Took my wife to dinner. First up, counter staff (2 females, one younger one older) seem bored, indifferent and distant, as if preoccupied with who-knows-what, almost like we were a bother. I think it may have annoyed them that we wanted to look at the menu on the wall, though we let another couple go ahead of us while we considered what we wanted. The wife ordered the Chimichanga's and I ordered the Taco Salad. When the younger, petulant faced female brought us the meal, she just casually tossed this chintzy, cheap-as-can be plastic wear onto the table to bounce and skid to a stop. Classy! As we sat there for our plastic wear to be tossed in our general direction, one starts to notice the place is dingy and unkempt, a 'greasy spoon' motif and not of the rustic, charming kind. The kind that says "be careful about touching anything". We were disappointed with both entree's. Bland and uninspired. I've had better Taco salads at a Denny's, and she's had better Chimi's at non "Mexican" restaurants-and frozen- as well (which these probably were). It's too bad, as some people seem to think this place as good food. Perhaps they were famished, or are friends with the Owners, or had their taste buds surgically removed? I wonder how. We saw no indication of it. Our orders were pretty basic Mexican fare and it's sad that better can be had at Taco Smell-I mean, Bell, of which I am not a big fan of. Was staying in town and had barely eaten all day. Starving, I drove up and down the main drag and this was 1 of the only 2 or 3 options in the whole town! But hey, some of the best Mexican food is found at little hole in the walls like this, decided to try them out. The menu here is pretty damn extensive! Pizza, donuts, Mexican, ice cream and some other stuff. I got a California burrito, 2 crispy tacos and a pizza roll up thing I forget exactly what it was called. Barely cost me $10 and it was all pretty great! Being so close to the border I expecting more authenticity, but it was still tasty regardless. Very dirty and run down. I had the sausage pizza and the sausage was bad. Went for a pepperoni and it was ok. On a separate trip I ordered a dozen donuts and a horchata. The lady helping was clearly intoxicated and spilled the horchata on the donuts. She refused to exchange the soggy donuts or transer them to a dry box. After some arguing another employee forced her to make it right. But she put the soggy donuts back on the rack to be sold. The biggest kicker was when she couldn't even count change. Staying in the local RV Park to visit the Sonny Bono Wildlife Refuge brings us here. Outside parked are truckers and workers coming and going. It is a no nonsense local hang. Donuts, Mexican food and Pizza. Surprisingly the Pizza was very homie tasting. No the dough is not hand tossed but for being in the middle of a agricultural area very good.
