I just moved to New Jersey about a year ago and I've been dying to find an inexpensive African American beauty shop. Something simple, not crowded, not a lot of drama, and not hard to get an appointment. Doris's beauty salon is just that. I found her on Yelp and called Friday for an appointment for Saturday, she got back to me quickly after I left a message and I told her I needed my hair done. She worked with my schedule and told me to come by 11am. (on a Saturday mornings I know, rare) I asked how much she would be, she said 65, I expected much more!!! Keep in mind, her shop is in the back of the small complex, and push the door to enter, she even has parking, great to know for next time. She's sweet and works quickly. we started as soon as I arrived (around 11:20 traffic) and a lovely conversation later, around 1:00, I was sitting under the dryer with a complimentary bottle of water. (So nice) My locs look great, just like they did a few years ago when I first got them. I'll be back in a month or so for a touch up, and will tell my friends about her. She's priced well, will work with what you have, very kind, I was very comfortable, and she's close to me!!! Thanks so much Doris!

If I can give this person no star that'll suffice. Note, this review is not about the stylist and/or owner workmanship but it's directed to her lack of professionalism. I've never in my life encountered such rude behavior from a business owner or lack thereof.. Contacted her throughout this morning and afternoon via email concerning a consult with the addition of wanting a service done coupled with its respective price. The conversation was professional until I mentioned the price she quoted ($110) for a simple wash plus deep conditioning, trim, and flat iron was a bit pricey. North Jersey charges much less for the same services.. She responded which I thought was unnecessary and unwarranted with a "try a home stylist" who says that? A typical black salon that's who. Then when I voiced my disdain to her comment she concluded telling me how I can not afford her price and how she does not do "ghetto hair". Her email to me is below. Quote: not afraid of yep review at all. its unprofessional to bug someone all day about prices when its cleanly on the website... Its ok but thats what I charge. sorry you dont like my prices. your hiing to actually argue because you cant afford a slik press. yeah ok. your money issues aren't mine. be blessed love. I am 53 I dont work minimum wage sweetie. the younger girls and home stylist ate more of your speed. boy I tell... how TF you going to argue over my prices? you can just keep looking. I dont do ghetto hair Unquote: Now without knowing my economic background she asserts the above. All she could have said was ok take care. Update to respond to the owner comment- Was going to ignore you but had to respond as you're a liar and is very bored. Had to block her because she kept badgering me will also report this review. This is beyond nuts and you're acting like a stone nut right now. Seriously I sent you 16 emails and asked for a discount? Lady you're incompetent and your integrity is not showing as I only sent you 6 emails. My review is not a fake review and was merely based on your discretion as a business owner and not a stylist as I did not patronize your spot. Can you read? Note, this is my last exchange to you as my account of your behavior is true and you substantiate my opinions of you by the responses you've left in your commentary to my review.. Please see our exchange attached and when you count as in seeing my emails to you there are 6 & not 16.. Took multiple screen shots and they are attached for your review.

The shop is located right off Kings Highway on the White Horse Pike in Audubon. Easy access to all major roads. Very minor congestion and road blocks during high traffic times , Nice friendly atmosphere with great hospitality and very good service. Experienced little to no waiting and emerged with a fabulous hair style that lasted throughout the week.

Doris hair and beauty. I love my 360 weave. Doris is a true professional. I was beyond excited and happy.

What wonderful experience. I went for a consultation the week before, Doris was more than professional and welcoming. The next week was my appointment. I was more than pleased with my service. Doris is beyond professional, she is a true professional and truly cares and wants you to be happy with your service.

I came in with builder gel already on my nails, and while I agreed to remove the previous set and add a $10 French tip on 4 nails, I was never told about extra charges added at checkout for "soaking off" and "length." Charging extra for removal makes no sense when nails are typically filed down during a new set anyway, and charging for length feels like an unnecessary add-on since maintaining length is part of regular fills and sets. Listing lower prices online only to add surprise fees is misleading, so I'd recommend asking about every charge beforehand. What made this worse is less than two weeks later my builder gel started separating from my natural nails and one completely popped off. During the appointment my nails were also burning badly under the UV light, which has never happened to me before despite getting builder gel regularly for the last 8 months. I called twice to address the issue and the manager has yet to return my call. Between the hidden charges, poor quality work, and lack of customer service, this was by far the worst builder gel experience I've had.

