From the beautiful rustic atmosphere to the delicious food, the restaurant makes you want to stay and savor every aspect of the meal, then plan for your inevitable return. Adam was our server, and he took wonderful care of us! We started with wonderful warm garlic rolls and marinara sauce, then a very nice bottle of Italian red wine. The House and Caesar salads were good ways to prepare for the main courses. I had the Crab and Lobster Ravioli which was spectacular, and my wife had the Tuscan Chicken that was equally as fantastic. The portion sizes were healthy, and we judiciously made sure not to overeat so that we could box up leftovers for tomorrow while allowing ourselves the ability to splurge on desserts. We had a rough day - nothing went right and decided we were "owed" a nice dinner. Andrea, our server, was just who we needed to bring us amazing comfort food. We shared a Caesar which was crisp and seasoned just right. Garlic nots that were huge and tasty. I really like the fact that I could get a "half" order of my fav - chicken Parmesan. Although it was a busy Saturday night, I managed to get seated in short order in a second floor booth. The wall have dark rustic wood that lends to a sophisticated atmosphere. All the staff were friendly and attentive and I only lacked for a drink fill once during my visit. The complimentary bread was soft and coated with a sprinkle of Parmesan crumbles. But the hero was the ramekin of marina, full of chunks of fresh vegetables and full of flavor. It was sweet, it was tangy, it was aromatic, it was garlicky, and it was all of them in perfect balance. We also had a starter of the bruschetta (we asked them to hold the balsamic glaze) and all the toppings were fresh. My entree was the veal piccata and the veal was tender enough to cut with a fork. With capers and a lemon sauce, I expected it to be tangy, but this representation of the dish was a tad too sour for me. But based on everything else, I would love to explore the rest of the menu and especially try something in that delicious marina. read more

I love that downtown Calhoun has Doro's! It's such a unique place to eat in our little town. The restaurant is right downtown, so you can enjoy a nice walk afterward if you'd like. I've been here quite a few times and have never had a bad experience -- the staff are always friendly and welcoming. My absolute favorite dishes are the fettuccine Alfredo and the fried cheese ravioli! The bread and marinara before the meal are always so fresh and delicious, too. Honestly, everything we've ever ordered here has been great. The downstairs dining area is small but cozy, and they often open the upstairs for additional seating. If you have a larger group, I'd recommend calling ahead. There's also a bar for cocktails, making it a great spot for either lunch or a nice dinner out! read more

