Also signed up for The Real ID License. It was a perfect time of morning by the time I was finished at dmv for a tasty Sausage and Cheese Omelet. Brownies is a friendly place with ok food and pretty much the only game in town. The staff are very nice and friendly. I'll say it did hit the spot. Walking in to this diner I had such high hopes thinking this places has been around so long they've got to know what they are doing!! Wrong!! The ham and cheese omelet was anemic. Discount for veterans -- Don't believe it. My wife and I took her Father here for his birthday yesterday. When I went to pay, I asked the lady at the register if there is a discount for seniors? The answer was no. So then I asked if there is a discount for veterans? The answer was yes, a 10% discount. So I showed my CA Driver's License and my DD214 (U.S. Army discharge document). I was told "We don't take that". I told the lady, "Look, here's my name, I was a sergeant in the Army, I shot expert with the M-14 rifle"...she said, "I'm not going look at it or read it. We only take the military kind of ID". Then she reminded me what the full amount was. So, of course, I paid it. Now even though I'm very unhappy about my nearly fatal service to our country being denied, I still have to say that the food was good and the service, from others, was excellent. That's why there are two stars here instead of one. Later I was told that this lady is related to the owners somehow and has been there for more than twenty years. Brawley is a popular stop on the big old Interstate drive. We hadn't had success with previous food stops here and we almost went by. Since we were very hungry we lucked out and found Brownie's! It's been a week since we were there, but I still remember the great coffee, the crispy bacon and the very friendly service. What to say. We had a mixed experience. The server was very friendly. The water tasted off (my wife described it as moldy) Her chili colorado burrito was tasty. Picture perfect diner in the heart of Brawley. Definitely has a 'locals' vibe to it. Friendly, helpful staff quick to refill your coffee mug. Love that. We stopped in on a weekday morning around 11 to find the place nice and busy but with quick service. We had a simple plate of pancakes for hubby. Sounds simple enough but not all pancakes are good. These were outstanding. Fluffy and flavorful. Same with the waffles with sausage and egg side. Simple but excellent. The menu features your standard diner fare with the addition of a fantastic assortment of authentic Mexican dishes as well. Looking forward to trying their chili verde and their machaca plate. We had heard this was the spot for a great steak. We decided to check it out on Father's day. Their steaks are from a local butcher and you definitely get a great quality steak. All of the food came out fresh and hot flavored perfect. My dad who is always the hardest to win over on a new steak place even enjoyed the meal and definitely said he will return. Last year I wrote a review of my dining experience at Brownie's Diner, which was unbelievable. To celebrate New Years eve, my buddy Dan and I enjoyed a fine breakfast at Brownie's, including birote, and some of the best menudo that we've ever eaten! You enter the restaurant through a small entryway, with double doors, to keep out the scorching heat during the summer and the desert sand. The dining room is quite spacious, and furnished with tables. Booths line the walls, and the dining room is decorated with movie memorabilia, posters and photos of movie stars, and some are autographed by movie stars who have enjoyed a great meal at Brownie's. The "Mexican Favorites" section of the menu is quite compact, but covers all of the bases. Note that menudo is served every day. This isn't you "rico menudo," as this is some of the best menudo that I can every remember of enjoying! The only changes in the menu, from my previous visits are the prices... From the "Mexican Favorites" section of the breakfast menu, both of us ordered menudo, as Dan and I have loved menudo all of our lives. Your bowl of menudo comes with all the garnishes, including cilantro, chopped onion, oregano, crushed red pepper, sliced lemon, and a stack of corn tortillas. The menu offers to substitute birote instead of tortillas, for a nominal fee, so we went that route, as neither of had ever tasted birote. Yes, that's an order of birote next to the bowl of menudo. We were absolutely STUNNED by the menudo... as both of agreed that it was some of the best menudo we'd ever eaten, and my friend and I have been eating menudo all of our lives, on both sides of the border. Each bowl of this delicious stew contained the perfect ratio of tripe and hominy, and the broth was flavorful, savory, and absolutely amazing! Words can't describe how delicious a bowl of Brownie's menudo is... Perhaps the location of Brownie's Diner has something to do with it, as Brawley is just 20 miles north of the Mexican border. I can truly state that Brownie's serves better menudo than I've enjoyed during countless trips to Mexico. If you love fine menudo, a visit to Brownie's is a go-to destination. The coffee is delicious as well... We went with the optional birote, which was a first for both of us. Just for the record, a birote is a sourdough roll, similar to a bolillo or a baguette, with it's origins in the city of Guadalajara, during the French occupation of Mexico in the 1860's. Our birote arrived cut in half, toasted and buttered, which made a great side to the menudo. It's crunchy on the outside, and tender fluffy on the inside, and tastes almost like a sourdough roll. We tore off chunks of the bread and dipped them into the savory menudo broth. Oh yeah! Brownie's Diner, located in Brawley, CA, is a destination for "foodies," and for all those who appreciate the best American and Mexican diner cuisine. This restaurant deserves ALL the stars. My dad came to visit me, and we decided to try Brownie's Diner for breakfast. We wanted some comfort food, and that's exactly what we got! The portions are more than enough, the prices are friendly, and the food is spectacular. The service was great- all the waitresses and waiters were talkative and attentive. The ambiance is everything a diner should be, and there was hardly a wait considering how busy the place was. Definitely a snowbird destination. I strongly recommend the biscuits and gravy. I stopped by on a recommendation from a friend who grew up in Brawley. Returning to LA from Yuma on our annual dove hunting trip, it was right on the way home. Looks like this will now be our annual stop for food when going home. The staff are very attentive and the food was top notch. It was a Sunday around lunch time and was pretty busy, but got sat right away. Juanita and Gabe are the nicest people and had time to stop and chat with us and welcome us to their establishment. Stopped in on our way back from Glamis. We are visiting from out of town and usually prefer stopping at places like this rather than chain restaurants or fast food joints. The atmosphere was great with the spots memorabilia and older movie posters, concert posters, etc. They have some really neat stuff here! We were also pleasantly surprised at the menu options and the variety. The service was great and they definitely made us feel welcome. Whatever you choose in the menu, you won't go wrong. I heard them say the kitchen closes at 3pm so make sure you're there in time. If we're ever in the area again, we will definitely stop here! read more

