Urbano 116 came through for an unexpected Thursday night out at the end of our walk. We grabbed a table outside, and even though it was pretty busy, the service never skipped a beat. Our server was quick, friendly, and kept things moving without making us feel rushed. They actually have a true happy hour menu. Not one of those "$1 off" situations, but legit deals across both food and drinks. Everything we ordered hit. The margaritas were refreshing, well-balanced (not overly sweet), and definitely did the job. For food, we kept it classic. The tacos were simple but flavorful, with tender, well-seasoned meat and fresh toppings that didn't overpower anything. The nachos were good but in my opinion, the portion size wasn't worth $11. Everything tasted fresh and came out hot, which I always appreciate, especially during a busy service. The vibe outside really pulled it all together. It's one of those spots that feels lively without being chaotic...perfect for catching up, people-watching, or just unwinding after a long day. You can tell it's a go-to neighborhood spot for a reason. I'd definitely come back--especially for another round of margaritas and to try more of the menu. read more

I'm challenged by this review. The Restaurant space is quite unique in old town with it's decor and cuisine compared to the restaurants around it on King Street. The background noise is pretty high. That said, I'm challenged in writing a glowing review. Last two times that I have went there (most recently last weekend) the food was underwhelming. I've not ever had fajitas where green peppers weren't included in the dish, except this last visit. To the waiter's credit, he pointed out that they were not included on the menu; I am still surprised. I decided to treat myself to some bites and drinks after returning from vacation. Wanted some seafood options which is what brought me here. It was not at all busy. I arrived late afternoon post brunch. I opted to sit at the bar which was pretty empty but all the seating options were open. I was greeted by the bartender right away. Stopped in here during a stroll through Old Town. It's very colorful inside with ceiling decor, bright lights, and paintings. We were immediately seated and handed menus. I didn't have an appetite, so opted to get a steak fajita salad while my friend ordered the shredded beef burrito. They gave complimentary tortilla chips with two types of salsa. One was smoky while the other was a bit spicy. The chips were freshly made, and very light. Our food was spectacular. I asked for my steak to be medium well, and it was cooked perfectly. The salad was so fresh, and the steak absorbed the tanginess of the dressing. There was avocado, cheese, and fajita peppers mixed in. It was just great!! My friend really enjoyed her dish too, and cleaned her plate, lol. Service was great as well. Literally stumbled upon this place while walking around Old Town Alexandria and it was perfect for date night! The restaurant is huge and had bar, table, and booth seating. They also had lots of Valentine's decor up so they're very festive. In terms of the food, I thoroughly enjoyed my elote as a starter. It came with 3 half-size cobs so it's great for sharing. The pineapple juice was delicious as well. My main plate was huge - great portions here. For my main, I got the quesobirria tacos and they were packed with flavor! While strolling through Old Town Alexandria on my husband's birthday, he chose where we would eat. He chose this restaurant and it was a pretty good choice. The chips that come with the table were good and -- being a person that cannot do spicy food -- I appreciated that the salsa was good and NOT spicy! He had the spinach and chicken enchiladas and said they were pretty good. I had 2 soft tacos that were OK. The rice and beans were kind of bland. The margaritas also were not that great. Stopped by on a Thursday for thirsty Thursday! Queso and food were great. I had the 2 item combo with the beef chimichanga and carnitas enchilada and they were both excellent. He had the three item combo with a crispy chicken taco, a beef chimichanga and a ground beef enchilada. All were wonderful. First round of drinks was amazing, we had the classic marg. As long as I've been visiting Old Town for lunch, dinner, happy hour and brunch I can't not believe I have never been to Urbano (yes, I know I have to do better lol). My friend wanted to grab drinks and a quick bite to eat after work and suggested we try Urbano. Let me just say since my first visit we've been back 3x already. The service is always friendly and fast and the happy hour menu food selection is top tier. We always order the Happy Hour Platter which gives you a little of everything - Wings, Queso, Guacamole, Tacos and Taquitos. Like seriously what more can you ask for on a happy hour menu. The food always comes out hot and fresh and is delicious. I think it's safe to say we've found our new go to happy hour spot in Old Town Alexandria. Urbano is a great, reliable lunch spot! The service is attentive and friendly and the food is yummy and consistent. It won't knock your socks off, but it's always good! My husband and I came in on a Saturday for lunch and were able to be seated immediately. We each got margaritas on the rocks. I thought my passion fruit one was a bit sweet, but my partner loved his pineapple one. He got the chimichanga and I got the birria tacos and we were really happy with our lunch! $90 with tip, so a but expensive, but that's only because we did speciality margs. We'll be back! read more

I like the pedestrian-only stretch of King Street in Old Town. It affords the opportunity to peek at what diners are eating in the restaurant outdoor sections along the row. But to be honest, most of these restaurants are unremarkable. The one exception, I would offer, is Urbano. It's decidedly different that the glorifed bar food that surrounds it. We've eaten inside once and three times outside. This is a good time of the year to grab an evening bite at Urbano. Even if the weather is glorious, the tourist season has not quite started, and you can get seated quickly. Service is usually excellent, but on our latest visit our server disappeared for an awful long time at the end of our meal, making us wait forever to ask for our check. My favorite dish is the Elotes Locos, which are three sections of corn on the cob on a stick sprinkled with queso fresco cheese and chili salsa. These are delicious. I like the quesadillas. As default, they will stuff lettuce and a red sauce into the quesadilla. For me, I enjoy them best with just cheese and meat. The slightly smokey chicken wings are excellent. It's not something I would order, but JP liked the fajita salad that comes with either steak or chicken. Your meal comes with complimentary tortilla chips and two dipping sauces. read more

