We love Clay Oven!! My husband and I decided to indulge at our date night. We ordered a few different dishes including the clay oven soup, chicken Briyani, Mughlai chicken curry, naan, and a mixed platter. All was phenomenal and it's hard to choose a favorite but the clay oven soup was the highlight for myself for its mixture of flavors. Definitely my favorite Indian spot in the area!

I have gone for the lunch buffet and ordered some take out from them as well. Each time the food was tasty. I like that they also have Indo-Chinese options on the buffet and menu as well. It is very clean and nicely decorated inside. Even getting the buffet the servers are friendly and attentive, getting drinks and answering any questions about the food as well. One thing I always look for at an Indian restaurant is good tasting masal chai. Theirs is delicious as well as the mango lassi. They even got me a cup to go when I couldn't finish my lassi.

The Clay Oven is an all-you-can-eat buffet Indian restaurant that is not your ordinary salad bar featuring a couple dishes from the same chicken, a tired beef entrée and a bunch of deep-fried filler. This 26-foot wall of food is an ever-changing smorgasbord of family recipes from the Punjab region in northwestern India. Raj Kumar opened Clay Oven in Kimbrook Village Square at 8417 Oswego Road, a couple doors down from Tops supermarket. The modest storefront wedged between a liquor store and gym is deceivingly large. The two dining rooms beyond the full-service bar can seat more than 80 customers. The all-Indian staff here prepares the food using only fresh meats, vegetables and seafood. Nothing comes prepackaged, they say. Even the curry powders used to spice each dish are fresh. As the restaurant's name suggests, the food is cooked inside a tandoor, a cylindrical clay oven. The wife and I stopped in for lunch today and loved it. The space inside is much bigger than it looks outside, it's clean and beautifully decorated, and has plenty of seating. Plenty of options on the buffet - vegetarian dishes, noodles, rice, curry chicken, even some lamb and dessert options. We tried a little bit of everything, and everything was delicious, although my wife and I could've used a little more hear, but we understand buffets need to appeal to the masses. Service was friendly and attentive and prices were very affordable - only $15 per person. We'll definitely be back.

Our first visit we went Valentines Day when they opened at 4:30 and were seated right away behind a party of 4. By the time we finished eating, or should I say grazing, the multiple pots of tasty spicy Hindu foods and desserts with fresh salad bar all you can eat $15.95 on Wednesdays we were happily full and tastefully satisfied. Warm inviting atmosphere indicative of the culture in the East. Service is very attentive and friendly. We will definitely return and order from the menu so we can increase the spice and enjoy our favs. Very clean and welcoming place to eat. Sorry no food pics this time we were hungry.

Wow, what a find! A family member is on paxlovid and can't taste anything right. So she craved some flavorful Indian cuisine. Clay Oven hit the spot! We ordered a hell of a spread: Veg Biryani, chicken tikka masala, lamb roganjosh, lamb kadai (spicy), garlic & Plain naan, and veg samosas. I sampled everything but the lamb kadai as I didn't want super spicy. My brother in law ordered that and he liked it a lot. Not so spicy that you can't breathe or taste anything, he was happy with spice level. The vegetable biryani was quite a nice portion and flavorful. The chicken tikka masala also had a nice amount of chicken and a very flavorful gravy that's awesome for dipping naan in. My lamb rogan josh was tasty with a decent amount of lamb and nice sauce. Maybe I'll get medium spice next time? Naan was fresh. Food was ready when promised. If I lived in the area I'd check out their buffet for sure. Take a break from all of the fish fries and (in my opinion) mediocre red sauce joints - check out Clay Oven! It'll make your day.

Indian food isn't something I have a ton of experience with. I went with a group of 8 people total. I had no idea what to order and the menu really didn't help explain anything in a way that made it easy to decide. "Rice with chicken and spices" isn't very informative so I tried to quickly Google indian food to find the name of a dish that looked good... When it became my turn to order, luckily last, I tried to ask a couple questions but the server didn't seem very interested in helping me understand or choose. I ended up going with the vegetable biryani since I could find an image online that made it seem like it was something along the lines of fried rice... It was good, but I'm not sure I'd order it again. It was slightly spicy and came with some kind of yogurt coleslaw sauce I assume to take the heat edge off... We tried to order drinks but there was no one at the bar until one of us was standing there for a while. They never came back to fill our drinks (those that fit drinks besides water). I dropped my spoon and they were super on top of getting me a new one ... but the checks we had to ask for after waiting 30 minutes? Overall a very confusing experience. Maybe Indian cuisine isn't my thing, but decent customer service is.

