So....very upset about my last visit. We came in for lunch on National Margarita Day(2/22) cause their mango is my favorite, and had a great lunch. Nachos, lunch taco plate, and 4 margaritas. Today I see my bank statement and we were charge an extra $30 on our ticket. The service was terrible that day because we came in at that odd between lunch and dinner time so it took forever to get someone to refil chips and drinks, but I clearly remember filling out the ticket WITH at tip and it was $62. Today my bank statement shows they ran $90. Of course they can't do anything unless I have my receipt, which I don't because I had no complaints and it was just a quick lunch. Yeah, so, veeerrryyy mediocre if not subpar Mexican food at unnecessarily high prices. If you 're looking for NOVA quality Mexican food at NOVA prices, this is definitely your kind of place. I would prolly try somewhere else, though, since it prolly can't get much worse. Also, apparently they stopped doing the Tuesday all day $4 beer special in the last couple of weeks and didn't tell anybody or remove it from their website. Not sure what other specials they stopped doing but you won't know about it until you get your bill. I was there the Tues before last and that special was still running. Didn't know it wasn't still a thing until the waitress brought me my tab tonight. Still charged me $6.50 for a Modelo. Pretty sure the waitress was lying though and just wanted more money and/or didn't feel like going through the hassle of changing it. Can't be sure but won't be going back to find out. Pretty angering actually and I think management needs to look into this because I was somewhat of a regular but it was upsetting enough to the point where I will not be returning ever again. Really do not want to leave this type of review for a business during a pandemic but my only other option is to say nothing, but sites like this are built to hold businesses accountable for crappy practices. Open kitchen where you can watch the chefs do their thing - they're also very friendly and personally welcome guests. Everything that you'd expect to be good IS good (burritos, tacos, fajitas) but I'd recommend trying a few other dishes. My personal favs are chile rellenos (if I'm really hungry) and shrimp and avocado salad. My wife keeps begging the chef for the honey lime vinegrette recipe. read more

Went to Dos amigos on Friday night with my boyfriend, we were seated immediately and had an amazing waitress named Rhonda. Service was phenomenal all the food was delicious especially the ceviche which apparently they only make on Friday nights -so I strongly suggest that you go in for the ceviche. The steak and shrimp fajitas were great chicken was a little bit lacking their queso dip was awesome and they have a delicious selection of margaritas. The place is small we got there little after seven and by the time we left there was practically a line out the door. Definitely suggest making this an early dinner or happy hour venue. read more

Great Beef Enchiladas, rice & Beans. Plenty of ground beef, seasoned and not soupy. Rice was perfectly cook, not sticky and the pintos were tasty. Best salsa I've had an awhile, nice and clunky. Probably need to work on there chips. read more

Not only do they have the best happy hour margaritas in town (rocks & frozen), they have really great food, and are so conveniently located to the Braddock metro. My personal favs are the queso with chorizo, quesadillas, and tacos al carbon. But, the flautas and enchiladas are delicious too! I've never had bad service here. The food was mediocre. I have no idea how this has such good ratings on Yelp! The decor and the feel of the restaurant is very underwhelming. The complimentary chips were crunchy but they left a greasy taste in my mouth. The salsa was pretty much a jacuzzi of onions. The guacamole didn't taste fresh and it was very mushy. I got enchiladas and my fiancé got a chicken chimichanga; they were edible, but certainly not delicious. We're surely not coming back to this place. read more

The food is great and I'll be coming back for take out. The service dropped my rating down. I was eating alone after work one day. I ignored a few flirty comments from my waiter (I was and am wearing my engagement and wedding rings). During my meal I spilled my drink. There was no one to be found, so I jumped from my seat to avoid getting soda on my clothes and found my waiter at the bar. I told him I spilled my drink and asked for a towel. He told me, nicely, to sit down. I went back to my table and waited (my plate and silverware were drenched by now). He came back with a towel and I tried to take it to clean up my mess. He took my hand and said, "Shh... You have beautiful eyes." I'm not sure what face I made, I'm sure it was an uncomfortable one, & took my hand back. I mopped up the table while the waiter went to get a mop bucket. I apologized and he tried to "soothe" me again, at which point I asked for the check. My waiter led me by the hand to the register, by which point I broke my hand free. He apologized and said that's how he acts with his girl friends. Creepy. I paid (and tipped-- I'm not a monster) and left. If there is going to be another visit in my future I think I'll get take out. read more

