Yep, I found this restaurant on YELP. We wanted some delicious Mexican food, and La Nortena had it. This cozy restaurant is located in a residential area, about 15 minutes from the casinos. The service was awesome and the food was amazing. I ordered enchiladas, chicken, beef and cheese, they were very tasty, served with fluffy rice and creamy beans. This restaurant is connected with a market with lots of goodies, they have spices, veggies, teas, snacks, accessories and much more. Parking is easy. They have a parking lot on premises. read more

I was very surprised with this place. I just needed a place close to base to get some food and wanted Mexican food which is really close to the main gate. It's located near the residential homes and they also have a Mexican store attached to the restaurant. The food was good. I placed a take out order and was ready in 10 minutes. I ended up getting three tacos and side order of red rice and beans. Very authentic. Also got a tres leches and it was good. Must try if you are near the area and want something close. read more

I'm from south Texas so my standards for Mexican food are pretty high and this place lives up to them! The service was great and very fast and the food was delicious! My family and I got a fajita mixta plate, tacos, a torta and chocolate-flan for dessert and all of the food tasted very fresh and authentic. Authentic, fresh, delicious, and at a really great price. We just moved from San Diego where they have some of the best Mexican food and this place is honestly just as great. The waitress was kind and attentive to us as she served 4 other tables. I ordered the steak taco and the pork taco. I had a side of rice and beans. So yummy. The pork was tender and marinated well. Though the rice could have had some more flavor. We were also given complimentary chips and salsa. The chips were still warm and the salsa was awesome. The waitress told me that everything is fresh. No wonder why it's so yummy. We will be back! It is also connected to a small Mexican grocery store. It is nice to know that this is available right here in Mississippi. read more

Very unimpressed and disappointed. I'm all for the mom and pop restaurants that may not have the best appearance but have amazing food. However, this place was not that case AT ALL. It lacks appearance, food and friendliness. The waitress was rude and standoffish-not to mention we never got offered a refill on our chips and salsa. Not like we wanted a refill on it anyway the chips were stale and the salsa tasted very bland. I ordered tacos because it was Tuesday and ya know taco Tuesday...and i was very disappointed. The Pastor tacos lacked the flavorful sweet and spicy kick that it typically has. Instead the taco looked like minced meat and tasted like steak. I would post photos but I keep eating everything before I review. This is just my second time here. But I've had five different types of tacos and really enjoyed them all. I'm a bit of a taco junkie so I haven't eaten anything else yet. But their tacos are excellent as are the sauces that you get with them. Everything is priced as individual items. 3 or 4 tacos should be plenty for anyone. The first visit with a 16.9oz bottle of coke cost me just under 10 bucks. And I wasn't hungry afterwards. This time I had 4 and I am definitely full. I think the tacos run about 2.25 or 2.50 each. The restaurant itself is attached to a store and only has about 8 or 9 tables. But it's definitely a nice place to sit, have a meal and a drink. read more

Cute little taqueria adjacent to a grocery store not too far from the casinos on Porter. The tacos and the horchata were delicious, however, the standout delicacy was the Gordita. The homemade Gordita shell was memorable and the filling was ample. A very tasty change from a regular taco. We will definitely be back. read more

Thank you Yelp! I found this little place while searching around on Cinco de Mayo, of all dates. My go-to Mexican joint in Biloxi was too crowded to breath and wasn't feeling, well, very mexicanish. Disgusted, I decided there had to be something better in town, some place that didn't serve Margaritas from powdered mix or nuke all their food. Saw this place on the list and decided the 4 other reviews couldn't be wrong..... Ok, here's the dish. La Norenta's is part Mexican market (think Bodega) and part casual family restaurant. No frills and no pretenses, this place obviously caters to the local Hispanic population. Points for making food to order, I could actually see the lady shredding cheese for my plate. Speaking of cheese, I didn't particularly care for the velveeta-like cheese covering my chimichanga, but that's my only complaint food-wise. Everything else was fresh and delicious, especially the chimichanga itself. Bottom line, if you're looking for snazzy bar specials and a buzzing scene, look elsewhere. If you want authentic Latino food at reasonable prices, look here. I most assuredly will the next time I'm in the area and get da craving! read more

