The young lady behind the bar was super friendly and gave me great recommendation she said that she added chips and salsa to my order. Customer service was Steller, the ribs were ok, but the combination plate with the fish taco, ground beef chile rellenos and the shrimp enchilada was GREAT the Star of the show was the Chile Rellenos, Chips, and Salsa. The Chile Rellenos was covered in tasty gooey cheese and the ground beef had a good flavor. The Chips were Light and crisp not thick with no flavor complimented the fresh made salsa. I will return. My husband and I enjoyed the ambiance and food, although the service was quite slow, but considering they had just opened that day, it was to be expected. We enjoyed the chips and salsa for starters. By the time the food arrived, I was feeling pretty negative about the place. Our service had been pretty slow for a down time (arrived at 1:30 on a weekday, only a third of the tables were occupied), the chips (good!) and salsa (bad!) were a mixed bag, although redeemed by ordering the guac (at 6$, pricey but worth it) to go with them instead of the salsa. The food, however eventually, did arrive. I had the taco platter. It was very good. I was sampling, so I asked them to bring my one crispy and one soft taco. Both were good. Go with your own preference. We asked for a desert menu, but were informed that they were out of everything except flan, so we passed. Wow this place was great! Just enjoyed a wonderful lunch with the family. We were hungry and about to head on the metro to DC when we checked Yelp and decided to give this place a shot. I had the chicken enchiladas which were probably the tastiest I've ever had, the others had chicken fajitas, and chile rellenos. We all agreed this was some of the best Mexican we've had in the area. Totally random, but the sour cream was actually amazing. Not sure what they do to it, but I wanted more! The chips and the salsa was also delicious and very fresh. I really like this place. It's in a great location for a person who utilizes Metro on a daily basis. They don't have tamales on the menu, but they do make chile rellenos, which makes up for it. By Far the best Tex/Mex food I have ever had! My Wife and I went after meeting an employee of the restaurant and it did not disappoint. Everything was very fresh and had a ton of flavor. I had a steak chimichanga and it was excellent. The ingredients were well balanced and nothing was too overpowering. It was fried just enough to be crispy but wasn't greasy or oily at all. I also really liked the chips and salsa, the chips were warm and the salsa was very fresh and had a lot of flavor. The beans and rice really surprised me. Both tasted great and weren't soupy or pasty like a lot of other places My wife had tacos with ground beef and I tried a bite. The ground beef was amazing! There were vegetables mixed in with the beef like carrots and celery just enough to give it a lot more flavor. The atmosphere was nice as well, my wife and I were able to have a lovely dinner and a nice conversation. The staff was very friendly and the food came out very quickly. I'm giving this Dos Amigos one star because of the terrible service. We arrived just before noon, it wasn't crowded but 30 minutes later we were still waiting for our food. Another couple also waited longer than necessary for their order. My brother has eaten at Dos Amigos several times and enjoyed his experience but this was my first visit and possibly my last. My brother also said if Jose the waiter had been there we would've had a great experience. So for that reason I may give Dos Amigos another try but I'm in no hurry. read more

Came here to try the 'dillas as my name states and whooooooo dogggyyy were they good. I brought my wife with me because she will eat anything and I mean anything if you catch my drift;) these 'dillas had the perfect ratio of tortilla to filling. The only thing wrong with my 'dilla was that is was so dang spicy I had to run to the bathroom half way through the meal to unload! While I was in there groaning I heard people coming and going and I know they didn't enjoy the smell of 'dilla and chewing tobacco in the morning. I live in the neighborhood and have been coming here for a while; I have a bias for this place and the staff--it's well deserved. First, a visit here will leave you with the neighborhood feel. Friendly and attentive are the first two thoughts that come to mind. Second, and this comes with a Texas bias and experience exploring the D.C. Area, you won't find better Tex-Mex for the value. This is not the frills of some chef trying to make his name with the bastardization of Southwest food; good Tex-Mex is about simple and this place knows it. Our fourth visit tonight and everyone was happy. We were waiting to pick up son arriving at the Braddock Metro so this handy restaurant serves everyone's need. In the past I've had the cheese enchilladas and carnitas. All were good. Husband got chicken and cheese enchilada and had no complaints. We all enjoyed the black beans. Son had chicken fingers and fries (which I tried and have to say the french fries were awfully good, even though no one posting here seems to have tried them). A burger went by that looked wonderful. I'm one of those that love the warm, "fragile" (as someone called them) chips and I like a salsa cruda so am happy with what many call a water mix of tomatoes and onions. Yes it could use some cilantro and some real jalapeno, but it's still fresh and not out of a jar and I appreciate that. I also always ask for the tomatillo salsa (green, small cup, very spicy). The chips usually need salt but that's an easy fix. We don't drink so I don't have any comments on the margaritas but saw a few go by and they looked wonderful. But we plowed through six iced teas and they were great. Tonight I got the tacos el carbon (special) and probably won't do that again. I think the pork (not steak) was sitting on a warmer. Next up to try will be a burger and the steak carnitas, and nachos. This place is so much better than Don Pablos nearby. read more

We decided to give Dos Amigos a try & were very happy we did! My husband is in the Army & I'm an International Flight Attendant, so we've been all over the world. Dos Amigos is one of the most delicious restaurants we've dined at! Jose was awesome! We arrived a bit after 7pm, so of course the place was packed, another good sign. We were told it would only be a 20 minute wait or we could eat at the bar. We decided the bar since my mouth was watering the moment we got out of the car. I had the biggest, baddest Margarita that was simply incredible. The chips and salsa, plus homemade guacamole, all were delicious and fresh . My husband had the black bean soup & a beef chimichanga with a Sam Adams and was perfectly satiated! I had beef flautas & chicken & beef fajitas. I have a real thing for grilled marinated meat. Everything was made fresh and with quality ingredients and lots of love! I especially loved my Fajitas since they were made with red bell peppers instead of the green ones, the red added a special zing to the dish, I ate every single last bite! Jose is wonderful, great multitasker & took care of every customer as if they were family! I had to have another margarita and even sopopias! The food, drinks & the employees are top of the line! Jose constantly checked on us and (here I'll use a local Hawaiian phrase, since that's where I'm from) he took the time to "talk story" with us. They were short 1 waitress, it didn't slow them down a bit. They jammed and the food "broke da mouth"! (Another local term!). We will be regulars from now on! First off, the chops: I've eaten tacos all over the globe. I am not an amateur. SO, this place was pretty good. The chips were fresh, the salsa is very close to what Los Tios serves, so I'm inclined to think that one hand is washing the other. THe queso was great, but then, when is queso bad? The fajitas and the tacos were good. It's hard to beat Los Tios Fajitas though, so it gets the edge. The black beans that came with both were really good. The upshot is that it's good, but Los Tios is a little better, it's closer to me, which means I don't have to look endlessly for parking. And if anyone has tried to get a table at Los Tios on friday night knows it's a twenty minute subject. So Dos Amigos get the edge on that. The rating: Better than Taquiro, but not quite as good as Los Tios. I got good service and personal attention from the owner or the manager who wanted to assure us that they were still working out the kinks and they had not expected such a rush of business. This was a really good experience. The food was excellent and goes to the top of the charts for Mexican in Old Town. The ambience is simple but welcoming. Most everything is made from scratch in-house and they are telling the truth when they say there are no chemical preservatives or flavor enhancers - not something many Tex-Mex places around here can say. The Dos Amigos Shrimp salad was generous and fresh and the shrimp marinade delicious and shrimp grilled to perfection. The cilantro lime dressing was really good. The tortillas on the enchiladas were like home made, and the flavor of the poblano salsa verde on the chicken enchiladas was excellent. We recommend it highly. Great to have a good choice in walking distance in the neighborhood! Dos Amigos will also attract lots of people who have to travel a distance. We loved Dos Amigos! Went there for the first time last night. My husband suffers from a poultry allergy, stops breathing if he comes in contact with chicken, chicken broth, duck, etc. When we arrived at Dos Amigos, we immediately told our waitress about the allergy and she sent the owner over. He was so accommodating and helpful. Turned out that the homemade chips that come with the salsa are cooked in the same oil as the chicken fingers so the owner was kind enough to make crispy tortillas so my husband could enjoy the salsa. We ordered two types of fajitas, the steak and lamb, which were a special. Everything was delicious, the lamb was cooked perfectly, which isn't always easy and the steak was very tender.
