If you want an ounce of customer service don't come here... After my dentist retired after 25 years, I decided to try a dentist within my network, close to home. This dentist office has taken AI to the extreme. I decided to book due to what I believe are inflated online reviews after reviewing low google reviews and Nextdoor. It can take months to book an appointment with this office so when I wanted to make a change to my appointment I called and texted to make the change. Unaware of the lack of customer service and strictly only AI technology use of the office, my appointment was automatically cancelled. Afraid of not having a dental appointment again for months, I went into the office to attempt to speak with a human to ask if they could please not cancel the appointment and please just accommodate the change that I was requesting. Even going into the office, in person, that change was not able to be accommodated. I was told the appointment had already been cancelled. I would have to go back online to reschedule. The problem is...by the time you get back online, will the appointment that was automatically cancelled by AI be available when someone at Harbor Dental could have easily made the change for their customer?? After expressing my frustration with the woman at the front desk, she let me know that this is not the right dental office for me. I agree. I still believe that there should still be a human element involved with a dental practice. read more

To Dr. Ryan and Team: I cannot express my gratitude enough to each of you individually, so I'll try here. At the end of 2025 when I was having a dental emergency, Abbey did everything in her power to get me in right away (I called very late in the afternoon and was seen first thing the next morning) and even though I had to go to a endodontist and eventually come back to your office the same day, you made sure I was seen before your office closed for the holidays. Not only did you ensure I was seen, but Dr. Ryan performed a tooth extraction on the same day. Did I have to wait a bit? Yes. But that is absolutely normal and okay! His office had a full day of patients and the fact that Dr. Ryan somehow made time to see me twice in a day AND perform the tooth extraction is simply going above and beyond. I started the process last week for an implant. I was in extreme pain over the weekend and chose to wait to reach out to Dr. Ryan's office until Monday morning and not bother him over the weekend (although they do have a number for emergencies for after-hours - I simply chose not to bother him) and by Monday afternoon, I was in his office getting X-rays. Turns out I have an infection - Dr. Ryan ensured that I was prescribed the appropriate medications right away and I was able to pick them up within the hour of him sending the prescriptions to my pharmacy. Admittedly, I'm really shocked by some of these negative reviews. Abbey, who is at the front desk, is one of the most compassionate, kind-hearted human beings I've ever met. She has always treated me with kindness and respect. If I don't understand a billing matter, she sits down with me to explain it. Dr. Ryan is nothing short of an absolute gem. He genuinely cares about his patients. Dr. Ryan's staff are incredible. Each one of them is amazing. Every time a friend asks for a dental referral, it's always Dr. Ryan I send them to because you simply won't find a better dentist and staff anywhere in San Diego. The front desk at this office is very unpleasant to deal with. I had new insurance, and filled out all forms immediately when requested. The front desk was very difficult to deal with, and even after I showed them the plan, they wouldn't acknowledge my insurance. Therefore, I was notified that I "no showed". It seems they were more interested in a no show fee than actually providing services. read more

Dr Ryan replaced an old crown. It was an unexpectedly great experience. I didn't have any pain during the procedure or after. And I was able to eat dinner that evening, as though nothing had ever happened. It was incredible to sit and watch him shape my crown on the computer screen. Then the crown was created right then and there. No wait! The crown looks great and I couldn't be happier. The TV on the ceiling and headphones made the time fly by. read more

I would give this place a 5 star because the technician and dentist are great. Unfortunately I'm leaving this review at only three star because of the receptionist and her horrible customer service. I called 3-4 times on one occasion about a tooth ache. I received a text to book online. However, I had some questions that I needed answered before booking. No call back all day. Day two I called and left message. No call back, no response. I though wow maybe they are going out of business? So the next day, I went in, only to see that they are definitely still open! I spoke to the receptionist only to have her tell me, "well, I sent you the link to book online". I said I have questions. She answered them while I was face to face with her. But I should not have had to come all the way down to get my questions answered before booking. Horrible customer service. Call back your customers!!! Sometimes we need questions answered. The best of the best. Amazing staff and they take time to explain everything from services to procedures to insurance coverage. They also have the newest equipment, make things in house where before you waited a week for (crown) and I always feel comfortable. They truly go above and beyond. Forget coming here if you are older and not computer savvy. Our regular dentist had retired and we needed to find a new Dentist for an emergency when businesses re-opened on Jan. 5, 2026 after the holidays. We were there at 8:15am, my husband obviously in pain. We said we would like to become new patients and how soon could my husband be seen? The Office secretary couldn't be bothered with us. "We are modern," she said, "Everything is done through the website." Of course she could have helped us if she went to the website on her computer right there! I LOVE the Staff & my dentist, Dr. Ryan!! Coming here for almost 5 yrs -(with major work done) and ALWAYS receive exceptional care from EVERYONE. I have to add, that those two who posted that negative review, I DONT KNOW WHAT THEY ARE TALKING ABOUT!!!! I've never had any issues with anything!!!! The Office Manager specifically was incredibly kind and helpful. I was crying when I walked in and she went above and beyond to reassure me they were going to do everything to help me. AND THEY DID!! The manager was empathetic, professional, and thorough, and had taken all the time for me that I needed-even when she had to wait on another customer. I was treated like family. They cared about my financial situation as well as my health. On one visit I had to confirm my insurance and the manager walked me through each step- even guiding me through what to ask my insurance agent, which made the process seamless. Another time I did not have insurance and I had to finance go through a third-party that they were able to connect me with and they got me the best deal EVER!. It changed everything for me. I was a former patient of Dr. Ryan and had a positive experience with my former treatment. I attempted to call his office and ask either the Dr. or receptionist a simple medical question and they refused to speak with me over the phone. They state that they are a small office and only communicate through text messages. In regards to my previous review stating that the front office manager was rude and unprofessional. Dr. Ryan, I was most definitely not offered an appointment in two hours. I was told that I could not be seen for at least a week. I'm sorry that you are not being told the true story. I was told that you were in surgery but she refused to consult with you after surgery and get back to me. She said I was free to go elsewhere. A couple months ago I changed dentists. Did not write a review at that time. But a friend had same issues with office manager. The office manager told me I had no insurance., when I came in for an appt. My bank had missed a payment. When I got that straightened out I had my insurance call her twice to verify my insurance was current. She sent me a message of a computer screen she was looking at, which my insurance company couldnt identify. I asked her to verify my insurance before I made another appt. She told me that was between me and my insurance company. After several back and forths and much frustration I texted her to please verify my insurance again, which was current, She texted that they would do that when they had time. I waited a week for a return text, and received nothing. At that time I chose to leave that practice and go elsewhere. They also have a policy of not answering their phone but returning messages at their convience, or texting. Dr Ryan should be aware that this office manager, dont know her name, is ruining his practice. Looking at other reviews there seems to be a pattern of poor customer service. read more