I've hit this place a few more times since my review, including last night. What the heck, I'll give it all five stars, 'cuz I don't think I'm going to find anything better unless I go down to Beach Blvd and head south. Last night I decided to go with the shrimp tostadas, and boy were they good. The shrimp were cooked rather than ceviche and piled on crisp corn tortillas with a fresh and delicious pico de gallo, avocado slices, and a hint of lime juice. They came with a little container of achiote seasoning and two bowls of salsa, a fresh salsa verde and a roasted pepper salsa. Seemed like everything tasted good on the tostadas, but they might have been best just as they came. They seemed a bit pricy at 12 bucks or so, but that was before I knew there were three of them in an order. They're cheap at that price. And delicious. Did I say delicious already? Next time, I'm going for the alambres! read more

Wow, what a gem! I tried this place a few days ago, and I'll tell you, it won't get much better around here than this. I tried the shrimp chimichanga. It was so good, I checked under the foil to see if I could find some loose pieces. The horchata was on point. We were visiting from out of town. I searched in Yelp for a Mexican joint. First place was randomly closed on Sunday (bosque something). I took 5 years of Spanish 14 years ago and really wish I had kept up with that. It would've helped here. There is a HUGE language barrier. I got a few tacos: carnitas, asada, and chorizo. They were served with cilantro and diced onion. Delicious and simple. Added green salsa to each. Chorizo was my favorite. Husband got a burrito grande (I think) and of had everything in it (rice, beans, steak, guac). He loved it. My kids both loved the rice and beans. But the beans were oddly greasy. Never had beans so greasy before. They were good though. I will tell all of my friends that live there to give this place a try. read more

The food is pretty good. It is definitely a no frills atmosphere and is located in a grocery store. The Chilaquiles are really good, but I could tell that the salsa they brought out with some chips came from a jar...like Tostitos salsa...super watered down and flavorless. To me that is just laziness. I worked in and managed Mexican restaurants for years, so I understand that food cost can sometimes cause people to cut corners on things and in the grand scheme of things, chip salsa isn't a big deal. However it wasn't a great way to start off the meal. The service is slow, but the servers are pleasant and I think they also cook the food, so it explains the speed. Luckily, the main course is always good and that is really all that matters. Definitely give it a try and see what you think. read more

4 of us were visiting Crusin' the Coast & we decided to try La Nortena. We were a little concerned when we got there. The restaurant was small & we were the only ones there. After a little confusion we were able to order. The food was great. The fresh guacamole was fantastic. The green & red salsas were also very good. My steak fajita was excellent. Very small place adjoining a mexican grocery store, you have to walk through the store to get to the dining room. I walked in about 45 minutes after their listed lunch time. I ordered al-la-carte as I like variety. Ordered and enchilada, taco and chalupa. OK, i know that is boring but what can I say. There were several lunch menu items showing tamale's so I also requested one first, and was told they had none... maybe Friday (this was Monday)... Alas, I expressed my disappointment so went with the chalupa instead. Requested water and the gave me some standard grocery store variety of bottled water. I will say the food I did get was GREAT. I've eaten a lot of Mexican and Tex-Mex food in my life and this place ranks as one of the best in terms of food quality and taste. Both the steak and chicken enchiladas are some of the best I've ever eaten. Both meats are grilled and seasoned instead of being boiled and shredded and ground. In addition, the refried beans are delicious too. The chips that come with the salsa prior to the main course are dry and crisp with minimal grease and the salsa is delicious. The salsa is of a low to medium spiciness but delicious non the less for this "heat" lover. The restaurant is one half of a small grocery/restaurant. It is clean and of minimal but colorful décor so don't expect extravagant ambiance but do come for the delicious food. In terms of food quality this place beats the big chains any day. The enchilada plates come to $9 with tax for the dinner price. read more