First time eating Indian food and it was an awesome experience. A friend with immense experience in the cuisine generously shared the love of happy tastebuds. The chicken tandoori and chicken biryani were delicious. I had a mango lassi that a treat (mango, yogurt and milk). The place had a nice crowd, good lighting, attentive staff, and a nice bar. Many people were picking up their to-go orders as we waited to be seated.

This large buffet was pretty crowded on Saturday with people waiting for the door to open. There is a great selection of dishes, some spicy and some mild. I had the vegetable pakora, made nice and small perfect bites. The tandoori chicken was moist and the chili chicken had just the right amount of spiciness. The naan bread was replenished so it was warm and fresh. I think my favorite was a zucchini and tomato dish. As always, service was great.. water always refilled promptly and dishes cleared.

Clay Oven is absolutely tantalizing for your taste buds. First visit here and the food was amazing. Every bite was delicious and everything was flavorful and cooked to perfection. From the poppers and dipping sauces to our appetizers of vegetable spring rolls and the dry chicken, to the garlic naan and main dishes of Lamb Bhuna and the Green vegetable diwan. It has immediately risen to the top of favorite Indian food I've ever had. If you like Indian food, get here now! If you don't like it, let them make you a believer!! Loved the energy and Atmosphere, it feels brand new, well spaced and even with a fuller house it never felt loud, while the music fills the space with a fun energy. Now into the interesting problem. The pace of play at arrival, after we first sat and when we were waiting for boxes and then waiting for the check was terribly long. Actually writing this review while in the restaurant, still waiting for my check...hmm. The staff is super nice and was phenomenal and quick after ordering and during our meal. So not sure what the disconnect was here, but hopefully that gets figured out. I hope your experience has all the wonders along with a consistent pace so you can, as always...Enjoy!!

Had the Wednesday dinner buffet sharply at 5:30. The buffet was mostly chicken-based items, including Tiki Masala, Chili chicken, and Tandori chicken. The star for me was the Chili chicken, not too hot that you couldn't enjoy the flavor! Of course, a plethora of rices (chicken, veggie and white) alongside two desserts-Mango Kulfi (warm custard) and Rasgullas (really sweet white balls!) I wish they had some other meat options and rice pudding, but that is probably based on who's working and the week it is!

I moved to Syracuse last year and have tried a few Indian Restaurants, while they were good I haven't found THE place to go to until I went to the Clay Oven today. We came for dinner and it was very quiet and cozy. The staff is very friendly and always makes sure you're good and don't need anything else. My friend (who has never had Indian food before) and I came and LOVED IT! It was the best Chicken Tikka Masala I have ever had. With your meal you get shared rice for the table, which they can replenish if you run out. We also got the Gulab Jamun (donut like) for dessert and it was YUMMY! It reminded me of a warm mini donut. It was a perfect dessert to share with a friend. Would recommend to everyone!

She was looking for advice from me, but I was very happy when the owner came by and said he could select our food and we trusted him.He asked us a few questions about spice level, proteins, etc. He said he would bring us an appetizer, a chicken entree and a vegetable entree. He also brought us 2 hot chai drinks. We agreed it was the best chai we've ever had....it was mildly sweet and the spices were perfect. We were brought as an appetizer...fried cauliflower with a Manchurian sauce which was sweet, mildly spicy and a touch sour..... perfect. We got 4 beautiful veggie balls..... finely minced veggies with paneer in a very creamy sauce. The taste was a little sweet and when eaten on the super hot and fresh naan it was delicious. Our last dish was chicken kebabs, I believe made in the tandoori oven with spices and served with a beautiful sweet, creamy tomato sauce. We didn't ask for dessert but we're brought a complementary rice pudding to share... heavenly! We were checked on several times and water glasses were kept filled. We are both big water drinkers. I was so impressed with both service and food. If I could rate it more than 5 stars, I would do it!!

