Dining In-Person: 5 Stars Take-Out: 3 stars (0 for service, 5 for food) The food is really good, and if you're a regular they are always welcoming and remember you. It's been awhile since we've sat in the restaurant but whenever we do it's always a great experience. Take-out is a different story. When we've ordered on GrubHub we never get a notification stating the food is ready so we just go a little after the specified time it's expected to be ready. I don't know how orders come in from GrubHub but it seems like they don't always see them. There have been numerous times when the food isn't ready and based on the extensive time we have to wait to get the food it it's clear they hadn't even seen the order come in. This certainly isn't every time but it's happened multiple times. Recently we tried using GrubHub and but were having issues with spotty wifi so we called it in instead. They said we could pay when we arrived. I was quite shocked that the order which totaled $40 on Grubhub rang up as $53 in person (see receipts attached). I stated my surprise but their response was to try DoorDash instead next time. If you compare the receipts each main dish rang up about $2 more expensive in person than it did on Grubhub and each appetizer or dessert was $3 more. The quantity of food we received was no different than when we order via Grubhub and when called out for this I would have expected a better response. So if you're interested in picking up take out, NEVER order direct. But if you order through a third party always call to check the food is ready before picking it up so you don't waste your time waiting. read more

My husband and I went to Dosa Grill on a Friday night. We usually order takeout, but decided to eat in this time. There were not a lot of full tables with patrons, however, the take out and third party business was very busy. Despite the busyness of those picking up orders, our service was very good. Our waiter offered suggestions when we asked questions, checked in with us, and was overall very kind. My husband and I got garlic naan, chicken tiki masala, and a shrimp dish. We always ask for extra rice as the mains are very large. The food was excellent, as always. read more

I have been here before and didn't have the greatest experience but I hear so many great things I gave it another try. I didn't realize I was coming right near closing time but they graciously sat me and allowed me to finish my food. Service was very attentive and friendly. Once I was seated I was immediately poured water and brought out papdam with chutneys. So delicious! I almost filled up on it. I ordered a spicy chicken tikka masala and it was very flavorful with plenty of rice. The chili naan I got was also very tasty. Everything was hot and fresh. It definitely changed my mind about this place. They do offer a buffet but I prefer to order off the menu and they had no issue with that. read more

First time here. Went for their dinner buffet on a Wednesday night. Went around 7:30, there was a little wait for a table but the restaurant started emptying out a little bit later. There was also quite a bit of takeout traffic. The large groups there seemed to all pay individual checks which took quite a bit of time so keep that in mind when timing when you want to settle your bill. My favorite was the goat curry which had a little bit (but not a lot) of heat. The chicken tikka masala and the dal were also delicious as was the Nan. A pleasant experience. read more

I was flying back to Los Angeles and Mom and I wanted to stop for food prior to my flight so we stopped at dosa Grill. I've been here a few times before, but it was a lonnggggg time ago! And it was moms first time trying Indian food!!! The buffet is stacked with SO MANY OPTIONS !! And variety of foods but mom and I decided to order from the regular menu. We ordered: Butter Dosa - Bhindi Masala (okra) Chicken Makhani (comes with rice) Everything was phenomenal and freshhhh! The portions are HUGE and could literally feed a family of 4!! We had so many leftovers. What really stands out at this place is not only the food but the friendly service. Everyone was so nice and you can tell they put a lot of love into their food!! I came for the first time in many years, and found myself wondering "Why have I waited so long?" They have buffets on Monday and Wednesday nights. Takeout is allowed on the buffet. I filled a box and paid. The owner made a point to get fresh, hot naan from the back for me, which was so nice! I loaded most of the container up with mushroom masala (one of my favorites) which was super comforting. Also got a little bit of hakka noodles and saag paneer. Good, tasty, filling, and fast. Stopped here for a late dinner on a Monday. They offered a buffet as well as menu items. The buffet was moderately sized but every dish I tried was very good. I also ordered garlic naan which was tasty and goat curry which was fantastic! I intended to take out the goat curry but my companion wanted to try it, so they brought a smaller dish to the table. The staff was courteous and attentive, excellent in every way. Decor is updated and pleasing, the restrooms could use an upgrade, but were generally clean. Even after just my first visit, I would highly recommend stopping by Dosa Grill for lunch or dinner. The lunch buffet is $15 per person, not the cheapest but not expensive by any means--middle of the road in terms of price. The food itself was superb; I served myself for the lunch buffet, but the servers were adamant about filling my glass with water and even offered a sample of a squash-filled crepe-esque dish! I got a plate of chicken tikka masala, rice, and naan bread. The tikka masala was delicious--savory and slightly sweet. Afterward, I enjoyed a dessert consisting of a semolina and nut mixture, as well as rice pudding. The former was okay, the latter was sweet and delectable. True to their name the dosa are great. The vegetable pakoras were great. Mango lassi was refreshing. Lamb vindaloo, lamb saag, chicken korma, etc. All good. And nice desserts. I finally made it to the Dosa Grill and tried their lunch buffet. It was so good I had to go back and this time I managed to take a picture before eating. The staff were so helpful and kind. I love that they have so many vegetarian options and everything tastes so good. The buffet provides a great opportunity to try different dishes all at once especially because they have so many options in their menu. Their naan is delicious and has the perfect consistency. I also really enjoyed the dessert options of rice pudding and mango custard. Both were a delicious options to finish the meal. I am definitely looking forward to returning! read more

