They offer drive thru service of you can go inside and order. You don't order at the intercom system, you go to the window to place your order. I was able to place an order, get my doughnut and leave. They prefer cash, but if you have a card, you can use that, with a convience fee. I ordered an old fashion, but the young lady at the window stated they don't have those, they only had buttermilk doughnuts. It tasted like an old fashion to me, so i was happy. Wife and I was just in there 7:30 am today 11/3/24....woman not so friendly. No "hello" or "can I help you". The older black lady with braids and a big diamond cluster ring, she was so unfriendly and clearly heard my wife say that she wanted a vanilla long John. This place's donuts are so good! When I first walked in around 7 am, I only bought two. The woman behind the counter asked me if I was sure I wanted only two. I told her yes since it's my first time visiting this donut shop; then a customer behind me said, "oh, you'll be back!" Was this customer right! I ordered a what seemed to be an oversized glazed twist and a cinnamon swirl. What can I say about these donuts? Honestly words seem to escape me. I'm not sure if I can accurately explain what these donuts taste like, but I have to comment on the soft, sweet, fluffy, sponginess of their donuts; which was just amazing. The donuts are made fresh and hot every morning! In Japan there's a saying among true bakers, it goes something like "a well baked bread will restore its shape." I was told this basically means if you press the bread gently and it springs back to its original shape, it's good bread. If the bread retains the indentation, it's not the best. The second time I returned was a few days ago around 10 am and there was hardly anything left! I ordered another colossal glaze twist looking donut for the second time; with all of its soft, sweet, fluffy, sponginesses. I have been going to Donut Delight for 20 years , Always wonderful. Some serious advice to the new management. Get your construction work done inside. Your seating area has been torn up too long and makes the shop seem shabby. Then please make more in the way of danishes. You never have what I want, and I don't settle for something else. North County staple, it's like being at home. Donut Delight has been around since I was a wee lad and have historically been the best donuts ever and still is. This place is a blast from the past as they do not take anything but cash, no credit and no debit. Donuts are made fresh daily. I am a glazed twist fanatic. I am jealous we don't have donuts like this where I live. Every time I drive from Central Illinois to STL, I see this place and miss the exit. That all changed last week when I drove my son to the airport. We stopped on the way back and I felt like a kid in a candy store. I think I heard heavenly music playing and a soft glowing light illuminated the goodies. I came home with an assortment of delicious HOLEY treats and a few apple fritters that were perfectly iced. The baker left a small patch of fritter un-iced. CRISPY! My favorites were the plain ones because they reminded me off the fried old-fashioned ones I used to get back home in California. Sooooo sorry for not doing this sooner! I guess I should explain why this place is amazing. I have noticed this place for years since I've been passing by here countless times. It wasn't until I started working out in West County in January and stopping close by for gas that I really started to think about stopping. And in my panic to not speed up my post collegiate swimming career weight gain, I held off on stopping in for far too long. That was until my temp position days were were coming to an end rather quickly and I thought I wouldn't be stopping at my trusty Mobil next door as often. Then lo and behold Stephen gets a full time job. Since then I have been in too many times to count. The building must be a converted fast food restaurant that failed. They kept all the original seating and walls. Its, for use of a better word, "tits"! Reminds me of the Hardees we used to frequent way too often, that is across the street from good ole St. Ambrose. Takes me back... So I'm going to go with its an old Hardees. They even use the drive thru. I'v only gone through twice. I enjoy watching my donut being taken out of the case and taking a seat among the reitrees (if time permits) too much. The biggest reason they are awesome. I didn't realize the coconut one was going to be 80 cents as opposed to the 50 cents that most of them are (the menu board always has me confused, I can be rather slow). So when I walked in with my four quarters for two donuts. I was met with a surprise. And then the friendly donut server girl met me with another. She told me to pay her back next time I came in! I really hope that means I'm a regular! Well I'll be seeing her Tuesday after I fill up my gas tank. Better start thinking about what to get them for Xmas...
