Be the first person to sing praises for Doom on Yelp? Don't mind if I doom (https://youtu.be/OxzpVaiP6eg?si=Ph7WmtiZ84_nymLW)! When I first heard that the space that used to house old Whiskey Dix and Voltage Lounge was becoming Doom Bar, and saw that artists like Doomed Future (https://www.instagram.com/doomedfuture/) and Sea of Doom (https://www.instagram.com/seaofdoom/) were contributing art to the interior I was instantly curious. Then when I heard that it was designed to cater towards casual and diehard fans of all things metal, horror, and dark art I was all kinds of sold! Seeing that its first art show was happening after my friend's holiday cookie exchange party was the perfect opportunity to check it out, and I enjoyed everything that it had to offer. Sea of Doom's stained glass windows, Doom Future's bathroom art, a freaking bone chandelier, and then some added onto the overall aesthetic of the bar. The upper balcony area played host to the art show curated by Sue Moerder (https://www.instagram.com/suemoerderskullart/), and there should be new art gallery displays semi-regularly. Instead of things like sports, it was also cool to see the televisions showing things like classic horror film trailers and scenes. While the old music venue stage was changed up to have table seating that included old church pews, its not implausible to think that a heavy metal bar near a music venue like Franklin Music Hall could have music events in the not-too-distant future. If I weren't dining with vegans I likely would have savored in sharing the communal bone marrow with the table. But Doom had an enticing menu for vegan and meat-eating diners alike. The Sichuan dry rub seitan nuggets were a fiery house of spice that I just couldn't quit. Yet somehow it also wasn't the hottest thing on the menu since the DOOM sauce is labeled as really fucking spicy!!! The libations manu included plenty of enticing cocktails, spirits wine, and a non-alcoholic Sacred Tea. But I was happy to see a draft list that featured plenty of local offerings from the likes of Attic Brewing,, Carbon Copy, and Space Cadet. It's only been open for less than a month now. But with events like its art gallery showing and photos with Krampus Doom is already off to a good start, and it gives good reason to check out their Instagram for the latest on even more events (https://www.instagram.com/doom.bar/)!

I sent an email with questions about our reservation and never received a response. The online booking portal doesn't provide much detail, and while the website has a "Call" option, it wasn't very useful. I received multiple automated reminder emails stressing that we needed to arrive 15 minutes early because race times wouldn't be extended for late arrivals, which is completely understandable. I just wish there had been the same level of attention when it came to responding to customer questions. Once we arrived, the experience was much better. They gave our group a private seating area, which was a nice surprise. Our server was friendly, checked on us periodically, and never pressured us to order food. We chose to have drinks only, and it was nice to relax before and after racing. The simulators were a lot of fun, and everyone in our group enjoyed the experience. The only thing to know is that the races move quickly--you only have about two minutes between sessions to switch drivers, so there's not much time to explore the venue or step away without paying attention to when you're up next. Overall, it was a fun and unique way to celebrate a birthday. We'd definitely come back, although probably as a special once-a-year outing because of the cost. If F1 Arcade improved its communication before events, this easily could have been a five-star experience.

Fun experience, but definitely on the pricey side for the amount of actual racing you get…read more F1 Arcade is a pretty cool F1 racing simulation where you get to drive an F1-style race car on various real F1 tracks. The simulators do a good job of making you feel like you're actually racing--the seat moves and rumbles as you go around the track, accelerate, brake, and presumably make questionable racing decisions. One warning: if you get motion sickness easily, this might not be the activity for you. Between the moving seat and the racing visuals, your brain may start wondering why your body is sitting still while your car is doing 200 mph. The place itself is huge, with 40+ simulators. We went on a Saturday afternoon and were surprised by how empty it was. They also have a bar and serve food, but we were there strictly for the racing. We had a party of 4, so we did the team racing option and were given two simulators. Each of us got three races, and the system paired us up differently for each race, so everyone got a chance to race against everyone else. That part was actually pretty fun and made it feel more competitive. The downside is that the races are REALLY short--about 3 minutes each. So for roughly $30 per person, we each got only about 10 minutes of actual racing time across the three races. Once you factor in getting everyone set up and waiting between races, our entire visit was under an hour. The staff was friendly and did a good job explaining how the simulators work and how to check when your next race was starting, so the whole process was pretty easy. Overall, this was a fun experience, especially if you're an F1 fan or enjoy racing games. The simulators are definitely more immersive than playing a racing game at home. That said, the price is hard to overlook considering how little actual driving time you get. We had a good time, but at around $30 per person for about 10 minutes of racing, this is probably a "do it once for the experience" kind of activity rather than something we'd do regularly.

We asked for the toppings on the side because, you know, kids, but WOW. The vodka sauce was delicious, and the pickled tomato concoction that came with them? I could've bathed in it. The calamari was perfectly crisp and came with the unexpected bonus of onion rings, which were ever-so-lightly battered and perfectly crunchy. And once again, the sauces were superb. The boys shared a cheese pizza, half pepperoni, and really enjoyed it. My husband ordered the burger, and yes, I stole a bite--and yes, to no one's surprise, it was amazing. We also ordered the charred broccoli after seeing everyone rave about it online. They were NOT wrong. Creamy, smoky, charred perfection. And finally... drumroll please... the 10 oz. smoked Duroc pork chop! OH. EM. GEEE. Perfectly charred on the outside and incredibly juicy inside, sitting in the most delicious smoky morita-apricot glaze and topped with a bright cucumber-melon salad with mint and blue basil. The contrast was perfection! The rich, smoky pork, the sweet and slightly spicy glaze, and that cool, fresh salad on top. Every bite had the perfect combination of flavors and textures. Easily one of the best pork chops I've ever had. As wonderful as the food was, the service somehow made the experience even better. From the minute we arrived, we were treated like family coming home for the holidays. Warm, welcoming, attentive, and genuinely kind. What an absolute joy of a restaurant.