After taking some neighborhood streets, we arrived at the location and parked in their small lot. There was room for perhaps for 6-7 cars. Each space was labeled for whether it was for the restaurant or not. Entering, we were greeted and seated. We had about 1 hour and 14 minutes before boarding, so the staff were very accommodating and pointed out what could be made quickly (basically everything except their tandoori). They also answered questions about gluten. We ended up getting aloo tikki chaat and a lamb shank masala. They provided chickpea flour crisps with mint-cilantro and tamarind chutney. They also brought us their complimentary chai tea, which was very nice and satisfying. Their chaat was well-balanced, gluten-free (the crispies are made with chickpea flour), and it had pomengranate, chickpeas, and potatoes. The pile was dressed with yogurt, tamarind chutney, and mint chutney. Their lamb shank masala came bone-in with the curry sauce surrounding it. The lamb was well cooked, and mostly moist and tender, though there were parts that were dry. Both dishes were well-adorned, which was a nice touch. Best of all, however, was how exemplary all the staff were at the restaurant. They exuded a wonderful calmness and hospitality. We'll definitely be back the next time we're in Syracuse.

It's been awhile since we've sat in the restaurant but whenever we do it's always a great experience. Take-out is a different story. When we've ordered on GrubHub we never get a notification stating the food is ready so we just go a little after the specified time it's expected to be ready. I don't know how orders come in from GrubHub but it seems like they don't always see them. There have been numerous times when the food isn't ready and based on the extensive time we have to wait to get the food it it's clear they hadn't even seen the order come in. This certainly isn't every time but it's happened multiple times. Recently we tried using GrubHub and but were having issues with spotty wifi so we called it in instead. They said we could pay when we arrived. I was quite shocked that the order which totaled $40 on Grubhub rang up as $53 in person (see receipts attached). I stated my surprise but their response was to try DoorDash instead next time. If you compare the receipts each main dish rang up about $2 more expensive in person than it did on Grubhub and each appetizer or dessert was $3 more. The quantity of food we received was no different than when we order via Grubhub and when called out for this I would have expected a better response. So if you're interested in picking up take out, NEVER order direct. But if you order through a third party always call to check the food is ready before picking it up so you don't waste your time waiting.

Most notably, they serve a lunch buffet during the week that costs less than $13 and is bar none the best value for your money. I often partake in the take-out buffet during the weekdays and can't deny that its the best option for when I am really hungry and want a satisfying meal. The staff are associated with other well known Indian restaurants in the area (The Clay Oven and the Dosa Grill to name a couple) as denoted by their various polo shirts with the named establishments screen printed on the chest. On various days, I have experienced questionable attitudes from the wait staff but, most of time, I don't dine-in so my experience in this regard is not very reliable. But, be forewarned that some previous reviews have criticized the customer service of the staff and called it into question on more than a few occasions. The buffet has a wide variety of options available and they try to mix up the entrees beyond the usual Chicken Tikka Masala, Chicken Curry and Tandoori Chicken. On Fridays, they sometimes serve Fish Masala which is a personal favorite of mine. There are also a wide variety of vegetarian and vegan options as well beyond the salad bar. In fact, if you ever consider converting to a vegetarian diet, Indian cuisine is the way to go. The variety of options consisting of chick peas, cabbage, cauliflower, potatoes, eggplant, okra, lentils and cheese are so expertly prepared with herbs and spices that make any traditional Indian dishes absolutely delicious. If you are new to Indian cuisine you can feel confident in the knowledge that the spice levels are very mild (unless you specifically request a certain level of spiciness). Overall, its a great and affordable experience for any foodie who enjoys fragrant cuisine highlighted by herbs and spices that aren't overbearing. The buffet is all-you-can-eat and the to-go option is very filling. This is my go-to option for anytime I am famished and just want something delicious that always leaves me satisfied. You owe it to yourself to try this out. And the price point will never disappoint. What have you got to lose?
