Great spot to pick up a quick lunch... we got jumbo lump crab cakes with fries and slaw. They have a choice of fried or broiled for the crab cakes. Everything was delicious! Their fries seemed to be hand cut, and were perfectly seasoned. Their tartar and cocktail sauces were also very good. This is a seafood market/supplier. They have a nice selection on display, sell premade seafood salads, crabmeat, and fresh fish, scallops, oysters and shrimp. I'm sure it's a seasonal selection. I got a half dozen jumbos yesterday, some of the worst crabs I've ever had. They were either over cooked or re-heated crabs, I'm going with they were re-heats. In the past they've been great, but the meat was really dry, this is the second time this has happened, I didn't complain last time because I always give people a second chance, but I don't think I'll be returning as a customer this time. I'm on disability, can't get crabs as often as I used to with todays prices, so it really sucks to have something like this happen. The jumbo shrimp was good though. read more

I've been going here for years. No one in SP thinks they are great but it's a convenient location. Anyhow, a few weeks ago they shorted us a half dozen crabs. No big deal, I figured we would tell them next time we returned to get more crabs. Well, I just returned and they refused to do anything about the half dozen crabs because "you should have called right away last time". No kidding. Joes Seafood is a reliable Seafood option that is well priced for quality seafood. My family ordered enough food for a crab feast and Joe's delivered! Our crabs were delicious and so were our sides. I recommend the the large crabs - they had a ton of meat and were well seasoned with lots of Old Bay. (We got a 1/2 bushel which is 3 dozen- shown in pics) The Cream of Crab soup was ok and very thick and I could have done without. The other reviews indicate the staff can be rude. I did not experience this because Rockstar picked up the order. I must say these were the best crab cakes I have ever experienced and I have had some of the best. The extra large crabs were amazing. Came to Joe's on a recommendation by a friend. Called in my order for later in the afternoon and it was ready on time and HOT! The staff was very friendly and provided prompt service. After reading all the bad reviews I was hesitant to go in. They weren't rude, but not overly friendly. There is a bunch of kids that work there and definitely have to grab their attention, but when you do they were friendly and helpful. Hopefully the crabs are good!! they can remove light weight crabs instead of selling them... the choice to sell light crabs is the decision the managers make! The spice on the crabs and the shrimps was very good. After having a minor yet less than stellar customer service experience on the phone I called back and spoke with Joe himself. I explained what happened and explained that I had been a customer for over ten years. When he refused to explain his employee's actions or apologize for them, I informed him that I would no longer be a customer. His response? "That's fine. That is okay by me." I have been a chef for nearly 20 years folks. Joe is over priced and the quality is meh at best. I shopped here for convience and to support a local business. This place a great secret for out of town visitors for lunch. Looks like a very clean fresh seafood market, and they offer prepared options like a fantastic crab cake sandwich! Go in and tell them what you want such as hush puppies instead of French Fries! Then go to your car and have a rest until they bring your lunch to you there. Perfect! Ordered medium crabs and some were so light, they weren't worth picking and some looked illegally small and definitely not medium. We won't be back. read more

I was very disappointed by the crabs I got on the 4th of July this year. I got larges and everyone of the crabs were over cooked . Also they were hollow and very little meat inside them. Have been coming here with my family since I was a kid. Now I've been bringing my family. The last two experiences have been HORRIBLE. Between the crabs and the staff, I can't recommend this place. They're lucky they don't have much competition in the immediate area but if you're in SP and looking for crabs, be forewarned of an awful experience. I guess if you get the $10 cold crabs that are females or paper thin light you can't complain but when you spend good money on crabs for the family you have an expectation. This place was one of my favorite places until I had to return cold crabs. The manager was really nice over the phone, but when I showed up in person, it was a total different story. He was really rude and asked me not to come back. I told him that I really like this place and just got a bad batch of crabs. We felt like having crab cakes after talking to a friend who said they had Joe's delicious crab cakes for dinner. We decided to give Joe's a try. We were not disappointed. The staffer who answered the phone could not have been more helpful. He said the order would be ready in 30 minutes and it was ready. I changed my order at Joe's to add two items. No problem the staffer said--they made me feel very at ease. Problem with my credit card --me trying to tap would not work--no problem, he said again and showed me how to get it to read immediately. Very pleased with the customer service. The food--best lump crab cakes we have had in a long time. We had them broiled They were chock full of lump crab meat. Very little filler. I thought they were totally perfect. My husband thought they could have had more Old Bay but said he still considered it a great crab cake as served. We will be ordering again, soon. read more

I've purchased crabs from Joe's for the last two years and have never had a bad experience with size or quality of crab. They clearly tell you where the crabs are from -- some from the Chesapeake others from the Carolinas (unlike other places that simply say "chesapeake bay crabs"). Anyone who knows anything about crabs knows that if you have a good variety of sizes, males and females, they are probably from a variety of locations. read more

Last Mother's Day, I called in an order for 2 dozen large males, paying their premium price (expensive but don't recall exactly how much at the time). When I got home, a lot of the "large" crabs were at best medium sizes. When I called they told me what constituted a large in their minds. I was very upset since this to me "constituted" false advertisement. I've never come back to Joe's since. There's a place in Glen Burnie, SeaSide carry-out, whose mediums are bigger than Joe's larges. Live and learn. read more

I had crabs in 2014 and they tasted like tar. Some of the shells were void of meat. Some of the crabs were undersized. In other words, the worst crab experience I have had. Not sure where they got their tarry, undersized, sometimes crabless crabs. I wish there were more reviews of this place. read more

I have been coming here for the past two years and never disappointed. The prices are almost always the best for crabs. I usually call around and they beat most prices by the dozen by about 10-15 dollars. Usually the have specials on the regulars - three dozen for around 35-40 which puts the crabs at a little more then a dollar a piece. Shrimp are also good. For less then 50 dollars you can get three dozen crabs and a pound of shrimp. Not sure why other reviewers have said their experience with the staff was bad - I have never been treated less then great. It can be hard to find a work force for only the summer so you can't expect the staff to be very old. If you are looking for Maryland crabs only you should call first as in the off season they are usually from Louisiana. But hey they are all blue crabs in the end. Also they have a great deal if you are looking to make crab soup or crab cakes as they have dozens mixed cold for only 10 dollars! read more
