Picked up dinner at Habibi's Halal Gyro food truck. This truck is a perfect dinner take-out stop. Quick and easy ordering along with great service and a highly satisfying meal. Located on Erie Blvd in the parking lot of Oasis Mediterranean Market, the truck is a can't miss. The bright scrolling display that surrounds the top of the truck let's you know you have found it. The owner has brought his authentic Halal food business all the way from New York City where he runs many NYC style halal food trucks throughout the city. These guys know their menu!!! I ordered the Chicken Plate. Comes with chicken, rice, pita slices, falafel, lettuce, tomato & pickles. The chicken and rice were seasoned perfectly. The chicken was cut finely but was not dry and the flavors really shined. I was asked if I would like "Red Sauce", "White Sauce or both. I chose both. The red sauce had good amount of heat but wasn't overbearing at all. The white sauce complimented and balanced the heat with some light flavors. I enjoyed the lettuce and pickles to the dish. They added a bit of crunch and sweetness. My next visit I will definitely order an extra side of the falafel. While the inside of the falafel had a nice fluffy texture; the outside was fried to a perfect crisp when you bite into it. You can call or use one of many food delivery apps. Have ordered here twice. Unbelievable amount of food--had enough leftovers for the following day. Husband had the chicken shawarma platter and I had the lamb platter. Both platters are excellent. Perfectly seasoned meats, fresh vegetables, nice fluffy pita bread and gorgeous sauces. Split the chicken platter the second time around and still had enough leftover for light lunch the following day. Service is wonderful, attentive and good recommendations. As for ambiance? It's a food truck parked outside a Mediterranean food store. One doesn't go there for the ambience, one goes for the food which is quite excellent! read more

First time trying the food here. The place we normally go was unexpectedly closed, so we went here. I didn't realize it was a food truck, but wow! The food was excellent and the service was friendly and fast. Ordered for the family. Two bowls, lamb and chicken. A lamb gyro and two chicken gyros. The flavour was amazing and the food was definitely fresh. I'd definitely recommend this food truck regardless of where he's parked. The pita was soft and delicious. The service was fast, friendly and my order was accurate. The food was great and cost was fantastic. Habibis food truck catered on the SU hill for about 100 people who only had an hour for lunch. They knocked out orders in about 15 minutes for everyone. That line was deep, but moved quickly and everyone enjoyed it. Mo, Soliman, and his family are the best (they run and organize the events). If you need a food truck for your even I would HIGHLY recommend them! Great for people with dietary restrictions, vegan, vegetarian and GF options available. Portions were perfect. A fellow Yelper suggested this as one of those places in Syracuse you just shouldn't miss, and, oh my, was she right. There are probably as many ways to make a gyro as there are to pronounce it, but the lamb gyro I had was awesome. The lamb was tasty and tender, but it was everything else that made it perfect. It was stuffed full of greens, with some purple cabbage thrown in for good measure, and an occasional tomato (the tomatoes aren't looking that great in the store, so I'm just as happy they didn't go nuts with them), along with the fabulous white sauce. The pita was tasty but not stand out. This was a gyro I'd happily drive a ways to enjoy. The counterperson was hella-friendly, apparently of Egyptian extraction, which may help the true gyro connoisseurs identify the particular type of gyro this was. (I'm not an expert, but I've certainly eaten my weight in gyros all over the States and Europe and beyond, so I at least know what I like.) There are a ton of Mediterranean restaurants in this city, like so many. It's one of my favorite things to eat, but I usually cook it myself so we don't go out for it a whole lot. Today was the day to finally try this place. We were looking for something quick and inexpensive, and didn't have high expectations for our meal. After seeing the food truck and checking out Oasis, along with no online presence outside of ordering apps, it just didn't seem like it'd be a place to remember. Turns out this place is an absolute gem. Not so hidden sitting right on Erie for the world to see, but still, people need to know about this place. The true NYC Halal Guys style gyros are making their way to Syracuse, but there's only a few options I'm aware of so far. The red and white sauces are absolutely integral to