This place is the BOMB! I just left my first appointment and cleaning... and am already having my husband book an appointment! The office is so clean, the staff is so friendly and effective. After more than 10 years with Mission Blvd Dental Group in PB, I was encouraged to move to Harbor when the old practice stopped taking Delta Dental. It seems that during my last checkup, MB took more than the prescribed 4 X-rays, causing Delta to consider it a full set - which is only reimbursed once every 5 years. Harbor refused to accept the set of 8 X-rays, claiming it does not meet their :Standard of Care", I would have to pay out of pocket. It is impossible to speak with a live person at Harbor, communication is via text or email, and new patient appointments are like unicorns. Moving on. read more

Horrible service from the front desk and scheduling team. They have recently changed their policy to a mandatory 48hrs notification for any cancellations AND rescheduling, which will charge you a hefty $55 fee for no show even if you had an emergency (including being in an ER apparently). The texts they sent regarding the change of policy was extremely vague and did not differentiate rescheduling vs cancellation, which will lead to financial harm from mislead information for their patients. When I got to see the doctor for only 20mins, after waiting for him for over 40mins in the room, all he did was trying to upsell me for procedures that I didn't need. The referral surgeons from him were overpriced. I would not recommend it to any of my friends or acquaintances. read more

Everyone at Harbor Family Dental is so nice! Ezzie, the office manager, is knowledgeable, responsive and helpful. When I had an emergency she got me in right away. Dr. Ryan is so nice and great at explaining processes and options. When it's appropriate he's referred to a specialist he trusts. I get to watch Netflix when I'm getting my cleanings done, which is an added bonus. The office is very clean and state of the art, and they have their own machine onsite to make crowns and such. I AM A TOOOOOOTAL DENTIST PHOBE!!!!! I HAAAAATE going to the dentist, but GUESS WHAT?!!!! I'm PRETTY sure they cured me!!! These dentists and their entire team is INCREDIBLE!!! I can't say enough about the amazing experience that I had at Harbor Dental this past week! The professionalism, consideration and dedication that I felt from the entire staff was next to none. I had a previous dentist for the last 10 years or so who recently retired, so I had no choice but to find a new provider. I'm always very cautious when selecting a dentist based on my parents also being a part of the dental industry in a different state. That said, I definitely did my research prior to booking my first appointment at Harbor Dental and was pretty impressed with their positive reviews! I was also pleasantly surprised to discover the ease of booking my appointment online and immediately being able to be seen the following day after conveniently uploading my new patient forms online. By the time I arrived in my appointment, my insurance benefits had already been verified and I was welcomed into an extremely warm and friendly environment! They even had a blanket, Chapstick, a nice goody bag and Netflix keyed up and ready to play for my visit - whoa! I was also pleasantly surprised that they were able to get me in for a secondary appointment the following day to complete my dental work based in large part on the modern technology/advancements they've invested in. Dr. Wallrich of course was absolutely phenomenal, and walked me through every step of the process to ensure that I was informed, educated , relaxed and most importantly, comfortable from start to finish with my procedure. That's a rare quality these days and something that I will be FOREVER grateful for. His work turned out absolutely beautiful and I am so appreciative that I found this wonderful office right here in my Point Loma community. The icing on the cake was when I left my second appointment with a really nice tote bag and water bottle during the check out process - which was also seamless. I mean - just WOW!! Literally the best dental experiment of my life. The office is so friendly, welcoming, and fancy! Very high tech. The dental chair has a warmer, I was met with a blanket ready and able to pick a Netflix show with headphones and the cleaning was pain free and quick. Cassandra did my X-rays and cleaning and was so sweet and personable. I just had my first visit and I will definitely be coming back! The office is very clean and modern and the staff are all super nice. I was checked in quickly, given a tour of the office and everything was explained clearly and thoroughly. On top of all this they have blankets and I was able to watch tv while getting my cleaning. The cleaning was very gentle but my teeth looked and felt amazing after. I didn't feel like I was being upsold any kind of treatment or product, they simply gave me recommendations for the best products and treatments for me.
