My PTET extension wasn't filed on time, despite multiple assurances that it would be. I expect my CPA to thoroughly review my return, maximize every legitimate deduction and credit, and legally minimize my tax liability. Instead, it felt like the focus was simply on getting the return done rather than taking the time to optimize it. If you're looking for an accountant who is proactive and thorough about finding tax-saving opportunities, this was not my experience. Somehow every year I would miss bringing 1-2 documents. I am a pretty organized person most of the time, but when it comes to tax season, I looked like a mess. The only thing that is short of a 5 star ratings is the cost which is getting higher every year. Gone were those days when H&R block offered a $25-50 discount. My suggestion? H&R Block should give an incentive to those who keep using their service year after year in the form of a discount. I really do not think a $25-50 discount will hurt. As further validation, the company was rated highly with the Better Business Bureau. I rarely write reviews, but when I do it is because the provider's service was exceptionally good or bad.
