me into their busy schedule and replaced the broken brake line that caused the loss of brake fluid. Extremely happy with their response and fast work. We took our car in late October for a leak. They "diagnosed" it within a few minutes, without doing too much digging, and said it had to be a special order part. won't be in until "next week." " next week rolls around, and it's running late. finally, we pick it up a week and a half later, drive it half a mile to our house, it's leaking again. Its Thursday, and they are closed already. call Friday morning and they say they're too busy, and bring it in Monday. we bring it in Monday, "oh, looks like something else is wrong, too. that will be another $2,000 and special order to fix." we paid $2k the first time and it still leaks. "We'll have it overnighted, no worries." Friday rolls around and still no call about the car. we call them, they say "oh, they sent us the wrong part. not sure if it was them or us who ordered it wrong, but it's gonna be another few days." Monday AGAIN comes around, "oh, they haven't delivered the part yet. should be tomorrow." at this point we've had a month of tomorrows and my car is still not fixed. today has been over a month, they "fixed" the problem, but now the computer needs to be reset and the guy who can do it is out, and they close at 12. I'm $4k in the hole and no car. Every time we call to check on the car, they get it confused with another car and we have to describe the car in detail that they keep getting the brand mixed up. don't trust them. I would not trust Doug with anything about my car. After spending over $1,800 my car is actually doing worse than before. All forums say a battery could test good and still be bad but according to him that's incorrect. Proposed to give him back the supposed "good" battery for him to put back into someone else's car and give me a new one but all he will do is test it which anyone can research that it could still be bad. When I first asked he got frustrated and told me my car doesn't work and he keeps telling me not to bring it back yet I gave him all this money to fix it that he took lol. Thought mechanics fix cars. I guess they don't honor their warranty. OH and I paid him hundreds of dollars to change a cluster that he swore was hooked up correct and I'd have to pay for them to check so I did it myself and I attached a photo that my 9 year old daughter can tell what's wrong. Doug and his crew were absolute professionals by immediately diagnosing damage to vehicle and communicating to insurance co. Doug also gave us a courtesy ride over to the local car rental shop. My vehicle was later totaled by insurance Co., but Doug was willing and ready to repair it to normal. Our truck broke down about 11 miles outside of Tehachapi and we were towed to State Street. Doug and his technicians diagnosed our problem immediately (the hose from the anti-freeze to the right turbo had popped out emptying all of our anti- freeze). We were shown the problem so we could take pictures to show the shop that had just worked on our truck. We had just had our truck in the shop for over a week having the turbos replaced and the hose had not been fully connected by the auto shop that replaced the turbos. Doug and his crew were knowledgeable, willing to answer our questions about the truck, giving us confidence in the truck and getting us back on the road to home. They are very honest and it's been easy to get my car in . I have taken it in twice, once for brakes and once because I was told I needed a new alternator. Both times the repairs were not needed. They could have done the work and charged me and I wouldn't have known the difference. But they were honest and only did the repairs that were needed which was to clean the battery cables and a sensor. I am a single, senior woman and lots of mechanics would take advantage of that. I was in the middle of an 8 hour drive to a special family event. My radiator developed a split and needed to be replaced about halfway through my drive. Fearing I'd have to spend the night or weekend in an unfamiliar location and miss the family event, I was overjoyed with the result. Doug had Nick quickly diagnose the problem, he tracked down the part (for a 20+ year old vehicle to boot), personally drove to exchange and get the correct part, had the radiator repaired and had me out and on my way in less than 3 hours. The price was much less than I anticipated and they got me to the family event with no problems. I felt like I truly owed them more for everything they had done going out of their way for me... but Doug wouldn't take any kind of tip. Traveling 70 mph on I15 from Las Vegas heading to Bakersfield. Almost out of Barstow and approaching Lenwood when my 2020 Honda CRV began smoking. After I reached the bottom of the off ramp, my oil light came on along with a message that I was out if oil. Huh? I had AAA tow the vehicle to Tehachapi and AAA is the one the suggested South Street. Doug was absolutely awesome. He provided his cell phone number so we could easily communicate. Turned out that the oil plug haddisappeared which caused the oil to drain out. South Street could have said there was all kinds of damage, thus running up a bill but they didn't. They simply checked my car to make sure there was no engine damage, replacing a oil plug and adding oil. Easy Peasy. So very honest. I definitely recommend them. In fact even though my house is in Bakersfield, I'd make the 45 minute trip up the mountain to have them service my car in the future. read more

What can I say about this business? Top notch all the way! I broke down due to overheating and was roundabout towed to this AAA endorsed shop. Despite the fact that they were super busy, Doug promised he'd diagnose the problem as soon as he could, which turned out to be almost immediately. Further examination by both Doug and Rick revealed more issues. Calls to auto parts suppliers determined parts couldn't make it to the shop til late afternoon. I booked a hotel room for the night and thought I'd get a taxi or Uber. Unsuccessful on both. So, what do I do? Doug - "I'll give you a lift!". So off we go in his personal vehicle. Above and beyond, I'd say! Of note - I'm no mechanic, but have done my share of repairs to vehicles. Rick is definitely a first rate mechanic.  Spotted an issue with my 20 year old truck I hadn't even noticed. Nothing too severe, but something I'd be taking care of myself down the road. Don't know how he keeps up the pace, but in between Doug answering the phone, checking in new customers, receiving parts and working on my vehicle,  he constantly kept me apprised of what was going on as well as offer anecdotes on old fashioned remedies for on the spot, get out of trouble repairs.  100% recommend this business.
