Foodcourt casual. Northern china style foods. If you are looking for Cantonese style foods, you will be disappointed. Fast. Steamed meat packed dumplings with thick skin =high protein meal. Reasonable price. Service is good for what you get.

Located at Houston center food court. Food takes good, both noodle and dumplings. Sitting in a common shared area but not too noisy

This is my first review of Doozo, but I used to eat here regularly - generally at least once a week - between 2008 and 2020. After most downtown workers were sent home due to Covid-19, I didn't eat here for a couple of years. This was my first visit since mid-2022. Their dumplings were, at one time, the very best in downtown, if not all of Houston. Something has changed in the last couple of years such that their dumplings - while still quite good and worth trying - are not the same. My go-to order there is the pork dumplings, extra spicy. It seems the dough is tougher than it once was, and the meat inside has also changed in texture. I noticed that neither member of the couple that had run Doozo for years was there, so it's possible they passed the reins to someone else. I do not want to suggest that this restaurant isn't worth trying - it absolutely is. It is just not the same restaurant that it was five years ago.

This hidden gem is greatly priced, efficient and delicious!! Loved their veggie dumplings. Can truly taste that they are homemade and they also have tasty fried rice (more like an onion fried rice). The service was super quick and the dumpling sauce you get is absolutely delicious!

7/30/24: BABY ROACH found in Doozo dumpling sauce.

I have loved Doozo for a long time (steamed pork dumplings with spicy sauce is my regular order), but the quality noticeably went down after ownership changed during the pandemic. Last week I ordered my usual, and I found a dead BABY ROACH in the dumpling sauce. Utterly disgusting. I will not be returning.

Park shops is completely being renovated so I didn't get the full experience and there was lots of stair climbing. The food was okay. I'm hoping to visit the new location in Allen Center downtown soon. Once this location is completed, I'm excited to come back and give it another shot. The veggie dumplings had spinach and glass noodles, they were tasty.

FOOD: 5/5 These are my absolute FAVORITE dumplings. The veggie dumplings are packed with vermicelli noodles, tofu, and lots of Spinach. Ask for it extra spicy and they'll give you additionally chili sauce to add on the side. SERVICE: 5/5 The woman who runs this place is quick, efficient, and doesn't waste time with small talk. For a quick lunch work break, this is exactly what I need. OVERALL: 5/5 Really not much to say other than, if you're a dumpling addict like me, this is THE place. I wish they were open on weekends!

Let me preface this review by saying its for the soup noodle dish, unfortunately my review for their dumplings would be lower but I no longer order them here: I know this is a bit controversial among my colleagues, but doozo's isn't my favorite dumpling place in downtown. It's the most popular, they're serious about their food, maybe a bit too strict on knowing what you want to order, but I've historically found the dough a bit grainy and the fact that everything is sitting out preboxed to be slightly off putting. I was standing in line since a friend wanted some dumplings and I noticed their menu had a vague "Soup Noodle" listed on the board. I was curious so I ordered it, and was surprised they asked me to stand aside since it wasn't one of their premade options. I could tell they were slightly surprised when I ordered something other than dumplings, but I like ordering off beat items so I welcomed the reaction. The soup itself came in a separate container than the ingredients, which made transporting it easy albeit a bit wasteful on the container front. The soup had rice noodles, shrimp, chicken (dark meat), book choy, a slightly lackluster chicken broth, and green onions. The solid ingredients were all flavorful and made expertly, though the broth was missing a bit of flavor. In a downtown full of mass made food and premade options, I really appreciate the attention to detail paid to this dish. While I was the only one with an order that took longer than 5 seconds to make, I really appreciated what they put into this dish and would highly recommend it to anywone

The dumplings were cold and some of them were hard like they were old or reheated. I expected better and left disapointed.

Dumpling dough was super thick. I asked for the mixed dumplings and all I got was pork. I wasn't impressed, won't be back.

What is inside their chicken dumplings? Is it celery and something else?

I don't see or taste celery. Seems to be more spinich filler.

The got nice wall art too, depicting the popular dishes from the north so I had my expectation and hopes up. Service is ordinary, she speaks little English but can get by ordering, we order first at the counter the sit anywhere. Braised egg is 2 for $3.50, salty but expected since it's marinated. Came out steaming hot, and yolk was not overly cooked and dry, not bad. Starting with the Chinese hamburger I felt sad and know not to expect too much from the other dishes we ordered. First the meat look different than what others have posted before, and it was kinda dry and too salty to eat. There was no other spice, only the meat juice flavor. The bun they use was stale to eat. Traditional way of making this should be the flaky oily pancake, or at least make the buns softer to eat. The mutton stew was clear and very heartwarming to drink on a cold day. But the portion is super small for the price. The glass noodles were gone in literally two bites. I had none to share with my boyfriend. This dish come with the burger bun too that you can soak them in the soup so I guess this is the extra carb make up for the less noodles. Oil splash noodle is their specialty? It was good but didn't wowed me. Noodles are chewy and well cooked, came with lots of bean sprouts. The sauce is flavorful and actually not too oily which I enjoyed more. You can add the beef for an extra charge, it's the regular braised beef, was just ok. I find it funny that their all food arts on the wall look nothing like the actual way they serve it.

The mapo tofu is one of the best we've had outside of Bellaire with spicy, savory, numbing, and warmth that you expect from a good mapo tofu. Crispy popcorn chicken is a classic that's spicy, lightly fried, and crisp. It has an authenticity that other places around can't replicate and makes you keep craving more. The portions are also appropriate for their price. Service is incredibly quick, and you can order as you go and receive your dish within 10-15 minutes, regardless of how busy they are. As for the ambiance, it's loud, it's hectic, and it's simple... maybe a stretch, but makes me feel like I'm eating at a mom and pop shop in the heart of China. This place is definitely a go to if I'm convincing a friend of Houston's great food scene! Rating: 4.5/5

No complaints here since we were starving from an 8 hour road trip. The Dan Dan Noodles...I had high expectations but sadly this dish fell short. I recommend Hu's Cooking to use a bigger bowl and more sauce because it was difficult to mix the noodles and the sauce wasn't...saucing, unfortunately. I wish there was more flavor in this dish. The Scallion Pancake was super over-fried and oily. See image in my review. The outer parts of the pancake were fried to a crisp and only a small circumference in the center stayed chewy. I know Chinese tends to be oily but this pancake soaked up way too much oil. Half a Peking duck: super great price for so much meat. The difficulty when eating this dish is gnawing the meat off the sharp bones of the duck. Mapo Tofu with white rice: pretty easy staple, no complaints here. Dinner on a Saturday was packed but we got seated quickly and food arrived fast.

I swear it's just one really long hand made noodle, so it's a bit hard to share, but it's a must-get. We also tried the Claypot noodle and it was good as well but a bit of an acquired taste. The restaurant is located inside Jusgo grocery store. The seating is quite limited so I wouldn't recommend it for large parties. And it's pretty mom and pop, so if that's your jam, go for it. Chairs are mismatched, drinking water is somewhat self-service in small cafeteria-style plastic cups, and tables are small. Like I said - mom and pop, and that's not a bad thing.
