I would like to share my experience at Shipley's today 6/7. Unfortunately, the customer service I received in the drive-thru was very disappointing. If you are going to have someone working the drive-thru, they should have a positive attitude and provide basic customer service. The employee assisting me, a lady with glasses and a ponytail, appeared unhappy, did not greet me, and had very little communication throughout the transaction. When she handed me my order of five items, she did not even provide a bag. The kolaches were delicious, as always, but the customer service was not up to par. The negative attitude and lack of friendliness really impacted my experience and put a damper on my day. I know Shipley's can do better, and I hope this feedback helps improve future customer experiences. This version keeps your frustration clear while remaining professional and more likely to be taken seriously by management. read more

So I am so sad to say except for blueberry cake -- and kinda sorta the glazed...everything else is still just terrible. The kolaches are flat out inedible. Still such a shame...this and TWO other locations it's all the same garbage but all three places have such lovely, sweet and kind workers..but there needs to be a MASSIVE overhaul in the cooking mechanisms/processes , recipes, or both. I have a few friends in town for F1 and they wanted donuts for breakfast. Where else do you go?? It's an added bonus that it's two minutes from my house. I wish I was a sweets person because every donut looked amazing!! I got a cheese/jalapeño kolache. (Not pictured because it was in my belly so fast) ;) My friend stuffed two donuts in his face hole and brought the other two for the car ride out to the track. Feel sorry to leave this because the owner was working hard in the back but couldn't let it go. When I first walk in I have one of the girls at the counter look at me several times before even tell me to come to the front when I was waiting patiently. I walk up and was greeted with a long yawn. The customer service from this woman was awful, she got my order wrong. Then proceeded to stair at the receipt while I wrote a tip, then doesn't even say thank you after I left a tip and just walked off because she wasn't happy with it. Love me some Shipley donuts. I have been coming here for years and the quality continues and makes me want to continue coming here. I have visited many donut places in my life and around Austin. I still think Shipley has the best donuts around, especially if they are fresh. The kolaches are amazing and their cake donuts are second to none. The staff here has always been top notch. The owner does a great job at keeping the place staffed and the teams well trained. Normally friendly, kind, and engaging. Let me be clear, this is the Shipley location to visit. Stay far away from the new location on Menchaca and William Cannon. Worst service. Terrible donuts. Kolaches are a joke. Not sure what they decided to deviate from the standard. Super disappointing. I go out of my way to go to the Brodie location and skip the William cannon location. Highly recommend this location. read more

