Went on a whim - quite literally just saw a sign that said "bakery" from across the street and drove over - and am so glad I did. Absolutely fantastic donuts and baked goods. Plenty of variety with something for everybody, and all solid quality. The interior had a good amount of seating available, and gave the classic old school bakery vibe. A wonderful old-fashioned bakery that is a Lexington staple! Most known for their donuts, they are as good as they come! I've tried so many over the years and can say I've never had a bad donut here! I recently went in to order donuts for a gender reveal and the baker was able to fill a couple donuts with colored cream to indicate baby's gender- which was so fun and delicious! I went to Donut Days to buy my co-workers an after-Thanksgiving treat. I am not a pastry connoisseur. There is no menu available, so I apologized when the woman came to the window. I had to ask her (very friendly looking older lady) about item names and 3 specific requests. The first were apple fritters and the second was a jelly-filled (rasberry?) donut with a white-icing on top. The third was chocolate-icing with creme-filled donut. She nodded with apple fritter request. To the 2nd request, she replied, "I only have jelly-filled glazed." And, to the third request, she said, "Long-Johns?" I answered, "Yeah, that sounds right!" I asked her for a dozen of the glazed jelly-filled, 6 of the apple fritters, and 6 of the long-johns. The order came to a little over $42.00. Everyone was surprised that I actually picked up something other than biscuits! Unfortunately, the main request was the apple fritters. There were 4 people that requested them specifically. One person had asked for the chocolate creme-filled. One of my co-workers bit into her apple-fritter and said "Ow!" I won't go into the whole exchange, but it turns out that the pastry was extremely hard and burned. I asked 2 others that got the fritters and they said that theirs were burnt as well and not very good. Like I said at the beginning, I'm not a pastry connoisseur. However, I do know my trade and if I were a baker or a bakery employee, I would have easily seen the burnt edges and bottom of the pastry that indicated they were over cooked. Stopped at Donut Days for, what else, donuts, and I needed bread. There was a single loaf of salt rise bread, so I purchased that, a jelly donut and two glazed. The aroma in my car tempted me, but I resisted until I reached home. Growing up, jelly donuts were one of my faves. We had driven through and gotten coffee elsewhere, and we wanted a sweet breakfast treat, so we opted for this spot. It's kind of no frills, with a simple drive-thru and no real menu to check out. We asked for options and they handed us a paper menu to look at in our car. They have the usual bakery options, with lots of doughnut flavors, but the thing that really got me was the prices. Everything is SO cheap. Doughnuts are around a dollar. Unbelievable! We opted for a few different flavors. While these doughnuts are no frills compared to those you'd get from a specialty spot where you choose your glaze/icing and then add on ridiculous amounts of unique toppings, they are simply delicious! In Lexington for a day and was lucky to be staying in a hotel next door to what is clearly an old school local institution. Nothing pretentious or fancy - in the best way. After having such a good experience at the Donut Days on Euclid, I wanted to give this place another try. The first time I had Donut Days, it was just ok and nothing special, so I wrote it off. Sadly, my return trip here didn't enhance my idea of Donut Days. The service there is nice and it's a diner kind of motif, with all the donuts in the back and in a case to choose from, so I got my haul and got home to try them out. The donuts were ok. One of the weaker donuts was the pumpkin spice donut, which didn't have a very pumpkin flavor to it. The caramel glazed also didn't have a decent caramel taste to it. The custard filled and the cream filled donuts made up for them slightly, but there still wasn't anything special about them. In the future, I will stick with the Euclid location, but do hope the Southland Dr will work on their donuts a little harder. read more

If there ever was a "dive" bakery, this would be it. Small, hole-in-the-wall, old fashioned little gem on Southland drive. A few old men that are always there chatting over coffee every time I go in. The donuts are nothing fancy, but are down to earth, all-American, gosh darn tasty little treats. The caramel donuts are definitely on top of my list. You gotta try them! However, the biggest reason that always brings me back here is the friendliness of the staff and the amazing attitude of the owner. Last time I went there I found out they don't take credit cards for small transactions which is totally fine because most places do that. What surprised me was that the lady behind the desk offered to let me pay the next time I came in (even though she had never met me before). This is a small gesture but it goes a long way towards displaying the trust the owner puts in his customers. When you're in here they really do treat you with respect. With cupcake shops springing up faster than pop-tarts from a toaster, there are many options to choose from. However, I frequently find myself less than happy with some of these gourmet concoctions. Some have so much much frosting that you could decorate a four layer cake with the excess. Then others have a frosting so thin that it slides off the sides as soon as it's removed from refrigeration. And don't get me started on the bland and dry cake part. That's why I was pleasantly surprised when I stumbled into Donut Days looking for emergency cupcakes for a birthday party I had neglected to plan for. I was expecting to pay out the wazoo for 24 specialty cupcakes. Most places I called could not even fill my last minute request. I walked into Donut Days on a whim and was excited to see that they had plenty of their large cupcakes in the display. These were well decorated cakes with a perfect mound of piped frosting and sprinkles where appropriate. The flavors on that day included strawberry, carrot cake, vanilla, chocolate, and something with a caramel icing. Not only did these cupcakes look great, but they tasted amazing. Everyone at the party assumed that these had come from some fancy bakery. The best part is that the cupcakes didn't cost $3 or more like in most specialty shops. These large, tasty, treats only cost $1.25 each. The next time I need cupcakes I will definitely order them from Donut Days. read more

Love. This. Place. My hometown favorite, hands down. Try some of their seasonal donuts, as well as the normal selection. Blueberry, apple cider, stuff like that. My favorite, though, is a still-warm cinnamon cake. They melt in your mouth. And the coffee is solidly good. Side note: The cakes are awesome, too. The cake decorator does an excellent job making cakes to request. Side Side Note: They have rolls in the freezer that are really good for dinner. Especially the ones you put ham in to make little sandwiches. But you have to ask because they don't normally have them sitting out in the open.