I have been here three times now - originally on the recommendation from someone suggesting somewhere I could get tasty pescatarian-friendly Indian food locally. Everything here that I have tried is flavorful and clearly made with quality ingredients, my only complaint is that the food is very mild for me and I would like more access to requesting a higher spice level. I ordered the chili pakoras, which are labeled as "hot and spicy" and they were one of the more mild pakoras I've ever had but still very tasty. The service here is outstanding - everyone is so eager to help, provide service, and then knows when to step back. I brought some friends on my third visit and we were able to talk and have our water glasses filled, which can sometimes be a difficult thing to accomplish. There aren't very many tables here and everything feels like it's in the middle of the room, so it lends more of a cafeteria feel than I would like, even during seated dinner service, but there's only so much you can do with such a small space. After getting my car serviced, I was in the mood for Indian Food. Dosa Grill popped up in my search results, and I decided to give the restaurant a shot. I arrived at the restaurant around 1145, which was close to when they opened. To my amazement, there was quite a variety number of piping hot dishes to choose from at the buffet. During my visit, I had the Garlic Naan, Onion Chutney, Chicken Tikka Marsala, Chicken Tandoori, Chicken Kadai, Chicken Biryani, Mango Custard, Rice Pudding, and Mango Lassi. All of these dishes tasted great. And I went up to grab a few more plates. Now, there are a few unsatisfied reviews from people who have ordered takeout. But reviewing Dosa Grill as a sit-in customer, I have no complaints. The staff is pretty attentive, and the food comes out fairly quickly. Also, the lunch buffet is a pretty good option if you have a big group because the price per person at Dosa Grill is pretty reasonable at $13. So, if you are ever in the Syracuse area or have never tried Indian Food, take a chance on Dosa Grill. I'm sure that you'll leave satisfied. read more

I didn't have a chance to try much of the menu but I did get the Dosa and mine was really crispy so it broke apart into smaller pieces that made it harder to dip but I still like the flavors. Dosa Grill is one of the best Indian lunch buffets I've been to in recent years. For an astonishingly good deal of $12.95, the lunch buffet had a terrific array of vegetarian and meat options, ranging from salad, zucchini curry, saag paneer, and a kidney bean-based curry to fish curry, chicken tikka masala, lamb vindaloo, tandoor chicken, and another lamb curry. The samosas were fantastically crispy and flavorful, the naan was soft and fluffy. I particularly loved the tandoor chicken drumstick, which was perfectly charred and well-baked on the outside and moist on the inside. Not what I was expecting from a lunch buffet. The meat in the chicken tikka masala was a bit drier, but overall still good. The fish in the fish curry was quite tender; that and the saag paneer, tandoori chicken, and zucchini curry were my favorite dishes. For dessert there was rice pudding and gulab jamun, both of which were rich and satisfying complements to the meal. The other touch that I loved at Dosa Grill was the the complimentary fresh plate of two potato dosas delivered to each table. The dosas were perfect--thin and slightly crisp on the outside. I've never been to an Indian buffet where there are both naan and dosas included. We went on a Friday around 1PM, when there was still a steady volume of customers. This meant the food was constantly being cooked fresh. The service was terrific and accommodating; without our asking, a staff member brought over to small plastic cups with straws for my small kids, thoughtfully anticipating our needs. They were able to provide two high chairs and were very kind and sweet to them. I would definitely return for Dosa Grill's lunch buffet again should we be in the area.
