At the end of 2025 when I was having a dental emergency, Abbey did everything in her power to get me in right away (I called very late in the afternoon and was seen first thing the next morning) and even though I had to go to a endodontist and eventually come back to your office the same day, you made sure I was seen before your office closed for the holidays. Not only did you ensure I was seen, but Dr. Ryan performed a tooth extraction on the same day. Did I have to wait a bit? Yes. But that is absolutely normal and okay! His office had a full day of patients and the fact that Dr. Ryan somehow made time to see me twice in a day AND perform the tooth extraction is simply going above and beyond. I started the process last week for an implant. I was in extreme pain over the weekend and chose to wait to reach out to Dr. Ryan's office until Monday morning and not bother him over the weekend (although they do have a number for emergencies for after-hours - I simply chose not to bother him) and by Monday afternoon, I was in his office getting X-rays. Turns out I have an infection - Dr. Ryan ensured that I was prescribed the appropriate medications right away and I was able to pick them up within the hour of him sending the prescriptions to my pharmacy. Admittedly, I'm really shocked by some of these negative reviews. Abbey, who is at the front desk, is one of the most compassionate, kind-hearted human beings I've ever met. She has always treated me with kindness and respect. If I don't understand a billing matter, she sits down with me to explain it. Dr. Ryan is nothing short of an absolute gem. He genuinely cares about his patients. Dr. Ryan's staff are incredible. Each one of them is amazing. Every time a friend asks for a dental referral, it's always Dr. Ryan I send them to because you simply won't find a better dentist and staff anywhere in San Diego. If you want an ounce of customer service don't come here…read more.. After my dentist retired after 25 years, I decided to try a dentist within my network, close to home. This dentist office has taken AI to the extreme. I decided to book due to what I believe are inflated online reviews after reviewing low google reviews and Nextdoor. It can take months to book an appointment with this office so when I wanted to make a change to my appointment I called and texted to make the change. Unaware of the lack of customer service and strictly only AI technology use of the office, my appointment was automatically cancelled. Afraid of not having a dental appointment again for months, I went into the office to attempt to speak with a human to ask if they could please not cancel the appointment and please just accommodate the change that I was requesting. Even going into the office, in person, that change was not able to be accommodated. I was told the appointment had already been cancelled. I would have to go back online to reschedule. The problem is...by the time you get back online, will the appointment that was automatically cancelled by AI be available when someone at Harbor Dental could have easily made the change for their customer?? After expressing my frustration with the woman at the front desk, she let me know that this is not the right dental office for me. I agree. I still believe that there should still be a human element involved with a dental practice.

I changed jobs a few times and she always has an issue updating my insurance, I believe because she is lazy or otherwise unwilling to update my stuff which she probably doesn't have to do with other patients often. Today I had an appointment at 8:45 but she had it written for 8:30 in her books. This became apparent when she called me at 8:31 while I was leaving my house and left a voicemail saying my appointment was right now (8:30) and that she tried calling before but had my number down wrong and so it seemed disconnected yesterday when she phoned. Keep this in mind as this is already one instance of her writing information down wrong. My number has been the same since I was 16. I would consider her next point, that My appointment was at 8:30 not 8:45 another mistake on her part as I made the appointment in my calendar 6 months ago on the spot as I told her what time I would be available (at the end of my last appointment). Now rather than rush over for nothing, if my appointment was at 8:30, I called back and said I had it at 8:45 and was on my way is that not the case? she said yes it was 8:45 (over the phone) so I kept going and let her know I live very close by. I didn't arrive till 8:55, traffic plus I stopped to call her to confirm I should even come since she moved the appointment up 15 mins, that's my fault and I should of continued going even as I confirmed, but as I walk in she says "name?" I say my name and she's says my appointment was 30 mins ago and starts to get up. I said I'm sorry is i'm not 8:55? am I not 10 mins late? She said well no it's 9oclock your appointment was 8:30. I said im sorry it's 8:55. My appointment was 8:45. She then said no it's was 8:30 I just said that on the phone (why would you just say that?) then I said i'm sorry i've had this in my calendar since 6 months ago it's always been 8:45 I picked the time. Then she showed me her book where she wrote 8:30 but remember she has already admitted to copying information down wrong when she left a voicemail saying she thought my phone was disconnected. At this point I am just wanting to see the doctor I don't want to deal with this lady at all, so while she's throwing attitude saying I was mistaken and she'll just have to make time for me anyway and gesturing for me to come on back with her and rolling her eyes as I hesitate I let her know I'll find a new dentist and turned to walk out. She's insisting the entire time it's suddenly fine, not a problem, come on back, etc. but I've had it there's nothing she can say to excuse the way she was acting. If it was so "fine" "no problem" and "just come on back it'll just take a minute" then why lie about the timing, berate me with attitude and talking down to me about being late. It's actually no problem to find someone who enjoys their job and doesn't infect everyone around them with their awful outlook and approach so I continued on my way. I told her I hope you have a great day while I left. Going to miss Dr. Spera, the coolest surfer dentist out there.

Beware of this practice. My wife had a crown pop off and was referred by a friend. They take X-ray…read moreand say the tooth behind the crown that came off need a root canal and dr Becker says the crown that came off has lots of decay and will need to be replace. He Re-cemented the crown and it literally can off 2 hours after she left the office. The front office was so disorganized and unprofessional they never provided a treatment plan, telling her the 2 crowns would be $700 a piece. She went to the Endodontist he recommended and had the root canal. Dr Becker's office called a few days prior to her appointment to get the 2 crowns and the lady told her FYI you'll be $2000 out of pocket. She kept pressing my wife say I have 6 other patients trying to get in do you want to keep your appointment. We said $2000 is not the amount we discussed can Dr. Becker do a build up on the root canaled tooth to protect it until we can find a different dentist. They called back the next day a said no he wouldn't do it and the temporary filling will last. 2 days later the temp filling started to fail. Long story short we got a second opinion and the new dentist put the old crown on no problem and said it should last a life time and he also did the build up on the root canal no problem. He also said the tooth Dr Becker sent her out for a root canal didn't even meed a root canal Last this I had an exam X-rays and a cleaning with this guy at the same time and he said I have 6 cavities and need a crown and deep cleanings. Then gave me a treatment plan for $1200. My dad is a dentist in another state and has Taught us how to spot a rip-off artist and this guy should be ashamed. STAY AWAY FROM THIS SCAM!!!

Their office staff did everything possible to try to work me in to get it taken care of that day, as they were not open for the next few days otherwise. Dr. Becker took great care of gluing my crown in again. Their office staff is incredibly knowledgeable about Aflac insurance and I don't have to worry about making the claims. My husband and my daughter and I have been very pleased with the dental care we have received here.

Every time someone I know mentions that they're looking for a dentist (which happens a lot, since San Diego is so transient and I'm constantly meeting people who have recently moved here), I'm quick to recommend Ocean Beach Dental! I originally checked them out on a friend's recommendation after she found them on Yelp, so it's high time I wrote my own Yelp review. Since I'm one of those lucky people who has never had cavities (or really any dental issues to speak of, at least not yet), I'm mostly just here for cleanings. However, I did opt to get retainers and later Invisalign with OB Dental, which was a positive experience. One thing I really like is that the office has evening hours on Tuesdays and Thursdays (until 7pm), which is helpful with a 9-5 work schedule. Also, Dr. Aaron is personable and caring. He always answers my questions thoroughly and makes sure I feel good about the next steps before he moves onto the next patient. This is a family practice, and they're easy to work with and schedule appointments with. My dental health and hygiene have greatly improved in the time that I've been regularly coming here.