It's been awhile since I've had me some good ole shipley's but it did not disappoint . After trying to pick up 4 dozen chocolate / glaze donuts for work across the street and basically being turned away, I drove through the drive thru and was served quickly with hot donuts !! The place was hopping of course at 7am but it moved quickly and my device was prompt ! I grabbed a cream cheese donut for myself which was a new one for me and man, it was great!! Let me just tell you this story about why my wife is considering a divorce, possibly living in a tent in the back yard this holiday weekend, and thanks to Shipley's sausage, egg, and cheese kolache it just might happen I went to the bank down the street today. My boy little Rooster knows where the donuts are. I mean two blocks away he is saying "donut?". I pulled in and ordered a glazed and a sausage, cheese, jalapeno. I ended up with the SEC instead. We went about our business of the Zilker train, and various shopping adventures. Then the gas appeared, then became UNCONTROLLABLE. I then recalled that the only time I ever ordered the mentioned kolache this happened. It won't happen again. EVER! Say your some business guy trying to make the bosses happy with some snacks at the Friday meeting; better be a quick meeting. Forget that 5 hour perspectives on some initiative. First timer so we ordered a dozen. We ordered two blueberry and two raspberry jelly. There was little to no jelly in the blueberry in a large cavern inside. The raspberry had more but not super jelly donut like filling. The apple fritter and cinnamon roll was ok but lacked flavor. The chocolate cake donut was a miss. The best one we had was the chocolate coconut. This was super chocolaty with coconut topping. Lastly, my favorite is a maple donut. This one had zero flavor was light and tasted washed out. KC Donuts maple which is across the street blows this one away. We did order a sausage kolache. It was all dough with a tiny sausage inside. Terrible. They were out of han & cheese. Sorry. Shipley's is consistently solid. Usually load up on plain glazed, because at the end of the day, there's really no beating a classic. This one has a drive through, huge bonus during corona. Overdue update for a place that should have countless check-ins from us! This Shipley's is in our 'hood. We frequent them a lot: know busy times, better times to walk-in vs do drive-thru, and what/when they might be out of what we want to order. Yes, we've had incorrect orders, FYI (do check orders -especially for kolaches- before leaving). I met the franchise owner Steve many years ago, around opening. He's the coolest guy and wants to deliver the best, period. He's established an incredible team: from making donuts and kolaches to the delivery. From an outsider, this Shipley's feels like a family-run business through & through. As I prefer to give good ratings and to support local business owners, I was tempted to give serious negative stars for the visit this morning. Why did I not? 1. I assumed the person handling the drive-thru was new (I was correct). Response: In theory, customers should give a new person a break. Biz-wise, manager should know busy times and the difference of "need" during these times -planning/training accordingly. Bottom-line, before work/school: "everyone" is in a rush (put your best/fastest at the drive-thru!). 2. Yes, I stopped by later the same day to talk with Steve and shared our disappointing experience this morning. Don't know if he really "heard" that the timed 23-minute wait for 4 cars in front of me was literally timed. Yes, this morning averaged of over 5 minutes per vehicle. Normally, it's a lot less (2-3 minutes per), and on weekends, they often send out an order-taker to facilitate delivery. Yes, I understand new staff and school/work "big" orders"- don't know how many of these were "big orders" before the car in front of us (1-2 donuts and 1/2 dozen kolaches or less from what I saw delivered - um yeah just shy of 5 minutes from when they pulled up to the window). 3. I prefer to give the benefit of the doubt - as in, new person at the window. Upon our turn, feedback to the new person: Please don't take the time to comment on things hanging from my rearview mirror (yes, thank you, but I've been waiting to order for 23 minutes), please consider filling my coffee cup last vs first so it's hot, and please label the box (of different kolaches). Again, she's new (& everyone needs the opportunity to learn!). Can't "dog" this Shipley's for 1 experience with someone new at the window/drive-thru! I absolutely encourage all to give this Shipley's location a visit: more times than not, you'll be happy/fully satisfied! Our disappointing experience this morning is not the norm! 4 stars for Shipley's on Brodie. Eager to elevate this to 5, but currently deserving of 4 only. (Advice to the manager: Consistent correctness of our order and continued speedy drive-thru experience will bump y'all up to 5 stars!) Hopeful future & positive update/check-in! I grew up with a Shipley's near my home and it was always just ok and I still feel that way about it. It had been a long time since I had been. I saw a picture of Obama on the internet carrying a box of donuts and I wanted some. HAHA I know I can be easily influenced by food. I wanted to go to another spot, but the husband wanted Shipley's. I gave in on this one. I ordered an apple fritter and a cream cheese donut. I wasn't a fan of the apple fritter. It was a little too flat and I thought it needed more apple pieces. The cream cheese one was a little better for me, but it wasn't like real cream cheese - more like cream cheese icing. I wasn't a fan. Now the reason I give them 3 stars in stead of 2 is because of their meat kolaches. I had a bite of the big earl and it good. I also split the boudin kolache and it was my favorite thing I had. I recommend their kolaches, but I would skip the donuts. read more

The once fluffy, sweet white filling has been replaced with a runny flavorless icing-like substance that would surely make the original Mr. Shipley blush with embarrassment. I used to love Shipley, but F this filthy place. If you're serving food but not enforcing masks for employees or customers at this point in Year 3 of Covid, you suck. The older guy behind the counter was not wearing a mask. Younger employees were. Customers were not. This is consistent with a previous visit months ago. I walked out. Back in my car, I removed my mask and was hit with the vile odor of rancid oil. This was at 9:30 am, which does not bode well for those donuts. My clothes reeked after being in the store for less than 30 seconds and are now in the wash. Yes, in general, donuts are not healthy, but you have to change the frying oil more than once a week. I grew up spending my summers with my Czech Grandparents in East Texas. What does this have to do with Shipley? Nothing except that they serve warm moist sweet and yeasty Kolaches! These are not the Kolaches I grew up on and they suck it compared to the ones at The Czech Stop in West or the Kolache Depot in Ennis. But, this Shipley is 5 minutes from my house and they open at 4AM! The Sausage Cheese Kolaches are my favorite. The sausage has a great flavor but the savory to sweet yeasty bread ratio is way out of proportion as you can see from my photo. And, this might sound like an odd solution for the excessive yeasty bread but the Sausage Kolache goes great with my homemade Blackberry Jam:) read more
