Decent place to get a reasonably priced lunch in Downtown Omaha. Subs, pizza, and pastas. A no-nonsense kind of place, nothing fancy. Definitely a strong Creighton University theme for decor here. There's a family-restaurant vibe here, staff know what do and provided good service. Be mindful of the hours as this restaurant is a downtown lunch place and is open during the window when people downtown are eating lunch. I wouldn't make a special trip to come downtown to eat here; but if you're downtown it's convenient and a better value than a lot of other places in the immediate area. To Go Review Today my boss offered to pay for lunch for us and recommended Doozy's. Yay! Free lunch! Upon arrival, my sandwich was in a paper bag. It was wrapped in foil and when it was opened it appeared to be completely smashed (no, my boss did not accidentally mangle our sandwiches). The saving grace of this was that the sandwich was pretty good. I got the Italian Combo Sub. Ham, salami, sausage, green peppers, onions, mushrooms, cheese, lettuce, tomatoes and mayo. The sausage seemed pretty odd to have, but, it turns out a toasted italian club with little sausage meatballs is pretty good! I can only comment on the sandwich I ordered, a 7" chicken cordon blue. It was pretty good, though the chicken and ham were a little dry. I thought the bread was awesome though and the price was just right. The service might be a little slow if it's really busy like it was when I went. I thought my coworker was crazy when he kept talking about Doozy's and how delicious it was. I thought it didn't even sound like a real place and how could I not know about it if, in fact, it was so amazing... My opinion dictates only three stars for the following reasons: 1. Each time I eat here it reminds me of watching American Idol. Seems like a good idea at the time, but afterwards you stop and think... wait, what did I just do? 2. It was fine when I worked downtown and I probably ate here 10 or so times, but since I don't anymore I haven't been back. 3. Their chicken sandwich is called Chicken & Mayo for a reason. 4. Was missing my favorite (smothered chicken) sandwich from the former Lincoln downtown Doozy's that had big strips of chicken, loads of mushrooms and cheese. The Omaha Doozy's makes a wildly inferior sandwich with shrapnel-like chicken and very little cheese. I wasn't actually tasting mushrooms so I opened one half and found two little slices. I used to really like their sandwiches, but the last few times they have been dissapointing. First, the menu is vague as to which toppings are on the sandwiches. I typically ask before ordering. The sandwich I received today was not the smothered turkey it was supposed to be. It was missing the promised lettuce, tomato, mushrooms and cheese?! Taking it to go, I didn't realized the lack of toppings until I was back at my desk. Their pasta hasn't let me down, but the sandwiches have really lost their appeal. The meat is a pressed turkey and very skimpy with the toppings. I like their toasted bread, but that's about it. Too bad the quality has declined, they used to be great! A long time ago when I was a graduate student in Lincoln, I used to like to get hot sub sandwiches at a little place called Doozy's. This was long before Quiznos and Subway purchased oversized toaster ovens and doubled the price of their sandwiches for 30 seconds of convection heat. I moved to Omaha, but the memory of many good sandwiches at Doozy's lingered. When I discovered Doozy's in downtown Omaha, I first thought that I was hallucinating. I was not, unless my hallucinations are served hot and toasty with Sun Chips on the side. Doozy's has great hot subs and pizza. Doozy's will fool you on the outside; walk too fast and you might miss it. But if you happen to get hooked in by the fantastic smells coming from inside and wander in, you won't be disappointed. The crew there is like a family, they're unfailingly friendly and quick to greet customers and respond to requests. Behind the counter is the largest stand mixer I've ever seen because all the bread for their amazing sandwiches is baked fresh in-house every day. My colleague and I have tried a number of menu items, and I gravitate toward the club while he really loves the pastrami. We generally would duck in there for a quick lunch so we haven't tried the pizzas or pasta but heard they were killer. One of the many cool places to eat downtown. Ample on street parking. I visited Doozy's at 4:30pm, they close at 5pm. The place was super clean, and the service was outstanding. The Jeff Gordon and Creighton Blue Jay memorabilia insures that I will be visiting Doozy's regularly. I ordered the 14" Roast Beef Combo. The sub also includes ham and turkey. You will not be searching for the meat on this sandwich. Plenty of it. The bread was perfectly toasted, and was crispy until the last bite. I am not a big fan of lettuce, and unlike most sub shops Doozy's did not overwhelm the sandwich with too much lettuce. All the ingredients were fresh. In addition to Subs, Doozy's offers fresh baked pizza, salad and pasta. You can call in your order if your in a hurry and Doozy's offers delivery. Doozy's is a lunch time Sub Shop. Customer service is seriously lacking at this place. We had a bulk order delivered to work and had some food missing. We called after checking the receipt and were told that we were wrong. I understand it's easy to mess up a bulk order, but the owner was a complete jerk. We both heard my coworker order the food and he just didn't ring it up apparently. GOING OUT OF BUSINESS Apparently this restaurant is closing their doors forever. Ubered there on a recommendation from a friend while I was in town on business. Doors were closed at 4:23 PM. Their old sign from when they were in business stated they were open until 5PM. Oh, did I mention that the wind chill was 16 degrees, and my uber had left by the time I realized my mistake. Rumor has it that they may only be temporarily closed while they get rid of some staff that decided to take off early, but given that level of execution, i am guessing they are breaking the health code on a number of points. Prices are kind of high. If you don't get the special, then expect $9+ for a sandwich, chips and drink. For a pizza or salad the prices will be $10+ and not much for toppings on the pizza, kind of skimpy. The ice machine frequently isn't working and they put ice in a bucket you have to scoop into your cup. In the summer the air conditioner isn't used and the front door is left open, which allows flies to pester you while eating. Also, a large fan was installed to the back wall to presumably help with air circulation. It is loud and blows napkins away. In the winter the heat is kept very low, I'd say less than 60, so you'll have to keep your coat on while you eat, or freeze. There are better alternatives with lower prices and a better atmosphere in which to eat comfortably (a/c, heat, no flies). read more

Visiting the city and decided to pop into Doozy's for a bite to eat. The lunch special for a pizza sub, chips, and drink for $5.99 caught my eye. The man behind the counter (Perhaps the owner?) was quite friendly and more than happy to accommodate my vegetarian needs. My pizza sub with green peppers came hot and the toppings tasted fresh; was served in a basket with a pickle. Not sure what I was expecting, but the meal was more of a French bread pizza. Tasty nonetheless, but did not blow me away. Is receiving an imperfect score because the restroom was in need of a thorough cleaning. Their food is good, but in the last year they have drastically raised their prices. Salads that used to cost $4.99 now cost $7+. Their subs have also been raised drastically. My friends and I stopped in here for lunch. They ordered the alfredo pasta bake, which came out correct because the cashier yelled that order to the back. We also ordered a chicken parm sandwich and a ham and cheese sandwich. We were brought a chicken mayo and a turkey sandwich. When we told them that is not what we ordered we were told, "Can you just take it? Maybe he can give you a discount." The food was set down and that was it.