whatever item you order - both of them together. Red is spicy, it's similar to taco sauce but it's good enough to eat plain. White is not tzatziki, but it's closer to ranch. The two make a perfect pair and could probably go on anything. I was intrigued to see they had Cheese Steaks. Obviously I had to try that. 80% of cheese steaks here come from the same blocks of pre-shredded frozen Sysco meat and they're the exact same thing. We know they had better meat on hand, but even the high expectations we had for this didn't prepare us. I don't know what kind of cheese they used, but it was fully melted in and might have actually been wiz like on a proper Philly. They must have beef on hand just for their cheese steaks, because it was real, seasoned beef that was cooked to perfection as advertised. We didn't verify that it wasn't lamb, but the lamb on my gyro was very different from the meat on the cheese steak. Most importantly, it's on a pita like a gyro. Depending on the day, I could see calling this my favorite cheese steak in Syracuse. We've specifically been looking for the best Chicken Shawarma for a few months, and have made some great finds. The shawarma plate here was an immediate favorite for both my girlfriend and myself. The rice was so flavorful and fluffy. The chicken was shredded and perfectly tender, and seasoned so well we could have eaten it plain. Combined with the two sauces, it was no question. The shredded pitas on top were the icing on the cake. I still can't believe how good this place was. I ordered a lamb gyro for myself. There was way more meat, peppers and onions than the pita could hold, so I was familiar with the taste long before I started on the gyro itself. Right off the bat, this was some of the best cooked lamb I can remember eating. They've got the meat right inside the truck on a spit, and it's as tender as it can possibly be. Taking the Halal Guys approach, they sauté it with the peppers and onions, and the rest of the flavoring is on the delicious red and white sauces. The flavor here is a lot heavier compared to traditional Greek gyros, where the peppers and onions would be raw, and the flavor would come from cucumbers, tzatziki and feta. To compare it to other gyros in town would be like comparing NY Style pizza to Chicago Style (with no chip on my shoulder pulling me one way or the other). Either way, it's incredibly well made and if you're looking to develop your taste on some of the essentials, you have to come here and try this. We ordered 3 pieces of Falafel and Grape Leaves just to try them. The falafel was right on point. Perfect outer crunch, but absolutely fluffy without any crumble on the inside. Great, flavorful taste. I'd come here just for this. Grape leaves were unlike any others I've had. They seemed incredibly fresh. Usually the rice is firm and you have to chew it. This was completely soft all the way through. The grape leaves had just the right grape leaf taste to set the tone, and they were so tender they didn't catch at all when you bit into them. It's tough to get the leaves right for these, let alone absolutely perfect like theirs were. The taste of the inside is kind of sweet, almost perfumey. At first I thought I didn't like it, but I think it was just the initial shock from how different it was. By the time I had finished the 2nd one, I wanted to get more. I wasn't expecting a list of new favorites to come from this meal. This place has by far exceeded the expectations we had for it. This has easily become one of my new favorite places to get food from. It's so affordable and I actually had enough leftover for a small lunch the next day. I got the mixed lamb and chicken plate, which comes with perfectly seasoned flavorful rice. I added both the red and white sauce. I like my food spicy and thought the red sauce wasn't that spicy at all, but added a nice flavor to everything. I also got the stuffed grape leaves which I thought were solid but nothing mind blowing. Will for sure be coming back here a lot! read more

I have gotten take out from here a few times in the last month. I have been happy each time. I have ordered a few different items and have opinions on them all. I have gotten the lamb platter with yellow rice. It's above average and tasty. There is this white sauce they put on that's just called while sauce. I don't know what the heck it is but I like it. The lamb is delicious and the yellow rice is great. I have also gotten the lamb and chicken combo. Both meats are really good and seasoned well. I also have ordered their homemade hummus. It is phenomenal and up there with some up the best I have had. The only item I would avoid are the grape leaves. They are below average. They aren't terrible but not worth getting.
