These tamales deserve more than five stars. The owners deserve more than five stars. The tamales are delicious and have been for years. I used to go when Doris sold them and now her son and daughter in law keep up the tradition. They have an adorable little girl also, sometimes in shop helping her mama. If you like tamales please give them a try. You have to get there early or they will be gone. Give them a call early and they will save them for you. Doris' Hot Tamales is a must stop for the tamale connoisseur. My sister has been telling me about this place for a long time and I was finally able to visit. For tamale experts who remember Manuel's hot tamales, Doris' tamales are similar. Doris' tamales are very good, but not as good as the Manuel's hot tamales that New Orleans' residents remember from the 1970's. Doris, the Hot Tamale Lady, creates medium sized tamales with seasoned meat. Similar to most good tamales, Doris' tamales are greasy. I get nervous when I see a tamale that isn't greasy! Her tamales had a thick corn meal dough outer layer and a mild spicy meat interior. Each tamale is individually wrapped in paper. These tamales were very good, but I recommend adding a little more cayenne spice to kick it up a notch. Doris' little building is located off the main drag in D'Iberville, MS. All food is to go and they have one picnic table outside along with a coke machine. This is a small family owned operation that had to rebuild after Hurricane Katrina. I recommend stopping by to get your tamale fix and to support this mom & pop shop. read more

I've been hearing from a friend that I need to try these and finally found them open for business. I bought five, tried one and left the rest for the family to try. After everyone got their fill, we all had the same feeling: This is more of an Americanized tamale than an authentic Spanish tamale. It's not bad, but it either needs more salsa or salt in the masa. It just needs more of an identity. Clearly, these tamales are loved, as it took four trips to finally get to try this. This is the cutest little building. I ran into this place going to the Scarlet Pearl Casino. I was so excited and couldn't wait to get some tamales! I am unsure how Doris' Hot Tameles doesn't have a review yet. Is it just that far off the beaten path, buried in the no-man's land between I-10 and Biloxi that is D'Iberville? I'm okay with that - this place is worth the stop. I found it by doing a little research on the "Hot Tamale Trail" that runs through Mississippi - driving east on I10 towards Destin I was hoping I could catch one of these institutions and, luckily, Doris' fits the bill. So here's what you'll get - beef tamales. That's it. Nothing else. But that's also a good thing. My wife and I rolled up around 1pm and ordered a half dozen - luckily there's a little area to sit next to the stall - and we devoured them. During the 10 minutes we were there at least 5 other people came up to take some home (several ordering dozens of tamales at a time). The tamales themselves were very tasty. Greasy, yes - but that's to be expected. They were moist and spiced just right. read more

This family has been serving Biloxi with tamales since 1946. They have absolutely the best tamales ever. That's all they sell. Also they will freeze them if you call the day before. Great place, great tamales. read more

You know, I'm gonna up this place a star ;). Popped in last week to grab some tamales to go for the folks, and unlike my first experience, they were NOT slathered in grease. Just the right amount of spice, masa, and moisture to make them wonderful. Again, these are DELTA tamales, and they are not meant to be like other regional varieties. I arrived before they opened because I've heard this place is good and once they sell out of tamales that's it for the day. Absolutely worth the wait!!!! They only offer one flavor, beef, but they were delicious! I'd say the tamales are probably half the size of tamales you'd get somewhere else. It's cash only so make sure you swing by the ATM and pull out all your pennies prior to arrival. You won't regret it! I will be back as many times as I can squeeze in before leaving here in five weeks. read more

You really gotta give it to these folks for carrying on their mom's legacy. They are the sweetest people and the food is quality. The one thing you should know is that they do one thing and one thing only--beef tamales American style. So that makes it simple. Just order however many you want of their one flavor. It's simple and simply good. No frills wrapped/steamed in paper. The flavor is very mild and they are not greasy. You can get change for the canned drink machine located by the outside dining table. The place is petite like the tamales and it is well worth the experience. This much loved little local icon serves many a customer streaming by for take home and quick snacks. It's a quaint little hut with a tamales making history that dated back. Looks like it's a family run business and they're proud of their product. At a little more than a dollar per tamales, it's not a bad deal at all. However, they only have beef tamales, no other variety. These are definitely different than your typical tamales. They're rolled up in parchment paper instead of corn husk. The beef filling almost tasted like a beef paste. Overall, these tamales are a-okay. I appreciate the history behind it, but I still prefer typical tamales. read more

Tucked neatly behind Pepe's Mexican Restaurant, this little jewel has been in business for many years at the same location. You'll not find a better tasting tamale anywhere on the Gulf Coast. Mostly take-out, it is very convenient to stop and pick up a couple dozen to take home for a quick meal, or (like I do) freeze them for future entrees. It's mostly patronized by locals, because most people have not discovered this wonderful, longtime favorite. read more