I'm from California and grew up on Mexican food. I've waited for years for a good Mexican restaurant, and now here it is in my neighborhood. Every meal I have had has been excellent. Been here three times now - very solid mexican place in Alexandria. Normally, for the food at a place like this, I would give four stars, but there are some other reasons why this one deserves special accolades. By category, my review goes like this: Food: 5 star Service: 5 star Decor and atmosphere: 3 Star Price: 5 Star Basically, this is your standard affordable mexican joint. The servings are very generous for the price, which is very affordable. All the standards like enchiladas, chimichangas, and tacos are around $11-12, with as usual, fajitas or special entrees a little more. All of the staff is extremely freindly, capable and very attentive. The food comes up fast - I have yet to wait more than 5 minutes or so from when we ordered to get our food delivered. The ingredients are fresh (don't miss the guac!) and the beer list is solid. Ricardo the owner is very friendly and will often stop for a chat with the customers to make sure the experience is just right. The one weak point is on the decor, which is a bit bland, but far from offensive. This is the least important area in my book, and is far secondary to quality of food and service. Still, the place is extremely clean and comfortable, and they make you feel welcome from the moment you step inside the door. So, why five stars? There are two extra points here - one is location. It's about 200 feet from the entrance from entrance of Braddock Road Metro station. It's the perfect place for a cheap filling meal after a hard day of work without having to trek out again. It's nestled right on the line between Del Ray and Old town, so it's easy for everyone to get to and if you're driving it's only a few blocks from the GW Parkway and Route 1. Two, is that this place is very civilized. Del Ray has become a jungle of malajusted toddlers and overindulgent parents in recent years, and so far, I have yet to be forced to endure the shrieking of somebody else's children. I know this sounds trivial, but anyone who has spent time at Los Tios just down the street from here will instantly appreciate this quality. That's not to say it's not kid friendly - it just equally adult friendly (unlike 80% of Del Ray these days). read more

So, I absolutely love the tortilla chips here. The salsa... not so much because it is very watered down and doesn't have much of a kick to it. I ordered the burrito (half shrimp/half steak). It was pretty good but next time I will stick with the steak. This place serves huge portions and it's very inexpensive. Not the best Mexicanu joint but not the worse. But the food is good so I would come back! Service was very good too. During our visit, one of the customers tried to get belligerent with the owner's son, but the son handled it well and deescalated the situation. Very professional staff. read more

Dos Amigos reminds of why I so much prefer locally owned restaurants to chains; owners are onsite and involved and show that they care. That's true here too. Since this place is only two blocks from my place, I was happy to see this location finally have a decent restaurant since the closing of the popular Italian place in the same location right across the street from the Braddock Road Metro Station. I've eaten here four times in the past month, and every time the food's been great. The first time I sat at the bar near the grill (sitting here you can both watch a game on TV and talk to one of the owners); I ordered the beef and chicken fajitas, they were perfect! Plenty of everything, piping hot and tender meat and veggies; I couldn't be happier and couldn't eat it all. The second time a week later there were three of us, ordered the beef burrito, once again it was great! Next time I had the grilled beef enchiladas, the plate looked so good I had to take a photo and share it with friends; the enchiladas tasted even better, I almost licked the plate clean! On my most recent visit I got the enchiladas again (they were so good the first time that I strayed from my plan to try different items on the menu, couldn't resist it). The only reasons I am not giving Los Amigos a five star rating are that the salsa they bring to the table is a little watery and with too much chopped onions for my preference and they are still working some of the kinks out in the order/service area. Otherwise this is a solid choice for really well prepared flavorful food. The staff is very friendly and helpful, all nice folks. I'm happy this place is right down the street, now I have another good dining choice within short walking distance. Sweet! I've upgraded my rating to five stars. The food, service and friendliness are so consistently good I have to give them their due. This is a real local gem!!! read more