I was in the market for a new salon to help me maintain the color block hair style I had. I first…read moretried them in May 2023, and have been returning for touch-ups every other month. Unfortunately, I experienced a tremendous amount of breakage when I moved to Thrive Salon to maintain my color style, even with every intervention and variable that I was able to control myself. (Tons of hair masks, silk bonnets, only air drying, wide-toothed combs rather than brushes, regular haircuts, high end shampoo/conditioner for color-treated hair, changing shampoo/conditioner to another color-safe one, oil sprays... you name it). I kept up with 7 week appointments at my stylist's request to help "minimize damage", but it didn't seem to do anything but put me out of more money, and result in me having less hair. I was dilligent about asking my stylist to do a "breakage check" every time I sat in her chair to try to prevent this. She always said everything looked great. In November, during my normal appointment, I cited that I was noticing substantial breakage. I should have listened to my gut when my stylist responded to my concerns with a surprise, stating "you usually see that up here" while pointing to my scalp. (In hindsight... yikes.) Despite my concerns that day, she didn't seem to heed additional cautions or change her approach. On that same day I cited bad breakage, she lifted a new brunette section of my hair (at my request in a desperate attempt to keep my hair style) *extremely* fast. What normally needs 3 sessions to go from my brunette to our target shade of blonde she somehow achieved in 1 with my roots, and could do in 2 to my ends. She was both surprised and excited at "how light it got" during my wash out. It seemed like she never had full control over her color processing, and didn't even know what she was expecting it to do. Needless to say, all of that hair started breaking in the following weeks, plus other strands. When I went to another salon to get a haircut (I find their haircuts to be outrageously priced at Thrive), the woman shared her concern with me on the health of my hair. She even questioned if Olaplex was being left out of my mix. I didn't have an answer. This salon, despite the high price tag, also doesn't include a basic rough dry for color services to check their work. They let people paying nearly $200 for color walk out with sopping wet hair. The manager assured that a rough dry ("not blow out, that was extra") was normal for color, so stylists could check their work before the customer leaves, but I was handed a blow dryer by the rinser last visit to do it myself while my stylist moved onto another client entirely. She didn't even check on me or say goodbye. It felt wrong. I was paying ~$250 every 8 weeks but couldn't get a rough dry? I had to drive home with wet hair? Despite the poor outcome with their color service, I also observed that I was being charged different ways and different prices for my exact same service every time I went. I was never given a heads up about the price differences, and only found out at the register after my stylist had left. At one point, I was charged for a haircut that I declined in the chair. (Thankfully I noticed!) After I was rung up, I told the man at the desk, and he quickly said "oh, well you got your hair dried, so we have to charge you for a blowout". The price of the blowout helped them retain all of the mischarge for the haircut I never got. It felt very shady to me. (Remember how the rough dry was supposed to be included?) Generally, I find this salon to be very expensive for the skill I was shown. I thought the price I was paying for my color blocking was fair, but seeing that I had so much breakage, maybe it was over-priced like some of their other a la carte menu. ($75 for a *trim* is too rich for my blood.) I'm leaving an extra star despite my experience because when I did have a chance to speak with the salon manager, she was open to feedback, stayed true to her promises of when she would get back to me, and offered a refund for the past haircut/blowout fiasco I retold above. She understandably stood behind her staff, but I was disappointed that the stylist's word was always taken over the customer's. (I have no reason to lie about a service I didn't receive....) They also got me in quickly around the very busy holidays when I called and let them know more of my hair was breaking and I needed to come in to resolve it with my stylist. I appreciate them doing that for me. One last shoutout - Jen at the wash station was seriously a highlight of my experience. Love her and wish the best for her.

If you're looking for something to be done for a special occasion or you're looking to treat yourself I'd recommend this place to anyone. Something to note is that Rizzieri is definitely on the more expensive side salon wise. It isn't Birkin Bag astronomical but for a guy like me, you'll pay $70 before tip for a cut and shampoo. Most other barbers or salons charge around $40 but at the same time, you're paying for the quality of the cut. I have no complaints in that department. I know that some guys prefer the barber atmosphere and to that end, they do have a side room with two or three chairs that are specifically for men. I've tried that side area once and have no complaints. Preferably I just like the traditional open area salon over the barber area but, that's just me. My fiance and I love this spot.

It looked horrendous -super choppy and uneven. I also got my hair styled here for prom, and not only did they severely burn my ear and hair, but the final style looked nothing like what I had asked for and wasn't flattering at all.
