I'm pretty pleased when Doozo shows up at the guest kitchen (Waterford Cafe?) in the TMC Commons. They appear about twice a month and have a more limited menu than their downtown location. Their prices are very fair with 6 large veggie dumplings for about 6 dollars. The size is dominated by the thick skin but the spinach and egg or tofu stuffing still imparts some flavour before you dunk it into their sweet soy & ginger sauce. I thought about rating this a three but given the fact that I do look forward to when they show up at TMC, I should give them a four. read more

This is my first review of Doozo, but I used to eat here regularly - generally at least once a week - between 2008 and 2020. After most downtown workers were sent home due to Covid-19, I didn't eat here for a couple of years. This was my first visit since mid-2022. Their dumplings were, at one time, the very best in downtown, if not all of Houston. Something has changed in the last couple of years such that their dumplings - while still quite good and worth trying - are not the same. My go-to order there is the pork dumplings, extra spicy. It seems the dough is tougher than it once was, and the meat inside has also changed in texture. I noticed that neither member of the couple that had run Doozo for years was there, so it's possible they passed the reins to someone else. I do not want to suggest that this restaurant isn't worth trying - it absolutely is. It is just not the same restaurant that it was five years ago. read more

Best downtown dumplings imo and one of my go to lunch spots. There's usually a line, but don't worry... the staff has their system down to a science. They are super speedy and the line moves quickly - so quickly that newcomers may be overwhelmed and need a minute to figure out what to get from the menu. I'd recommend knowing what you want to order before jumping in line just so you don't feel rushed when it's time to order. The dumplings are packed and very filling. It's one of the few places where I'll order veggie dumplings because they're just that good. The spicy sauce is like crack. Get it extra spicy if you like that extra kick. This place used to be SO GOOD. During the workday, the line would be 30 people deep. During Covid, it changed ownership and it has completely gone downhill. The dumpling dough is thick and heavy, like the top of the dumplings have about 1/2 inch of thick dough. I used to love their veggie dumplings but recently ordered them and literally took one bite and through the rest out, they were inedible. I bit into something hard in the pork dumplings and they weren't served warm. Giving 2 star review because the hot & sour soup is still pretty good as is the fresh fruit. Let me preface this review by saying its for the soup noodle dish, unfortunately my review for their dumplings would be lower but I no longer order them here: I know this is a bit controversial among my colleagues, but doozo's isn't my favorite dumpling place in downtown. It's the most popular, they're serious about their food, maybe a bit too strict on knowing what you want to order, but I've historically found the dough a bit grainy and the fact that everything is sitting out preboxed to be slightly off putting. I was standing in line since a friend wanted some dumplings and I noticed their menu had a vague "Soup Noodle" listed on the board. I was curious so I ordered it, and was surprised they asked me to stand aside since it wasn't one of their premade options. I could tell they were slightly surprised when I ordered something other than dumplings, but I like ordering off beat items so I welcomed the reaction. The soup itself came in a separate container than the ingredients, which made transporting it easy albeit a bit wasteful on the container front. The soup had rice noodles, shrimp, chicken (dark meat), book choy, a slightly lackluster chicken broth, and green onions. The solid ingredients were all flavorful and made expertly, though the broth was missing a bit of flavor. In a downtown full of mass made food and premade options, I really appreciate the attention to detail paid to this dish. While I was the only one with an order that took longer than 5 seconds to make, I really appreciated what they put into this dish and would highly recommend it to anywone read more

After working nearby for 4 months, I finally got the chance to try this place out. I don't see what the hype is! Chicken dumplings - similar to everyone else's experience, the dumplings are doughy at the top and has a undercooked taste. In order for them to keep the line moving, they prebox the dumplings so the steam completely makes the bottom of the dumplings mushy (see pic). Gross. Hot and sour soup - you can't really go wrong with hot and sour soup. The large is a bit much for two people. I recommend getting the small size. Maybe I made the mistake of getting chicken dumplings. Regardless, if the chicken dumplings are mushy at the bottom and doughy, undercooked at the top, I'm pretty sure the pork ones are similar. I would rather take my business to the other dumpling shops in the tunnels. read more

The dumplings were pre boxed, sitting under a heater. The dough was thick and chewy. Extremely disappointed. This is my go-to spot for lunch downtown. The dumplings are usually the best. However, my last visit was not great. They ran out of pork dumplings, so I waited for 10 minutes until new ones were made. I have never seen them run out of dumplings before. When I started eating them, they tasted different. Nonetheless, I went down for lunch. The line does move quickly and the menu is really simple - if you can't figure out WTF you want, just get whatever the person in front of you got.... LOL I opted for a small order of pork dumplings with a spring roll. I'd heard about the spicy sauce, but mama's tummy is sensitive so I figured I'd try the regular first - it was spot on! They know what they are doing with these dumplings, I understand why it stays packed! The spring roll - meh... not a fan. It wasn't bad, but didn't warrant finishing and definitely not worth repeating. Still for just $6, it was a tasty lunch.