I LOVE finding hidden gems here! Doro's Italian Restaurant was amazing! Their pizza tasted so good and not greasy. We ordered the Meat Loved pizza it comes with pepperoni, sausage, ham and bacon. The topping tasted fresh and the crust was perfect. Per the photo my 2 year old couldn't wait to take a slice. The Penne Classico is also AMAZING. Packed with Italian sausage, mixed peppers & onions in a Marinara sauce. Not pictured was my toddlers French fries which arrived nice a hot and the perfect crisp. I give this a 12 out of 10. My friends and I were looking for a place to meet somewhere between our respective cities, and we settled on Calhoun and Doro's Italian. Our hotel clerk said this place is the best restaurant in Calhoun, and after dinner there, I believe it. It was Hollywood perfect, from the service to the decor. Our table tried the Canelloni, the Puttanesca, Chicken Parm (half serving was PLENTY), and the shrimp scampi. Also, the rolls are fantastic. For dessert, we shared the tiramisu. The rolls are usually good and fresh the food well I've had many things here the calzones and pizza are good the dishes like chicken parm are like I ate a frozen chicken patty could be just the breading I'm just not a fan let's put it that way. Tried Doro's for the first time tonight for dinner. We were greeted and seated very quickly even though most tables were full. The restaurant has a nice rustic Italian ambiance with brick walls and pictures of historic Calhoun places. We ordered the Sautéed Mussels in a lemon garlic butter sauce and Caprese. The Caprese was great. The mussels themselves were good, but the sauce left something to be desired. Could use some extra flavor IMO. Pesto Pasta and the Cannelloni Florentina were flavorful and good sized portions as well. We finished off with the mini cannolis that were fresh and crunchy, very good! I rarely if ever give 5 stars to anything. Doro's is the exception. My wife and I ate there Saturday for lunch. Opening the door took us to an old Italian dining experience. The walls were broken plaster revealing old bricks. The tables were nicely kept. The register was at the back which kept the business part of it separated. This place has an authentic feel. The ambiance was exceptional. Now for the food....OUTSTANDING! We have ravioli appetizer and sauce. delicious. We each had a chicken dish, delicious. Dessert delicious. Now for the service....oh my this waitress was great. we sat close to the door in an enclosed booth...even the booth had an authentic feel. She was an outstanding server, professional, polite, well versed with menu and when my wife asked for a recommendation, she didn't hesitate, she said ok, heres my top 3 dishes....and the one my wife chose did not disappoint...it was chicken with a lemon flavor capers and fettuccini. I placed a to-go order. When I arrived I noticed the inside has a unpretentious and romantic atmosphere. If you like Italian, you'll love this place and the food. I think it would be great for a date night, but mind you, it gets busy after 5:30 PM on the weekends even though there is both upstairs and downstairs seating. I chose the chicken piccata and it is so aromatic and yummy! There's a perfect amount of sauce which is buttery and lemony. The chicken is lightly breaded, pounded thin, & sautéed. It's very tasty and tender and it came with about 4 slices. The angel hair noodles are boiled to perfection and overall there's enough to share or have leftovers. The capers and sautéed garlic pieces make the meal! I had to have garlic bread so I ordered a side. The yeast knot rolls are sprinkled with parmesan cheese and the accompanying red sauce is herbaceous and has a great garlic flavor. The unsweet tea with a splash of sweet washed it all down. I recommend this dish and want to come back and try the Seafood Pasta With Lemon Butter. The cost was $27 which isn't that bad if you get 2 meals out it like I do. As a bonus, since it's in the downtown area, there's shopping all around and I stopped at the boutique next door and scored a cute skirt off the sale rack for $10! read more

Tory / Tori was an amazing waitress - I had no idea this gem was in Calhoun. Food was GREAT, and of course this restaurant location has always had a great ambiance. I ordered the suggested CANNELLONI FLORENTINA, which was phenomenal. I also ordered a pizza-to-go and I'm told it was one of the best pizzas my friend who loves pizza has had. Yesterday was the first time my wife and I tried Doro's and it was wonderful. I had the Penne Classico and my wife had the Penne alla Florentino. Our waiter started us off with some and immediately had us hooked! The marinara sauce is to die for!!! The rolls were hot and fresh and the only thing I would recommend is to add more minced garlic on the rolls. When they brought out our plates we were daunted by the amount of food. The serving was huge! And oh my goodness, sooo good!!! Doro's is awesome, we love it and will definitely be going back as often as possible. It is a small shop and it is recommended to make a reservation unless you don't mind waiting for a table. We timed it just right and got in early. This location has newly opened in the old Thurston's Cafe location, in downtown Calhoun. If you have ever been there it is a really small hole in the wall type of place, but as you know sometimes those are the best places. Doro's didn't disappoint! The atmosphere was lively with top pop songs playing in the background, which was fine but would have loved it if they were playing more Italian type music (old Dean Martin and Frank Sinatra, etc.) The place was really crowded and the lobby is very small. They had two tables by the window but would probably be better to remove those tables and put chairs or benches for people waiting as those tables weren't being used. Everyone was friendly and we really didn't have to wait too long for a table. They told us about 25-35 mins and I think we waited maybe 15 mins. The wait staff was very attentive as well, but sometimes seemed a little distracted as they were busy. The food was amazing!!! Best Chicken Parm with spaghetti I've had in years!!! Highly recommend. It was a huge portion for the whole order, that my son and I ended up splitting. We also got the cheese sticks appetizer and they were solid and freshly made. The breading was very heavy and lacked some flavoring but they were decent. My wife also go a different pasta dish those we can't remember the name of it but she really liked it. The rolls were good though we could have eaten more of those. The only complaint and this is minor, was I wish for the price the meal came with a soup or salad. They have soups and salads but you have to pay extra for those so that was a little disappointing as we didn't want to pay extra. The pricing is very typical for an Italian restaurant. All in all we highly recommend Doro's and will for sure be back soon for more chicken Parm and to try some of their other dishes. read more
