Dinner was absolutely amazing! From start to finish, Darling Jack's did not miss. We started with the mozzarella sticks and... OMG. First of all, they're huge and homemade. We asked for the toppings on the side because, you know, kids, but WOW. The vodka sauce was delicious, and the pickled tomato concoction that came with them? I could've bathed in it. The calamari was perfectly crisp and came with the unexpected bonus of onion rings, which were ever-so-lightly battered and perfectly crunchy. And once again, the sauces were superb. The boys shared a cheese pizza, half pepperoni, and really enjoyed it. My husband ordered the burger, and yes, I stole a bite--and yes, to no one's surprise, it was amazing. We also ordered the charred broccoli after seeing everyone rave about it online. They were NOT wrong. Creamy, smoky, charred perfection. And finally... drumroll please... the 10 oz. smoked Duroc pork chop! OH. EM. GEEE. Perfectly charred on the outside and incredibly juicy inside, sitting in the most delicious smoky morita-apricot glaze and topped with a bright cucumber-melon salad with mint and blue basil. The contrast was perfection! The rich, smoky pork, the sweet and slightly spicy glaze, and that cool, fresh salad on top. Every bite had the perfect combination of flavors and textures. Went for lunch on a Saturday, was sat quickly and greeted by a server relatively fast. The watermelon and cucumber salad was very refreshing, the only thing I would mention is that there was a tad bit too much dressing sonfelt very oily while eating. The lobster ravioli was 50/50 for me personally, while the lobster was cooked well and the sauce flavorful, the only lobster was what was topped on the ravioli and not actually stuffed in with the cheese like I was expecting. It was still good, just not as "lobster ravioli" as Im used to. The pizza is a very thin crust but they did a wonderful job of not burning the crust despite this. The open kitchen balances the vibes making it seem lively and open. The server was friendly and we were seated quickly, I ordered the cheese + cheese and my partner the watermelon and feta salad. Stopped in here for lunch and first thing you notice is it's designed like a classy old school bar/Restaurant which I think is pretty cool. I was seated immediately in a small booth. I decided to order the tavern brisket dip and beer. The sandwich part wasn't bad although the dip could have been confused with water with some oil because it had no flavor at all and added nothing to the dish. The french fries were made just how I personally like em with some crunch and low/medium salt level. I gave this place three stars but it's more like 3.5 mainly because well it's a nice place it's not doing anything at least with the lunch that almost every other place in the gayborhood part of Philadelphia doesn't do slightly better since there's a ton of restaurants and bars in this area. We were lucky to get one of the two window seats for Let's Do Lunch promotion. We were disappointed that the menu listed on the Let's Do Lunch website was misleading. The menu lists 3 courses. It does not list that it is only a shared app OR dessert. Each restaurant is different so it would be helpful to have this listed on the menu. The server was a bit annoyed to be asked about it. We shared the roasted beet appetizer. The beets were cooked to a nice texture. The sauce on the bottom was pored well. We both had the fish and chips. The French fries were hot and crisp. One of my favorite happy hours! While I can only speak to their happy hour specials, there's lot to say and I'm sure the full menu is just is good. A nice variety of apps and small plates. Their smash burger and whipped ricotta is always a hit. Happy hour menu includes a variety or drinks and plates that can get you fed a full meal for under 25 bucks. Seating is typically a bit tough to grab, especially if you dare to go during SIPS, but once you get in the service is quick and staff is friendly.
