Buckshot is a family-owned restaurant and they provide excellent service and great tasting food! A friend and I stayed at Slab City, and enjoyed both dinner and breakfast here. They both hit the spot, and the prices are very reasonable. I highly recommend this one your way in/out of Slab City, or just rolling through Niland. We visited Buckshot with the CVMA on our annual ride to Salton Sea. Vicki was easily able to accompany our large party and the service was excellent! Classic old school friendly roadside diner. Camped at the state park last night, planned on a day of hiking & bird watching today, and I wanted a hearty breakfast. Buckshot Diner in Niland was exactly what I wanted. Friendly service. Great coffee. Constant refills. Menu offers anything you want. Biscuits & gravy is hard to do right, but they nailed it, just right. Trust me, next time I'm going north or south on Highway 111, I'll be stopping at the Buckshot Diner. We went to Salvation Mountain and East Jesus thinking when we were done with the tour there probably wouldn't be a place close by to have lunch. We were wrong! Yelp came up with this wonderful establishment for us and we gave it a try. So happy we did. Best fish and shrimp tacos! And I'm comparing them to the really great tacos I can get in Los Angeles. In the past I've eqten here and enjoyed it quite alot. I am here in 2026 and found the service to be lacking. The waitress gave us a look up and down and treated us poorley compaired to other customers in the reaturuant who happened to be old white men. I ordered a melt and when I received it my first bite tasted like mold. The portions are very small also which has always been the case and which I didnt mind in the past but in this case the vibe was weird and I will not be eating here again. Next trip I'm packing sandwiches. Or visiting the deli in the store next door if I'm hungry. read more

The dude they don't even know English that's serving you. Not only that just for one drink it's $4 and every plate is over $13. And if you order biscuits and gravy it says two biscuits not one biscuit cut in half. So if they're going to sell biscuits and gravy and be cheap about it then just tell him the truth it's only one biscuit cut in half to make a half order which should be 2 full biscuits. read more

Went there with a friend after visiting nearby Slab City. I had the Ortega chili cheeseburger with a side salad. It was excellent, it was a large hamburger bun and the beef patty seemed to almost extend past the bun! My buddy ordered his hamburger with onion rings and he said try these, because I don't normally order onion rings, but I think these were the best I've ever had. Very lightly breaded with an excellent taste. Everyone was very friendly and great service. Wasn't sure how to rate the "atmosphere", it was clean and comfortable. We stopped here on the way back from Salvation Mountain. We knew we were in the right place when our drinks came out--in glasses nearly twice the size of anywhere else. Jamaica, horchata and limonata--all wonderful. Chips and green salsa were tasty. We ordered the Birria Plate, Combination Plate with chile relleno, and the Carne Asada plate. Corn and flour tortillas are homemade, the refried beans have a great smoky taste, and we all ate our plates clean. I would dock 1/2 star because there was no toilet paper in the bathroom, but I let the gentleman know as we were leaving. Overall, we recommend! read more

Wow, food, sevice and the poeple running the place are great. This place is a small gem in the desert adjacent to the Salton Sea. I had a cheesburger and onion rings. My good buddy Jeff had a hamburger. Pretty simple order but tasted like a 5 star resturant quality. The best onion rings I've ever tasted and I'm 73 so you know I've tasted a lot. My family and I stopped by here for lunch after visiting Salvation Mountain. The owner is full of jokes. He likes to ask people coming in if they have a reservation and if not he can help you make one for $50. He also gave my 9 year old son a bill for $180 for our lunch and asked if he was going to pay. When he said no, he game me the actual bill (closer to $55). They give you flour tortilla chips and really good red and green salsa to munch on while you wait for your food. I liked the flavor of the green salsa more - it had a nice smoked flavor. Food takes a while but we all enjoyed what we got. My family ordered the cheeseburger, chicken torta, beef burrito, beef enchilada, and chicken enchilada. We also got the horchata and Jamaica agua Fresca. Soooo refreshing on such a hot day! I had a side salad as well and the iceberg lettuce and cucumbers were fresh and crisp. When we left I asked if he had takeaway cups so we could take the rest of our drinks to go and the owner was so kind, he gave us these humongous cups (think Super Big Gulp size) and refilled them to the brim with more agua fresca and helped me carry them to the car (because my family went to the car first and I couldn't hold both huge cups on my own while holding my leftovers...). This is a nice place to stop for friendly service and good food while touring around the Salton Sea area! Enjoy! read more

I ordered crispy chicken tacos. My other friend preserved carne asada steak soft tacos. The food did take a bit to make, but it's made from scratch! Food came out hot and was full of great taste! The price was amazing! The food was amazing and the service was good. Seating was outdoors because of covid, but the tables are disinfected, staff wears mask and menus are paper. We felt that the restaurant is in the middle of nowhere, but it's actually just 5 minutes from Slab city. Being in the middle of nowhere and it seemed that it was one of the very few in the area, the restaurant has simple setting. Service was quick, restaurant was clean and food was excellent. I didn't expect much but the quality of the food was top notch. I got the Sopes special with the shredded beef and they were incredible. I judge a lot of Mexican restaurants by how good the rice is and the rice here was phenomenal. The server was really cool, none of us were sure what to get and he recommended everything but then told us about the specials they had available. Stopped by this little diner on our way back from Brawley. For lunch they serve a variety of hamburgers, and Mexican dishes. My wife got their Ortega burger, and I their Chile Relleno with rice, beans and 3 corn tortillas. Both were very good with fresh ingredients. Good service! They serve a very large tumbler of ice tea.