It seems either the reviews of this business are 5 stars or 1 star. Not a lot of in between. Surprisingly, I'm shocked that there aren't a ton of 1-2 star ratings. I've been coming to this place for years. Not because the foods great or the service is super. I come here for basically two reasons. First is the parking lot has great visibility from the dining area. When I have a load of firewood and jugs of fuel for the sand dunes, I can watch my truck making sure nobody helps themselves to my stuff. The second reason is that I've eaten at practically every restaurant in Brawley, including the fast food places and they are all horrible. I had breakfast at Brownies a few days ago and it was the same deal. Food arrived cold. They give you one slice of bread cut in half for your side of toast with your omelette. One slice of bread. I've never ever seen that in any cafe. No jelly or jam, no cream for your coffee. It's just a low quality hole in the wall with some crap food. It's convenient and it's easy in and out. It's over priced but if you are hungry and just don't feel like preparing a meal in your RV at Glamis, what the hell. Just know what you are getting before you drop by. So today I went into Brownies for Father's day, I was served by a lady however the girl who filled our drinks and cleaned our table was so nice! I believe her name was Aleesa? I wish we could have left a tip for her as well. Not really sure how that work, if it goes to the server or the side server. I had tried their pancakes and I thought they were pretty good, nice and fluffy. The chocolate milk is good as well. Overall a good diner and will visit again! read more

First time ever visiting Brownies Diner. The ambiance is hole in the wall with old sports paraphernalia and they had Fox News on the TVs. Place looks dated and in need of restoration. "Frank's Chicken and Waffles" - chicken had a freezer burnt taste, was extremely dry and over cooked. They were bone in (chicken drum, thigh, and breast). They serve the chicken in the side so it isn't even appetizing to look at. Don't count on fresh hot waffles. They use the pre-made bagged waffles from Costco. Super sugary and taste more like cake. "Ground Sirloin Steak and Eggs" - The sirloin steak was well seasoned and a good size. It comes plain but I asked for grilled onion and mushrooms to it. The mushrooms were canned and very salty. I asked for a well steak, and I got well; however, I asked for over medium eggs and got over cooked eggs, no yummy runny egg to dip my one piece of toast in. The toast didn't come with any butter (only one packet of strawberry jelly) so I used leftover butter from the waffle. The hash browns were undercooked and cold so you could taste the old oil in them. They use frozen hash browns. You can tell they raised the prices because they crossed out old prices right in the old menu. So this dish used to be $13 but now they charge $17. That huge spike was common for most of there dishes. "Menudo" - It's not home made. My guess is "Juanita's" brand in a can menudo. I can get three #10 cans of that for the price they charged me for a bowl. All things considered, this place has poor quality food and extremely high prices. It seems the owner has given up quality and cleaning standards. I felt tricked into paying high prices for what was basically pre-made cafeteria food. It's disappointing when places like this take advantage of customers' ignorance and the fact that they are the only "breakfast" in Brawley. I would have had a better experience at a McDonald's drive thru even if they got my order wrong. On a positive note, the waitress was very polite and honest. She replaced my eggs and they were much better. Also, she removed all the horrible inedible food from my bill. We won't be back. Update* I've been lying in bed for the last 4 hours with severe stomach pain and other "stuff." Haven't been able to eat since this meal. I suspect food poisoning. read more

My sister, Fatima, and I stopped here while we were waiting for Dollar Tree to open. (Doesn't that sound weird? We wanted to get cheap decorations for Christmas.) Sunday morning, parking lot is full. Good sign. We walk in and immediately are taken aback by a picture of Main Street from years ago. 50s? 60s? In any case, some parts of Main Street haven't changed much. I was shocked to see the memorabilia on the walls and the commemorative plates. There wasn't an open spot on the walls to be seen. The flat screen TV on the wall didn't even really stand out. There was a counter with movable chairs (not bolted down) right inside, to the right. In the center, several smaller tables were put together, There was enough "table space" there to sit 20 people, easily. We sat along the wall. Our waiter came quickly enough. He brought our drinks and put in our order quickly. He came by a few times, while we ate. (Funny thing was that we saw him 10 minutes later in Dollar Tree. I think he went to spend the tip I left him :) My sister and I both ordered the chorizo and eggs. She got hers with hash browns. I got mine with beans, of course. We both looked at each other after the first bite. We had come down to the Valley to finally bury the remains of our grandparents. The chorizo tasted just like the way that my grandmother used to make it. It took me back and made me smile. I got the corn tortillas and my sister got the flour. 2 tortillas is not quite enough, if you have beans and eggs, for hash browns, I think it was enough. My tea was good and my sister drank all her coffee. I would be back. I saw the burrito and it looked good. I may not come to Brawley often, but I will make it a point to stop here again. read more

If you get there at breakfast time, then have their biscuits and gravy. This is the best anywhere. The biscuits are homemade and fresh and the sausage gravy is more sausage than gravy. Wonderful! Now, if you get there at lunch time, they make the best Chimichanga in the world. I live in Mexico. I have eaten lots of Chimichangas. Brownie's are the best. We get the chicken; they also make beef. One small point: we take our own salsa. That is probably only a personal preference. read more
