Unfortunately, everything that Phil S. said is true. I know it is hard to ever compete with Mr. Bill's donuts, as they were the best I have ever tasted in my entire life. I also bought donuts shortly after the ownership changed, and they just weren't the same, including the price which had jumped quite a bit. Like Phil, I allowed for a grace period, as there had been many negative reviews and surely I expected the new owners to learn something from customers' critiques. I gave them another try this morning. Not only were the donuts stale and worse/weird tasting than my first purchase, but they are now unbelievably tiny!! Literally 3" across. Is it a smaller donut or a larger donut hole? Couldn't tell. 18 of these "donuts" would easily fit into Mr. Bill's box designed for a dozen! And to make matters worse, they are continuing to use the same boxes as the former owners, which claim the donuts are hand-cut and fresh! All true for Mr. Bill's donuts, but all false advertisement for the current business. My family will also never, ever return. Another wonderful Severna Park gem is now gone. read more

Ok, I will start with - I'm pregnant and I really wish this place was closer to Baltimore. Best 3 things about it - it's open 24 hours - or at least until 2 am I believe, they make everything from scratch, so it's super fresh, and they serve soups and all which are just as good as the pastries. Just left this establishment without making a purchase. I was told that this establishment has the best donuts in town. I was eager to see just how awesome they were. I looked at the pastry case and at the donut racks to see what I would like to order. The staff asked if I was ready to order I kindly advised that I needed a few minutes to look. Shortly after that a older lady asked if she could help me and my mother, we proceeded to ask some of the names of the pastries in the case and she responded in a very rude and nasty tone after we had to ask twice about one item because we couldn't hear her the 1st time. Her response immediately turned me off to this place. My advise to this establishment, if you do not want customers asking questions every pastry item should have a name tag. Another option would be to print menus with names and descriptions to limit customer questions. This lady made if very clear that she did not want to answer any questions. The Donut Shack left me with the impression that they do not want any new customers in there establishment. I will not be returning to the Donut Shack. read more

I occasionally stop by on Sunday mornings to pick up a couple dozen donuts for my Sunday school class. I think the carry out service is good and I have never been disappointed with the quality of the donuts. I recommend this place. They make all their donut varieties fresh every night starting around 9:00PM and finishing up around 5:00AM the following morning. I also like supporting a local business. Heard on the radio this morning that today was National Donut Day... You know what that means! A trip to Donut Shack and four donuts later... (Yes, four, I'm so ashamed) let me just say that, OMG their donuts are dangerously delicious. I know there's a pie place called that, but whatever. The Strawberry Shortcake donut was outstanding. The Lemon and Maple donuts are similar to Dunkin Donuts, but only as far as they look - they are way, WAY better! No stale and greasy aftertaste like DD. And I was a few bites into the Fudgie, when I decided to cut it in half and save the rest for later (thumbs up, but it's more of a cake donut, I prefer the other kind better). As another reviewer said, a single donut is $1, and a dozen is about $7.50. Was surprised to see that they also offered soup as well, they had a seafood soup today that I wish I could have tried if I hadn't gone crazy with the donuts. Maybe next time. This place has an old fashioned vibe to it, but in a good way. The cash only policy just adds to the feel of the place. It's altogether pretty perfect, in my opinion. This is a classic donut shop. You will find things in this shop that you have not seen in forever. Everything is hand made on premesis. Unlike other donut shops this place has a wide variety to choose from. Classic coconut was my favorite as a kid and I have not seen them since.....but they have them here. Friendly people, the hours are perfect - 24 hrs! Also, I've been in here in uniform before to take donuts to my crew at work and they have given them to me gratis at times (think it was a holiday). Fantastic and they even refused to take a big tip I offered. Their donuts are fairly good, not great or exceptional, which is all that prevents me from giving them five stars. If I want donuts, I drive here even though it's opposite of my route to work and I pass a Dunkin Donuts otherwise. read more

All the complaints about the coffee must be coming from people who prefer the mud-style coffee that is so bold you have to chew it first. The coffee at The Donut Shack is perfect every time. Consistantly smooth and the perfect compliment to the most delectable hand cut and homemade donuts around.
