Donut Palace is a no frills mom & pop shop located in the heart of Buda Downtown. I ordered the Sausage Croissant Sandwich along with two Sausage & Cheese Kolaches all for under $10. The breading on the kolaches was perfect and the croissant sandwich was exactly what I needed to start my day. Their bacon, egg and cheese Croissant sandwich is my favorite and the kids love the kolaches and donut holes. Holy cow! I think I've found my new favorite donut spot! I am so sorry for not getting any pictures--the donuts were devoured the moment we got them! Haha. This spot was recommended by the hotel so we figured we'd give it a try and now we live with the regret that we only bought two donuts. One glazed and one old fashioned. Omg. Total delish. Seriously, Shipley's and Dunkin don't come close. These were buttery, fresh and just the right blend of soft and firm, and not overly sweet. Just really well made donuts that taste like they came out of someone's kitchen, not a factory. The kind where you're mad you didn't grab a box. If you go early, just a heads up that parking on Main Street is tight. You may or may not get a spot right out front, but that's fine because the area's actually really cute. There are lots of vintage and antique stores around to window shop while you walk back to your car. Already planning to go back and try more next time. Lesson learned: always buy more than two. read more

I came here two days in a row because I had a training nearby! I Was So excited That the man gave fresh warm donuts each day! I really liked the flavor of their items! The sausage kolaches were delicious! They having parking in the back if it's hard to park in the front. I was super happy to stop and eat breakfast here and they are super friendly! The donuts from here are pretty tasty, and just a buck apiece! It's nice to have somewhere I can stop before heading home after a quick run downtown in the morning to treat myself without paying an arm and a leg (becoming more and more rare these days). You can park in the front or the back. The front is of course a challenge because you'll have to back out onto Main St. which can get quite trafficky/backed up, or be stuck hunting for a spot if its the weekend since folks like to tour the old downtown Saturday and Sundays (or when there's events). Though if you drive one of those BIG TEXAS TRUCKS I would not recommend parking in the back: it's a small gravel lot, so you'll need a good turning radius to utilize it easily. Plenty of variety of donuts/pastries to choose from, though I always go with something CHOCOLATE! The staff seem friendly and efficient too, which is nice. =) read more

I cannot give this business enough stars. We were visiting from out of town and had never had kolaches. The sweet woman behind the counter took her time explaining each and every type to us (the small jalapeño sausages & cheese are the best!) Tags told us this is a small family run business that she's tan for 10+ years! My boyfriend and I both chose two at first, took a seat on the pictured bench and experienced magic. One we scarfed those 4 down, we looked at each other and decided we had to go back in for more! We each got a few more and the woman behind the counter even gave us some donut holes! The large jalapeño sausage kolache is made with a jalapeño sausage, while the small jalapeño sausage kolache has a sausage with sliced jalapeños and is much spicer (but very delcious). The ham kolache is sliced ham, rather than lunch meat or chunks. My boyfriend and his brother went back the next morning and bought for the whole family, she recognized them, thanked them for their patronage, and of course gave them more donut holes! read more

This place is great!!!! It's a normal looking donut place but OMG the quality is amazing. How do they DO IT? I think I walked in during a time that they were supposed to be closed but they still let me purchase 3 donuts and an egg and sausage biscuit. Very nice of them to do that. I'm half way through the egg and sausage biscuit and it's just so delicious. The croissant that it is on is fresh and flaky and buttery, it has so much flavor. She warmed it up too before giving it to me. Mmmm I'm sure it made a huge difference. I demolished a strawberry glazed sprinkled donut before I could even take a picture, so worth it. I'm about to dive into a blueberry donut and I also thoroughly am enjoying a cream filled donut. The cream has a slightly lemony flavor which I'm not digging, but it's still wonderful. This may be biased since it's the only donut place in Buda but that doesn't stop it from still being the best! Service - it's a nice, family owned shop. I always feel like family when I'm in there and somehow end up with a few extra donut holes in the to go bag (). Selection - they've got just about everything you could ask for from a donut shop like this. It's nothing like VoodDoo, where you load up the poor pastry with crazy toppings. Don't mess with a good thing! Quality - these might be simple donuts but some places still manage to skimp on quality. No matter what time of morning I come, they still taste fresh. We go in for doughnuts here often. My son plays football and, when there is a victory the night before, there are celebratory doughnuts and chocolate milk for he and his best friend the next morning from me. The kids and I also go in on Saturday mornings from time to time. The staff here is always so friendly and kind. I wouldn't recommend that anyone get a breakfast taco at a doughnut shop... go to Buda Grocery a block away for that; this is a doughnut shop. THE BEST DONUTS EVER!!!! We were visiting from out of town - we love to find a good donut shop for breakfast when traveling. My husband found this adorable shop run by the nicest people. It was so good we went back the next day! Buy a dozen so you can taste all they have to offer. This place is owned by the same Chinese family who owns Kyle City Doughnuts which is also a Chinese Restaurant. First of all, these people can not make a breakfast taco to save their lives. It is not hard at all to make them. My 12 year can make them, no problem. The doughnuts are not bad. I have had worse doughnuts before. The older Chinese lady who runs the place needs to be a little more personal. She was very curt. There is not much of a selection here. You are better off a Shipley's in Kyle. read more

Went in here to get my niece a birthday breakfast and the lady slipped the cashier cash on the table to pay it forward to my niece for her food with a sweet note on top. We ordered and I looked at the cash for her to use it to pay for our food but she pretended not to understand me and crumbled up the note the lady left on top of the cash and the cashier kept it...I couldn't believe it but of course I still paid. Unfortunately I have to give it one star just so I can make a review... and it's mostly based off there mediocre coffee (the horrible, stale, greasy doughnuts and terrible service can be written in a whole 'nother review.) for one thing, there medium coffee was at best a small, ok I'll take it. But Did it taste like coffee? Not really. And if that isn't enough, perhaps the lack of coffee creamer can be disclosed as a real issue. Powdered creamer? You can try harder than that! My wife and I visited this establishment this past Sunday. Bought two mediocre donuts and presented a $ 10 bill to pay for the $ 1.40 charge. The man behind the cash register put the bill in the drawer and gave me change for a five. I remained at the counter with all of the change he had given me until I could get his attention. I explained that I had given him a $10 bill. Without missing a beat, he replied that I had only given him a $5 bill, and when I told him it was a ten, he opened the cash register without looking at me - reached into the fives, pulled one out and said "Only gave me a five" and then walked away without even looking me in the eye. I love this place. The woman who works the counter, and I believe owns it, is extremely nice. The donuts are always fresh and always taste delicious.