The 4 star average at Dos Amigos, to me, is a testament to the fact that the Braddock Road Metro neighborhood desperately needs more restaurants. I've been here a couple of times in a pinch and the food is really just OK. The inside is pretty dingy. Staff always seems overwhelmed, even when the restaurant isn't crowded. If you want good food and a good dining experience, take the longer walk to King St or Del Ray. read more

We love a good taco place. Living in Southern Maryland we have been disappointed. From the moment we sat down we felt welcomed and the atmosphere was totally relaxed. Solid! I think they make their own tortilla chips which come out warm and crispy. Beef and cheese enchiladas were both very good, as well as the beef taco. Chile Relleno wasn't the best I've ever had, but it was far from bad too. Bartender made a fantastic Bloody Mary, which I complimented and he seemed genuinely pleased to hear. Rice and beans were better than most. Guacamole was large enough for two, but we had to spice it up with salt, pepper, and hot sauce which really woke it up. If there's a downside, it was finding the place. I admittedly never go in this area and had a tough time finding it. The GPS says "You have arrived", and all I could see was a 7-11 :-) Once you do find it, there is parking in a garage behind it but not a lot of spaces. I returned at the request of others who said my review was misguided and was underwhelmed again. Had a beef chimi that was just ok. I'm not sure what the spice they use on the rice and beans are but it is aggressive and off putting all at the same time. Add in a some what attentive server and you have a repeat of my last experience. Maybe it's just me, it's always crowded. Or maybe it's the only place open near the Braddock road metro apart from the 7 Eleven? I'll probably go there and get a chicken diablo sandwich and a slurpee. read more

I live right by the place and so have visited a handful of times. The food is fine. It's not excellent, and it's not bad. For DC-area Mexican, you can do a lot worse. I don't think their guacamole is truly handmade, for example, but I also don't think they are serving a bunch of reheated Sysco food. The service is hit or miss, leaning a little to the hit side. Generally, the service is friendly and fairly quick. Sometimes, though, it seems like the employees get a little too preoccupied with their personal conversations with each other. I've ended up sort of just sitting there waiting a few times while the server or bartender just blathered on to someone else. I would give the place 3 stars but I bumped them down for climate control issues. It always seems to be WAY too hot in there, like the AC doesn't work properly. One time I actually got up and walked outside to wait for my boyfriend to finish his meal because I was starting to feel very uncomfortable in the heat inside. It was over 85 degrees outside at this time, and I still felt cooler outside. I no longer eat there unless it is cold outside. read more

My wife got the nachos, which weren't the normal pile of nachos I expected; I would have been disappointed by their lack of volume but she swears they were the best nachos she's had. We love Dos Amigos!!!! The salsa and chips are the best in the area. They've got a good selection of tequilas and will customize your margarita even if you're ordering off the menu. Anything with seafood is outstanding - the shrimp dishes especially. Request the black beans instead of pintos - the pintos are fine, but the black beans are marvelous. They make everything, or nearly everything, from scratch - and the black beans are long-simmered with the chef's semi-secret approach. The daily specials are just that, not a list of specials that is basically repeated over and over; pretty much anything on the nightly specials list is a good bet. If you're not sure, ask Jose behind the bar to suggest one of his favorites. It's great for girlfriends to do a casual dinner together; grabbing a drink after arriving at Braddock Metro; a midweek date night; and while they're very very welcoming to kids, Dos Amigos never gets close to that ear-shattering din that Los Tios sometimes achieves. We're so lucky to have such a great Tex Mex spot in the neighborhood. read more

Authentic and fresh with creative menu selections I have never seen. Chips and salsa were as fresh as can be. Food was cooked right in plain view of the dining room. No microwave or shortcuts. Mediocre, at best. I had the enchiladas and my friend had the grilled chicken quesadillas. Neither of us were impressed with our food. The guac also wasn't fresh, and chips were greasy. We ordered margaritas and realized my friend forgot his ID at home so I can't comment on the drinks (they declined to serve them to us although we are, and look, far over 21) but I can't fault them for following the law. Just wish the food was more memorable. I've yet to find awesome Tex mex in the del ray or old town area. read more