I got the chicken birria tacos which were great. I always see it made with pork so I was really glad they had a delicious chicken version. The green dipping sauce was good, but maybe next time I would ask for the red just to try that. My cousin got the chicken salad it was plain just grilled chicken over iceberg lettuce :/. I would definitely go back just don't recommend the salad. We couldn't find the waiter but it was all good. Food came out relatively quick. Food was pretty good. My fiance got the taco Tuesday deal that they had going on that day (unlimited beef or chicken tacos) I tried the crispy ground beef taco from her and it was pretty tasty. The shell was toasted to be like one big nacho. The server we had was very nice but made a lot of mistakes - from getting some of our orders wrong to charging us the wrong receipt. Stopped in on a hot evening out in old town Alexandria - the air conditioning was kinder than any welcome wait staff could have given us. Unfortunately, that's where the positives end. All menu items are in the upper $10s, I know inflation has been hard but a single enchilada is not worth $18. Gotta pay the rent somehow I suppose, may as well charge the tourists. Reggaeton was playing extremely loudly and it was difficult to hear, even though we were rather far from the bar area. Either my taste buds were broken this night or the food was truly nondescript, but I couldn't tell the difference between the salsas, or between the al pastor, carnitas, and the beef. The cheese under the black beans was a great touch though, but nothing standout. After the waitress brought the check, she didn't come back for it. My partner used the restroom and after they were done, the waitress still hadn't shown up, so I had to go up and bring the bill directly to her. Stopped by for a light dinner on a Friday night. It was pretty crowded but we were quickly seated (no wait) and provided chips and 2 types of salsa (with no explanation of what the salsas are). Salsas are mild and tasted the same, though I would've liked them more if they had more flavor or a kick to them. Prices on the menu are what you'd expect to pay when dining out I guess, but it's still a bit surprising that there was no item below $10 - not the appetizers or the sides! My partner and I decided to split the "combo" - $20 for small versions of the burrito, enchiladas, and chimichanga. It was a good value meal, as we both were full after finishing it. The food kind of tasted the same with no distinguishing flavors between the different types of meat we got (al pastor, chicken, carnitas). We had to ask for spicier salsa, which they delivered on (it was quite spicy). Service was fast in getting us our food, but was really slow in coming to get our check/credit card (our server was standing around at that point), so we had to go over to her to hand the check. As for the ambience, I kind of hated it lol. I'm not a fan of reggaeton and that's pretty much all they played as background music. The women's bathroom was also kind of grimy, with toilet paper strewn around and the main trash can overfilled with used paper towels. Overall, I probably wouldn't dine here again, as I don't live close enough to take advantage of their happy hour. There are much better Tex-Mex and Mexican places around the DMV. read more

If you're down near the water on King and want some tacos, this isn't a bad place to stop in. They have a nice size patio and the day was beautiful so we sat outside. Checking in, we saw that the inside had a nice size bar, many tables (which were empty because everyone wanted to be outside), and was nice and open. The hostess and the servers were great. Everyone was friendly, and pacing was good, particularly asking us whether we wanted additional drinks. The frozen margarita was good and refreshing. The elote had what seemed to be crumbled Doritos on it. I mean, that's how it tasted. They were flavorful but not amongst the really tasty elote that I'm used to. Don't order the nachos! They are nothing like what I've had at other restaurants, even in Mexico. They're like open faced quesadillas made with chips. I've never sent a dish back in my life but I couldn't eat this. The server tried to convince us that nachos are supposed to look like this. There were barely any other guests in the restaurant. After we put in our food orders I told the server I was still looking at the menu for a drink. He didn't come back to take my drink order. He didn't come back to check on us after we got our food, we had to flag him down to talk about the "nachos". He said he would send a manager over but no one came. He took our plates away and we just sat there for 10 minutes. Eventually my friend made eye contact with a woman and let her know that we were waiting for the manager and she told us that she was the manager. Very strange. She agreed their nachos were different and offered us something else but we were scared to order anything else in case it came out looking like something we weren't familiar with. They have a few different margarita options available. There's an additional charge for some of the happy hour margaritas. My drink was an We were offered chips and salsa as well as a another type of salsa but no one explained what the other salsa was. I decided to go with the happy hour nachos with steak. (An additional charge for steak) The nachos were served a little differently then your typical order of nachos. The nachos were individually topped with beans, steak and cheese. The bartender raved about the birria so I switched my order from quesadillas to birria tacos. I was unimpressed. Birria tacos are my fave so I rate them hard every state I try them in. I honestly would rate the food 3 stars, but the great service/drinks/ambiance/location bring it up to 4 stars. He made me a passion fruit mocktail which was really tasty but too large to finish. Perfect location, comfortable bar to sit at solo even though it seems a place for pairs or groups so I can't say it's a place "for" singles to meet other singles but it's certainly going to be comfortable for you at the bar given the light environment, and friendly energy/friend groups or pairs.
