Nice clean seating area with plenty of tables & booths. Front counter organized & menu easy to read & follow. Family owned, looks like a couple generations working the front & some cooking in the back. I love Mom & Pops especially when they are awesome such as this one. The food is definitely prepared fresh so be prepared to wait (this is not a taco bell), if in a rush (call ahead). The Beef Tacos were delicious, followed by a life changer Steak Burrito and a good Chicken Burrito. Shared with my Granddaughter, and we both agreed we have been missing out. I asked for no tomatoes, but they forgot, but they were so good, I actually did not mind. This seems to be one of those local neighborhood restaurants that has their regular frequent flyers, and that's a good thing. As I was here I noticed that people took their time eating and conversing, which is nice. Wait staff was nice too so I enjoyed that. The food though, was not good. Some places I come across don't season their food at all, so I'm always grateful for those that do. This place however, over seasoned the food. I felt like I was eating salt disguised as tacos, rice and beans. Good portion sizes in the tacos so that was cool, but too salty and the tortillas tasted as if they were straight out of the package. The beans weren't even beans, it was more like a bean paste that was runny and salty. The rice was white rice with peas, and seemed to have less salt than everything else. I didn't finish the beans nor the rice, and the tacos I finished out of self-imposed guilt of not finishing. Can't say I'll be back to try anything else on the menu. read more

Have eaten at Taco Lucas about 20 times and bring visitors and new friends there as a special treat. Food, especially the chicken burrito, my favorite, is great. Don't expect to have your food served immediately. It is being prepared fresh in the kitchen. Proportions are just right. The folks behind the counter are genuine and not recently released from middle school. The hot sauce, not in a plastic pouch, is something special. Just a dab will do you. As an Irish kid from NY City I claim no special qualifications to rate the food as "authentic." The food here was delicious. I came for lunch after a medical appointment. You walk in and order your food and if you want to sit inside the restaurant to eat, you can, as they have an ample number of tables and chairs. They will also bring your food to your table. The waiter was very patient with me and helpful and recommended items, such as the ensalada, which was a drink that had different fruits. I ordered a tamale, which was delicious and different as this was my first time having a fried tamale. I also ordered three Birria tacos! Average but decent food here. Perhaps 3.4 stars. Today I tried the quesadilla birria. It was pretty good, though the sauce that came with it was very heavy on the cumin. The quesadilla comes with guacamole, onions and diced tomatoes on the side. We also ordered the birria tacos. They were very good. They also come with guacamole, onions and diced tomatoes. The yucca with chicharron side order was good as well. Lastly, JP ordered a cheese pupusa which he liked. Prices are fairly reasonable, service is good and the large window-lined dining is comfortable. I use to come here every so often when I worked at the Army base 10 minutes from here. It's something about the tacos, burritos and the tamales that would keep me coming back. The burritos have that good cheese blend and sour cream taste which I adore. The deserts are very edible as well. My only caveat with this place is the minimum charge of 10 dollars to use a credit card. Nonetheless it's still a good restaurant run by a really good family. Honestly I love this place. Very unassuming but the service is fast, food is amazing and prices are very reasonable! I have a soft spot for the regular tacos which are good, but when drenched in their homemade hot salsa they are amazing! Definitely recommend if you are in the area. P.S. Little wholes in the wall are by far the best type of food! The parking lot was FULL. We illegally parked to order some food from here. It's a mix of Salvadoran and Mexican cuisine. I got the lengua, Al pastor and carne asada tacos...delicious! I also got the chips and Guac with the chicken tamale. All the food was delicious and they were not stingy with their sauces at all. They also had chicken tenders for my picky eater so it was the perfect stop to feed the entire family. The people inside were so nice to my non Hispanic husband who had 10 million questions. Despite it being extremely busy we got our food within 15-20 minutes. Food was made fresh so of course I was patient enough to wait. Taco Lucas has become my go to for Mexican food, atole, cuajada (freshly made soft cheese) over the years. During COVID Taco Lucas has become even more essential to me! I find myself ordering more and more for pick up. They have recently started serving tacos de Birria and OMG are they phenomenal!!! The tacos are crispy and come with a delicious side of beef consume broth you can dip the tacos in. The broth is so delicious that you won't want to waste a sip, which I highly recommend sipping on the leftover broth. It adds a perfect finish to your meal. The food at Taco Lucas is great!!! Sometimes I only go for the Cuajadas (fresh cheese) to complement meals that I make at home or when I buy pollo peruvano w/yucca at "Su Pollo Restaurant" (near Copper Rd on Rt1) It is freshly made and really delicious. I highly recommend the cuajada! My favorite menu items are the tortas, pupusas, pollo encebollado and now the Tacos de Birria! My husband loves the fried fish, plantains w/beans and crema, fried yucca w/fried pork, the cuajada and atole. I have many more items to try! Over the past 10+ years. I had driven past this restaurant dozens of times, but I can't remember a time when I came in to check it out. It's a small to medium sized restaurant, and the building itself is colorful that is situated on a large lot, so it's not easy to miss. I happened to be in the vicinity today, so I figured that I would give it a try because it was 12:30pm already and I was somewhat hungry. I only planned on getting something small and not really a full-scale lunch. They have plenty of options to choose from when it comes to Mexican food, but again I only wanted to get something small to hold me over until tonight. So I went for just two basic tacos that includes ground beef, lettuce, cheese, and tomatoes. I found an old-style booth table to sit, and within a matter of minutes the cool employee who I ordered from, brought the tacos to my table. I really liked this place. It is a little far away from where I live but worth driving out here for. I cannot wait to come back. 1. It is not a chain restaurant but a family owned restaurant. 