Doors Done Right - the name of the business says it all. I've been living with an old wooden door and no opener in my 1955 Cape for 25 years. When I'd looked into getting a replacement door and opener 15 years ago, I was told that an opener would not work in my garage due to low headroom and a huge steel i-beam running cross-wise in the middle of the garage ceiling. When one of my extension springs blew about 4 weeks ago, I gave Doors Done Right and another company a call. The other company came out, measured, and gave me a quote within 15 minutes. Scott, the owner of DDR, measured, measured, and measured again, talking through options and limitations with me. He even took an opener out of its box to figure out how it might work with my situation. After about 45 minutes of measuring, speaking with his distributor and talking with me, he came up with a workable solution - at a price equivalent to the chain stores. The door was installed on Monday and even during the installation, Scott problem-solved to gain an additional 3 inches of clearance, so that my wife's SUV could fit comfortably under the door. He and his co-worker, Brandon, were completely professional and the door looks great and works flawlessly. I scheduled an install for a garage door opener but I indicated that I had standard garage doors (my mistake). Brandon came out, said that I'd need a longer kit due to 8 foot doors and gave me option of rescheduling or having a different opener installed that would not require a longer kit. This was my mistake but Brandon was so nice about having to come back out, which is surprising because most other shops charge you just to come to your house for an estimate. Brandon made some suggestions on things I might want consider on my other doors based on the age and clearly explained what each would cost and why I might want to consider those options. I called them on Tuesday, December 29th 2015, right before the New Year when my garage door broke and they came right away the next day and fixed everything in under an hour. They came to East Brunswick to fix my problems, so they service quite a large area around the Monmouth Junction region. They not only fixed the garage door opener, which had its hinge broken off rendering the opener completely useless, but they also fixed the small nitpicky minor things that both my garage doors were having issues with (e.g. the contacts for the light bulbs with the garage doors were broken so that the lights would not work even with new light bulbs--they cleaned it out and made the openers work as if they were brand new; additionally, my doors were closing lopsided so that there were gaps--they fixed that quickly too). Even though it was cold, they were very patient. If you are willing to keep them company while they solve your problems, they explain their thought process on what they are going to do and why they are going to do it. They answer all your questions thoroughly and patiently in ways you understand so that you can be sure that they are making the right choices and that you are also making the right decisions by going along with their assessment. They are honest in their assessment in how any other contractors you have used in the past may have done a good job or bad job. They take cash and check always, and credit card only sometimes. I paid by check. I asked them if they wanted the check to be written out to cash or to the owner, they replied "write it to Doors Done Right." Some people think this may not be important, but this answer tells me that they keep their books straight and are not doing any shady tax-evasion practices---again, these are good, hardworking, honest people. I really cannot praise them enough--will use them again in the future, albeit hopefully not too soon. read more

It's been a while for our garage door to operate like an earthquake every time, until one day it decides it would only close down to a foot above ground and open back up and stay up and not close. That's when I seriously needed a repair on it. I called Doors Done Right that afternoon and Scott answered right away. I explained my situation and he said the earliest he could come is the following morning. He also added that if I absolutely cannot got the door to close, he'd come that evening. I was able to manually get it to close so I didn't need to bother him to come that evening but I thought it was so nice of him to offer to come on such a short notice. When he arrived, he diagnosed and said the 4 pulleys needed to be replaced and that would make the door work again. So we agreed to get that done. When he was done the door was working again but it was still pretty loud. He said replacing the rollers would make it smoother and I asked him what he thinks the lifespan of the existing rollers and he said they would be good for a couple of years. And I asked him how much replacing the new rollers would cost; they were $8 each so $64 total for 8 rollers. Since he was already there, there was no additional charge for labor. After the rollers were changed, he tightened up all the nuts and bolts and the garage door is working so smoothly and so gently now. My husband who was out of town at the time this happened was super impressed when he returned. And every time I open/close my garage door now, makes me smile because for 2+ years that we've been living in this house, that was not the case! It scares the heck out of my toddler and she's not scared anymore after Scott's work on our garage door.