2. They play soothing music so you can have a good conversation with your dinnermates. 3. Staff is friendly and service is quick. 4. It is pretty busy. There was a steady flow of people walking in. 5. Food is excellent. I had the lengua tacos. They tasted not gamey at all but tasted like short rib. So good! The pupusas were so perfect and the slaw they came with complimented the pupusas so well. The yuca was perfect. Crispy on the outside and pillow soft on the inside. I cant wait to try the other things on the menu. With these great prices you can. The prices are amazing. So I've visited here 3 times and I got to say, it's super disappointing at times. I have ordered the birria quesadillas,taco, and chicken tacos. The birria consume is SO SALTY. The one time it didn't seem that way was during the lunch rush. For waiting 20 minutes for fresh food, you would think the cheese on the chicken taco would melt since it's fresh? It's never melted. The portions are never consistent. I've come the last 2 times with someone and they ordered tacos. For $2.99 you would think you would get a pretty loaded taco. One was loaded, one was so scarce she almost asked for a refund. They would benefit from putting descriptions on the menu. You can't tell what you're getting until it shows up. I was expecting a street taco and got a flour tortilla. There were beans which I wouldn't have asked for had I known they would be in there. I didn't have an issue ordering and no one seemed rude. The specialty drinks (non alcoholic) are good and I haven't seen the 50 cent charge for refills in person. The seating area is a bit uncomfortable since nothing is cushioned but they place nice music at a reasonable volume. Just wish they would tone down the salt and fill the tacos more. read more

I call ahead for my food, even if I'm going to dine in. Items to note... Carne asada tacos... Amazing. The Pico de Gallo is perfect and not too oniony, and their meat is marinated properly and tender. The giant fish. So, so good. I haven't tried any of their soups but my friend did and she said the fish soup was great. Basically the food is fantastic. The bathrooms are normally clean, never seen any grossness. And I've never been sick after eating there, an do have a weak stomach. Now, the cons... I've seen ants. And I have a huge and phobia. I know it's summer and I know that ants happen and they aren't roaches, but it's freaked me out to see a little ant minding it's business on my table. Not really a con, but the wait times. I've had several visits there and ordered a variety of items from the menu. The Birria Tacos were fresh on my first visit. But the Lengua Taco's were chewy and it was very few pieces. The Yucca with Carne was the best. Lastly, I ordered the Torta Carne and the meat was overcooked and scare on the sandwich plus the cheese was like rubber. This is definitely a place you want to stop in and get a menu to bring home and then call ahead the next day to make sure your food is ready when you get there. It took about 25 minutes for them to make our food while we were standing there waiting to take it home. But that is because it's hand made and fresh (we saw the woman in the kitchen cutting the steak strips off the roast), so just call ahead and you'll be golden. The menu board just has the name of the dish and a picture, so pick up one of their menus to see the description of the item. We had some tacos, a super burrito, and the chicken quesadilla. My hubby said the tacos were super good and I loved the burrito. The chicken quesadilla was just so-so... we got it in case there was cilantro in my burrito (which there was not! yay!). Taco Lucas is a quaint, little restaurant that I regret over-looking because of its location on route one. From the outside, Taco Lucas is easily missed on Richmond Highway, which can be excused considering route one's untold number of authentic southern and central american restaurants. I make my way through the doors and as the pleasant aroma of food hits my nostrils, I am entranced. On the Friday night I visit the restaurant, it is mostly empty, but signs showed they have customers coming in to pick-up on a regular basis. The process of ordering is that you pay for your food and drinks at the cashiers counter, you find a nice cozy spot, and wait to be served your yuca frita heaven - cause that's what I get. Don't get me wrong, the rest of the menu looks killer, I just need my yuca fix. The fried yuca at Taco Lucas is pretty amazing: it comes with a spicy salsa sauce for dipping, and fried beef. And let me say, this place doesn't skimp on the yuca; I get a good ten, relatively large, pieces. The only drawback to my meal was that the fried beef was on the salty side, but if you take small piece of beef and combine it with a piece of yuca, it seems to qualm the sodium. (Maybe that's how it is meant to be eaten?) Other than that, I can tell that they use fresh ingredients and make their own salsa, as was apparent by the quality of the food. Would I go again? Yes. Easily one of the best places in the DMV for Mexican food. We've enjoyed everything we've ever ordered here and it all feels like comfort food. Haven't seen it talked about much in other reviews, but the wife and I really like the soups (although you can tell these are made to order and sometimes rushed because the at times the rice they include isn't cooked all the way through).
